Aside from the grilling tips weve already discussed, there are other things you can do to ensure your steak is cooked to perfection and packed with flavor.

  • Try using a salt dry brining process. When you use salt, it draws the moisture out of the meat. The juice will dissolve the salt before its reabsorbed back into the steak. This can result in a steak thats packed with juice and flavor.
  • Always use a thermometer. Always check the doneness of your steak using a thermometer. This will prevent over or undercooked meat based on your taste preference.
  • To rest or not to rest? Some grillers swear by resting a steak before serving. This is done to allow the juices inside the steak to settle. Not every griller agrees that this method works, but you can give this technique a shot and decide for yourself. To rest a steak, youll remove it from the grill and wrap it tightly in foil for a period of ten to fifteen minutes.

How To Cook Steak In The Oven

Broiling steak in the oven gives you grill-like results in the kitchen. Broiling is like grilling turned on its head, with the high heat coming from above the meat instead of below it. Both grilling and broiling are fast and easy. Here’s how to broil in 5 easy steps.

    1. Before turning on the broiler, remove thawed steaks from the refrigerator and let them rest at room temperature for about 15 minutes. Then pat the steaks dry with paper towels and season the meat as you like.

    2. Trim excess fat from the meat to avoid grease flare-ups. Make a few vertical cuts along the edges of the steak to keep it from curling under the broiler.

    3. Situate the top oven rack to just below the broiler coils. Turn the oven on to broil. Allow it to preheat for 5 minutes.

    4. Place steaks on a broiling panor if you don’t have a broiling pan, make one: line a shallow baking sheet with foil and set a flat rack on top of it. But do not use a glass baking pan under the broiler it will break under the high heat.

    5. Slide the steaks under the glowing coils. The distance between the top of the steaks and the heat source should be between 3 and 5 inches. If the top rack position is too close to the coils, lower the rack to the second position.

    7. If the outside is nicely crusted but the inside is too raw for your liking, turn the oven temperature down to 350 degrees F and roast until done. Remove and let the meat rest for 5 to 10 minutes.

How To Test Your Steak For Doneness

For the most accurate results, use a meat thermometer to test for doneness:

    • Medium — 140 degrees F
    • Medium Well — 150 degrees F

1.) I would always take my steaks out of my refrigerator and allow them to sit for about 20 minutes before the actual grilling process. I find that when you do this, steaks would cook faster and more evenly. Whats more? This allowance will also make and hold your seasoning a little better.

2.) Before putting them on your grill, rub some salt and pepper on your steaks. Do this for about 15 minutes to allow the salt to dissolve and flavor the meat properly. For cuts of meats that are of lower quality, simply use your favorite sauce. On the other hand, salt and pepper would do for higher-grade cuts of meat.

3.) Your charcoal should be set within a hot zone for direct heating. For indirect heating, the charcoal should be situated in a medium heat zone. Both of these should be used for cooking your steak.

4.) The steaks should be put in a hot zone. Let them sit there for about two minutes. After that, you can give them a quarter turn. After another two minutes, you can flip the meats over, but it is crucial that you dont place them in the same spot as this area is considerably slightly cooler now.

In the new spot, let them sit for two minutes. Perform a quarter turn and then place them in the indirect heating zone but not directly over the coals. In this way, youll give them a crispy coat along with that highly-sought sear marks!

What Are The Best Types Of Steak For Grilling

Beef was made for fire and youll find many types of steaks are perfect for grilling. These are some of my favorites.

  • Ribeye this is my favorite steak to cook and to eat. This beauty offers a combination of tenderness and big, beefy flavor that you wont often find in other cuts of beef. I also prefer the bone in for appearance and for added flavor.
  • Porterhouse next on the list is really the King of Steaks in my book and only my recent love of ribeyes has moved it down the list. The Porterhouse steak is the best of both worlds including a perfect balance of the top loin with the tenderloin.
  • T-Bone this steak is similar to a porterhouse but is cut from closer to the rump. This makes the top loin side more tender but the tenderloin side is on the smaller side or non-existent.
  • Strip Steak aka New York Strip, Kansas City Strip or Strip loin. This steak can be as flavorful as a ribeye but a lot depends on the tenderness of this steak and can often disappoint.
  • Tenderloin although the tenderloin is the most tender piece of beef its also leaner which means its lacking in fat. And when it comes to steaks remember that fat adds flavor. This is not my favorite steak for grilling and can turn into a very expensive mistake.
  • Other options include Skirt, Flank, Flat Iron and Top Sirloin.

Ask your store butcher if youre not sure, otherwise what should be an epic culinary event will turn into a disaster.
