How To Tenderize Flank Steak
Flank steak is a lean cut, so it doesnt have the fat content that other steaks have. Fat breaks down during the cooking process to naturally tenderize the steak. When your beef lacks fat, youll need to do a bit of manual tenderizing.
For flank steak, two methods work really well. The quickest method is to use a meat tenderizer. To do this, place the steak in a plastic food storage back. Seal it tightly, removing all air from the bag first. Place the bag on a cutting board so that the steak lies flat. Use the meat tenderizer to pound the steak, ensuring that you work the tool evenly across the meat.
Your second option is to make a marinade. This takes longer, as you should allow the meat to marinate for at least a few hours, and preferably overnight. To make a marinade, youll need salt, oil, an acid , brown sugar, and your favorite mix of steak spices. Black pepper, garlic, and thyme are popular choices.
Mix the ingredients well, place them in a food storage bag with the steak, and allow it to marinate for several hours before cooking.
How Does The Food Stamp Program Works
Also known as SNAP benefit, the Food Stamps Program benefits is a federally funded program run by the US Department of Agriculture but administered at the state level that offers nutrition assistance to millions of eligible, low-income individuals and families.
However, if you want to sign up for food stamps, you have to apply through the agency in your state that runs the program.
There are strict eligibility criteria and requirements that you have to meet to be approved for SNAP benefits, including income requirements.

What Makes One Type Of Steak Better Than Another
We all have our own idea of what makes a steak good.
The same applies when we talk about better steaks. For this article, were going to assume that the better steak is super flavorful yet tender. Were also going to assume that cost is not a factor.
Filet Mignon comes from the tenderloin portion of the cow.
It contains very little fat and comes from a non-weight-bearing muscle. This, along with it not containing much connective tissue makes it the most tender cut of meat. However, the lack of fat does not make it the most flavorful.
This is why it is usually served with some sort of sauce or wrapped in bacon.
Strip steaks, like the NY Strip, is a good balance of flavor and tenderness. Its got some fat in it, making it more flavorful than the filet mignon. Its also a well-worked muscle, making it less tender.
The Ribeye is the most flavorful cust of meat. Look for high marbling. This is the white swirling youll see in the steak. The more marbling, the more flavorful the steak. If cooked with care, it can also be very tender.

How To Cook It Steak On A Grill Or Smoker
The Porterhouse should be cooked at super high heat on an open grill. With that being said, it is a big, expensive piece of meat, so it needs care and attention.
The best way to achieve this is to use a multi-zone method. Once the grill is up and running follow our simple guide for one of the best Porterhouse steaks you will ever taste:
- Remove the steaks from the fridge at least an hour before you want to cook them. They are thick and will need that time to get to room temp.
- Make sure your grill grate is clean. Give it a good brush to remove old food debris and then lubricate it with a folded paper towel dipped in oil.
- Season with plenty of salt and pepper. This adds flavor and helps ensure a great crust.
- Now place on the grill at the hottest end and sear for approximately 2 ½ minutes. Youre aiming for a deep brown color, with a small amount of black char to the edges.
- Next, move the steak to the center zone, turning it through 90 degrees to achieve that eye candy criss-cross effect. Cook for a further 2 ½ minutes or until you see beads of blood and juice forming on top of the meat.
- Now flip and return to the hot zone. Cook for 2 ½ minutes and return to the center zone again, with the twist, to get the grill marks we want. If you get flare-ups, move the meat to the safety zone until the flames die down.
Remember: the steaks rise another 5 degrees once removed from the grill.

Look For The Right Cut Of Steak
This is a highly subjective topic, but its generally agreed that the tenderloin is the most tender cut of steak. That being said, its not my personal favorite. Because its super lean, it can dry out if youre not careful!
When youre going all out, we recommend picking up a Prime ribeye or New York strip. Theyre the easiest steaks to cook because of their high levels of marbling, which build in a lot of forgiveness in case you accidentally overcook them.
Any 1-inch-thick steaks cut from the short loin or sirloin are also fantastic choices for the grill when youre on a budget. Thinner steaks from the plate tend to be tough but have a beefy flavor, and they grill up just fine if you marinate them.
I wouldnt recommend grilling steaks that come from the chuck, briske, or round. These tougher cuts are inexpensive, but theyre better suited for low-and-slow cooking methods.

Next Look At The Color Of The Meat
Grass-fed meat usually has a deeper red color with the marbling having a yellowish hue.
Grain-fed meat will be less red with a milky white or creamy colored marbling.
Be sure to make sure there are no brown spots on the surface of the steak, either.
Color is also a marker for the freshness of the meat as well at its age. Fresh meat will be a lighter shade of red after it is cut. Meat that has been in cold storage for a long time will be a darker shade of red.
Younger meat will be brighter colored than older meat. Darker meat comes from an older animal, meaning it will likely be a tougher cut.
