Steak dinners are always something were looking forward to in our house. My husband- and even some of my kiddos- work hard trying to get their steak cooking down to an art form. One of the things theyre always experimenting with is the seasoning: there are all sorts of opinions out there on the best way to season a steak. Some folks will stick with salt and pepper, but others will swear by their own secret and special spice blends and steak rubs. Recently, we think weve found one of our new favorites: Montreal Steak Seasoning!
This Montreal Steak Seasoning makes for a great default or go-to steak spice or burger seasoning. Everything is perfectly balanced and nothing is going to overpower your meat. It all works together to enhance the flavors of your steak or beef while also adding just a bit of heat with some peppers and warmer spices. The best part about making this Homemade Montreal Steak Spice is that you can tweak and change it to your liking. You can use coarser ground spices and some seeds to get the same texture of the McCormicks Montreal Steak Seasoning or mix up a powder. Youll love this stuff- dont be surprised when you find yourself adding it to all your steaks!

You dont technically have to use a blender for this recipe. Some people recommend a mortar and pestle instead. Ive found, however, that an electric blender speeds up the process. Great for those of us who may not have a lot of time or energy, right?

Heres a few extra tricks to make your seasoning just a little more special.
- Yield: Recipe makes roughly 1 cup.
- Strong Smell: Beware that once you toast and blend the peppercorns its going to give an intense smell of pepper. Try to keep your face away from the blender when you initially open the lid. Trust me, youll be sneezing for a minute straight!
- Label & Storage: I find that I like to store my seasoning in a glass jar. I also use paper washi tape to write on using a permanent marker, and stick on the mason jar. It is a removable tape that wont be forever stuck on your jar making it ideal for spice mixes that are store in glass jars.
- Additions: Theres no one true Montreal steak seasoning recipe. Everyone puts their own twist on it, it seems! If youre looking for inspiration, try adding
