How To Use It

Grilled Buttery Seasoning Steak~Easy Cooking

Speaking of using up all the seasoning mix, here are 9 of my favorite ways to use it at home!

  • As a steak rub. This one is pretty obvious, but it really is the best way to season a steak! Simply use it as a dry rub by rubbing it on the outside of a steak before grilling, pan-searing or oven-roasting it.
  • Try it on these Grilled Steak Skewers or in this recipe for Sous Vide Tri Tip! And dont miss my post on How To Grill Steak Perfectly Every Time! Heres a hint, it involves this steak seasoning!
  • To season chicken. Just because it has steak in the name, doesnt mean its not delicious on other proteins!

    • 1tablespoondried minced onion
    • 1tablespoonred pepper flakes

    When To Salt The Steak

When to apply the salt is a common seasoning question. Some chefs like to salt a steak well in advance of cooking, even up to 24 hours in advance. Others say salting it right before cooking is best. The main drawback of seasoning in advance is that salt applied to the outside of something tends to pull water from the center of it onto the surface. If the thing in question happens to be a steak, it will necessarily be less juicy. In fact, any steak you hold in the fridge, salt or no salt, is going to lose juices overnight.

Another drawback is that it extends your prep time. Seasoning your steaks 24 hours in advance of cooking, means you’re in the kitchen 24 hours before dinner working with the steaks. You also need to make room in your fridge for these steaks for an additional 24 hours.

    Texas Roadhouse Steak Rub

This seasoning is a little complicated, and you need more ingredients than the others on the list.

You will need two teaspoons each of kosher salt and brown sugar for one serving.

Also, you will need to mix half a teaspoon of paprika, paprika, and chili powder with a quarter teaspoon each of cornstarch, onion powder, and turmeric to make the mix.

When using this seasoning mix, you will need a ziplock bag to combine all the flavors into the steaks.

Spice Rub For Grilled Ribeye Steak

I like to use a spice rub for grilled steak, more than a marinade. I find a spice rub seems to seal in the flavors nicely. Occasionally I will marinate a steak, but tend to reserve marinating for tougher cuts of beef that benefit from a tenderizing marinade. For instance, I will marinate beef overnight when making something like this Tuscan Beef Stew.

How to make a spice rub? Its so easy, theres no need to buy those pre-made rub mixes at the store. When you make your own spice rub, you know exactly what is in it. Find a basic combination you like and you can experiment with variations on it.

My basic go to rub is the cumin garlic blend we use in this recipe. All you do is combine equal parts garlic powder, cumin and salt in a small bowl, then rub it into the meat. I let the steak absorb the rub for about ten minutes, then you are ready for some big flavored grilling!

Our ten year old would tell you he doesnt like spicy food, but he loves any meat I grill with this garlic cumin rub. So its the perfect combo for a family with discerning young palatesenough flavor for the grownups, without overwhelming the kids!

I like to make various sauces to serve with steak, with mushrooms and onions featuring frequently. Check out this Ribeye with Portobello Mushrooms, for instance. But todays recipe shows you dont need to add a sauce with a good quality ribeye steak made with our simple spice rub.

If you love Mexican cuisine and you want that amazing taco-flavored meat in your steak, then this is the perfect seasoning for you.

Combine two tablespoons of chili powder, one tablespoon of ground ancho chile, and a teaspoon each of ground cumin, oregano, kosher salt, ground black pepper, and crushed garlic.

After covering the steak with the dry seasonings, you can even help the flavors get into the meat by adding a little bit of lime juice and accentuating the flavors with a quarter cup of minced cilantro.

    What Is A Ribeye Steak

A ribeye, or rib eye as it is sometimes written, comes from the rib section of a cow, usually between ribs six and twelve.

What makes this cut so desirable is that it comes from a part of the upper rib cage that isnât used very much, producing a tender and flavorful cut with lots of marbling.

Ribeye is somewhat of an outlier among cuts of beef typically, the more tender a cut is the less flavorful it is. Ribeyes buck this trend by being among the most flavorful and tender cuts you can get from a cow.

When To Put Dry Rub On A Steak

You do not need to wait for the spices to get into the meat before grilling or cooking it.

The heat will help the seasonings get into the meat with the help of the juices from the meat.

You can let the meat rest for about 5 minutes after putting the seasoning and before grilling or cooking it, but it is unnecessary.

You can apply the rub right before you put the meat on the grill.

    How To Season Steak

The best way to season a steak depends a little bit on the type of steak you are grilling, as well as the level of seasoning you like on your meat. With a thicker cut of steak you can be pretty liberal with this seasoning and thoroughly cover the surface of the meat. That way, the seasoning really carries through each bite. In the video below, I was cooking a fairly thick tri-tip and you can see how much seasoning I used to cover the outside of the meat.

Remember, you can always add seasoning easier than you can remove it. Start with a light hand and dont sprinkle too heavily at the beginning. I also recommend pressing the seasoning into the meat with the palm of your hand. This helps the seasoning adhere and you dont lose as much when youre moving it around on the grill. Avoid rubbing the seasoning in, as it tends to clump up and youll have strong bites of pepper or herbs instead of it being evenly distributed.

    How Do I Season Pork

You can season pork with a brine or a marinade. If youre ready to cook now, you can sprinkle your favorite flavors on the uncooked pork and give it a little rub so the seasonings really stick to the meat. If youve already cooked your pork, just sprinkle a small amount of your seasonings over the cooked pork before you serve it.

I typically either use McCormicks spices or Penzeys Spices. I like McCormicks because they are easy to find in my grocery store, are decently priced, and the flavors are consistent. If Im making something special, or feeling like treating myself, Ill go with Penzeys Spices. I do need to plan ahead for Penzeys since there isnt local store and I need to order online. They do tend to be more expensive, but I enjoy using them for special occasions.

Steaks are versatile meat that can be used in various kinds of recipes. There are certain factors to consider before purchasing the meat.

The right kind of steak for kabobs is a thin strip of beef that is tender enough to slice into tiny cubes. A good cut for this purpose is flank steak, but other cuts can also work. It should be about 2 inches wide and 1 inch thick.

Choosing the right kind of steak is important if you want your kabobs to be flavorful and tender.

    How To Season Generously

    WORLDS BEST STEAK SEASONING

Steak is often pretty thick. An ideal size that follows guidelines for selecting the best steak is about an inch and a half thick. The salt is only seasoning the surface, which means a significant portion of the meat has no salt on it at all. That’s why it’s imperative to salt generously. If you were only eating the surface of the steak, it might be too salty. But you aren’t. You’re eating the whole steak. The seasoning on the surface has to be enough to properly season each bite.
