|4 teaspoons McCormicks Montreal Brand steak seasoning|
|2 lbs sirloin or 2 lbs strip steaks|
- Combine olive oil, soy sauce and Montreal Steak Seasoning in a glass dish or plastic bag.
- Add steak and cover dish or seal bag.
- Refrigerate 30 minutes or longer for extra flavor.
- Remove steak from marinade and discard marinade.
- Grill or broil to desired doneness.

Chili Rub Steak Seasoning
Add spicy, smoky flavor to your steak with a simple chili rub. Simply combine a quarter cup of smoked paprika with two tablespoons chili powder and a tablespoon each kosher salt and ground cumin. If you like it spicy, feel free to add cayenne to the mix.
Rub the mixture over the steak and add a tablespoon or so of canola oil to help it stick. Keep an eye out for the mistakes that everyone makes when learning to cook steak.
Kalbi Korean Steak Seasoning
Give your steak some Asian-spiced flair by creating a kalbi steak marinade. In a large bowl, combine a quarter cup soy sauce with three tablespoons white sugar, two tablespoons sesame oil, one tablespoon each mincedgarlic and sesame seeds, two chopped green onions and a teaspoon groundblack pepper. Marinate the steaks in the refrigerator for two hours before cooking.

Alexs Montreal Steak Spice Roast Chicken
Reader Bruce Kearney put us on to this recipe of his departed friend Alex, and it certainly qualifies as one of MTLs best. This chicken is roasted over indirect heat, charcoal preferably. After you clean your chicken, prep it by covering it in yellow mustard and Montreal steak spice, then roast it. This recipe works just as well in an oven and with chicken pieces too. Thanks Bruce!

Its still open, and its about a 20 minute drive from downtown Montreal. But this new Crescent location is definitely a whole lot more convenient for anyone who lives on-island, obviously.
If youve ever been to the Hooters in Greenfield Park, then you probably have a pretty good idea of what the one on Crescent Street will be like.
So, Montrealers who also happen to love Hooters, worry not. Very soon, therell be a restaurant right here in the city where you can get your wings, beer, and Hooters fix.

It worked perfectly! There are quite a few recipes on the Internet for Montreal Steak Seasoning, so I sort of combined them to suit my tastes.
I do love the coarse texture of the store-bought version, so rather than using all ground spices, I opted for things like peppercorns, mustard seed, and coriander seed.
If you have a mortar and pestle or spice mill, thats great! If not, you can put your spices in a zip top bag and crush them with a heavy rolling pin, or the edge of a cast iron skillet. Thats what I did, and it worked great.
Now that I know how easy it is to make my favorite steak seasoning at home, I might just keep doing it this way. And this would be a great gift for the grilling aficionado in your life!
And heres a little secret my brother recently shared with me. This stuff is amazing on hash browns! I dont know why I never thought of it myself, but trust me, youve got to give it a try!

Directions For Homemade Montreal Steak Seasoning
Creating an incredible jar of steak seasoning doesnt get much easier than this.
Place whole peppercorns in a small saute pan. Heat on medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes until toasted but not burnt. Mix often to prevent burning. Pour warm peppercorns into a high powered blender and blend for 5-10 seconds until broken apart.
Combine the peppercorns with all the other seasonings listed above. Mix well in a bowl. Then, using a funnel pour into a mason jar. Label the jar, and store in a dark dry place for up to 3 months. Use as directed in recipes or pat onto steaks before grilling.
When Should I Season My Steak
Moral of the story: If youve got the time, salt your meat for at least 40 minutes and up to overnight before cooking. If you havent got 40 minutes, its better to season immediately before cooking. Cooking the steak anywhere between three and 40 minutes after salting is the worst way to do it.

McCormick grill mates Montreal steak seasoning is the secret ingredient in my latest grilled meal.
The seasoning is a combination of coarsely ground peppers, garlic and spices for bolder tasting steaks and burgers.
I combined the spice rub with red pepper flakes for some heat and brown sugar to give it a sweet hint of flavor, too.
It made a super tasting meal and both hubby and I loved it.
How To Make Montreal Steak Seasoning
This recipe is the classic version of Montreal Steak Seasoning, but by all means you can make adjustments. For example, if you dont have coarse ground pepper handy, you could choose ground. If you dont have sea salt, try kosher salt instead.
The important part is that if you want a delicious flavor, use high end spices. My two favorites are Penzeys Spices and Dean & Deluca
Beyond that, making this recipe is just about evenly blending: sea salt, coarse black pepper, whole coriander, dill seeds and crushed red pepper flakes. Then blending them with the following ground spices: paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and a touch of cayenne pepper

Gluten Free Living 2016
Montreal Steak Stew is a fantastic way to use up leftover steak! Its filled with leeks, mushrooms, onion, celery, carrots, bell peppers, zucchini and yellow squash, potatoes and tomatoes. I seasoned it with marjoram, thyme and a seasoning blend of lavender, sage & rosemary. The steaks already had Montreal Steak seasoning on them for flavor, and I added Worcestershire and liquid smoke to amp up the flavors even more. I used a gluten free flour to thicken the stew, but regular flour can be used if youre not gluten intolerant. It was one tasty stew.

How Much Steak Seasoning To Use
The amount of steak seasoning per steak will depend on the size of your steaks and the seasoning you are using. You can always eyeball it and just season generously, but I often measure to ensure I truly have the right amount the ideal amount is often more than you think you need!
The most critical component in seasoning is salt, so I always determine the amount to use based on how much salt is in the recipe.
TIP: Julia Childs rule of thumb is 1 teaspoon of salt per pound of meat. So for steak seasoning, youd use the amount of seasoning needed to include that much salt.
Of course, this Montreal steak seasoning recipe has other ingredients besides salt, so the rule of thumb for this one is 1/2 tablespoon Montreal steak seasoning per 8-oz steak.
The photo below shows this seasoning on a beef tenderloin. Notice that there is a lot of seasoning on it this is what you want for maximum flavor!
