  • Air Fryer Steak Melt Grilled Cheese

Made with steak slices, this delicious air fryer steak sandwich is prepared in minutes, with just a few simple ingredients. I love to cook juicy ribeye steak, filet mignon or steak bites in the air fryer, especially around the holidays. The next day, or whenever you have some steak left, cut it into thin strips and pop it on top of a bun, add crispy bacon and your favorite veggies and you’ve got the perfect comfort food combination – rich, flavorful steak with melted cheese, sauteed onions and peppers and crunchy toppings.

Selecting The Right Cut Of Steak

The type of cut of steak that you choose will have a major impact on how well it cooks in the air fryer. You should stick with cuts that are relatively thin, such as sirloin, flank steak, or skirt steak. Thicker cuts may not cook evenly because they take longer to heat through to the center.

The closer to room temperature the steak is when it goes into the air fryer, the better.

That means that if youre pulling steaks out of the refrigerator right before putting them into your air fryer, they may not cook as evenly as they would starting at room temperature.

This recipe is incredibly easy to get perfect steak with a crunchy crust and juicy, tender center but there are a few things you can do to make sure your steaks are a knockout every time.

Cook hot and fast. For the crunchy crust and rich meaty flavor you get from a steakhouse, you want to cook steak as hot and fast as possible, so use the highest heat you can in your air fryer.

Let come to room temperature. Steaks that have come to room temperature before cooking can crisp on the outside faster, and allows the fat to render more. Simply let steaks rest on the counter for 20-30 minutes before cooking while you prep the rest of your meal.

Pat steaks dry. Steaks with excess moisture or water will not crisp and risk boiling instead of broiling giving you tougher, chewier, gray meat. Simply pat dry with a paper towel to make sure your steaks are completely dry before rubbing with oil.

Add oil. Before air frying, we will be adding a little oil to help seasoning stick and crisp the outside of the steak aa bit more when air frying. Think of this as just a drizzle for your steaks they should just glisten from the oil, they dont need to be soaked in oil.

Season well. Before air frying, be sure to season steak well. Use your favorite steak seasoning, herbs de provence, Montreal steak seasoning, or rub.

Let steak rest. All steaks need to rest for 5 minutes after cooking before serving and slicing to let juices set and prevent steak from drying out.)

As always, lets start by gathering our ingredients. In this case our ingredients are quite simple. Steak, a little bit of avocado oil and salt and pepper. We actually order a half of a cow from a local farm in upstate New York for farm raised beef. But sometimes, I want a small steak for myself when the rest of the family is not in the move, or we dont pull big hug of beef from the freezer. These single filet mignons are perfect! You can also order them online here: grass fed filet migon.

Each steak is vacuum sealed, and the perfect single serving of 5oz.

I love that the beef is also grass fed and finished, no added hormones or antibiotics.

Start by removing the steak from the package and lightly coat with a little avocado oil. This is my favorite avocado oil spray. It doesnt have any propellants. You can get it online here: avocado oil.

Next, season with salt and pepper to taste. I am not a big salt and pepper person, but I do like a tiny sprinkle of salt.

  • When done air frying steak, remove basket from air fryer and place steaks on a cutting board or cookie sheet to let steak rest for 10-15 minutes prior to serving. This allows the meats juices to redistribute and steak to remain tender inside.

Is Steak Better On The Stove Or Air Fryer

There are pros and cons to cooking steak on the stove or in an air fryer. The main advantage of cooking steak on the stove is that you can control the heat and ensure that it is cooked to your desired level of doneness.

Additionally, using a stovetop oven also offers some advantages: You can cook more meats at once, which allows for more consistent results however, stovetop ovens are not as efficient at cooking meat as an air fryer.

Air frying is all the rage these days, and for good reason. These convenient countertop devices heat up quickly, blasting food with fast-moving hot air from all angles. This convection-style heat flow gets lots of foods super crispy without using nearly the amount of oil that other cooking techniques like frying, sautéing, or even old-school roasting require. Take, for example, steak.
