Shark Fin Between $200

A delicious soup that is made from the fins of the shark can go for up to $100 for just one bowl. The dish is considered to be a delicacy and is served for high prices in the higher end restaurants in Hong Kong. The soup uses the cartilage that is found within the fins and although it does not directly use the meat of the shark, it is still a consumable that is made from the ferocious ocean creatures.

How To Cook The Shark Steaks

Yank the shark out of the fridge.

Toss them on a board and sprinkle each steak evenly with about a tablespoon of Cajun spice on one side. Give each side a good rub to help the spice stick.

Set aside for a sec while you preheat your pan.

Put the olive oil and 2 tablespoons of butter in a large, nonstick pan and set it on the stove over medium-high heat.

Toss in the chopped garlic.

Set the fish in the pan, spice-side down.

Sprinkle each naked side with about a tablespoon of Cajun spice.

Cook over medium-high heat for about 10-12 minutes, or until well browned on the bottom and cooked about halfway through.

Evolving Into Ecommerce With Ups

16-year-old reels in 450 pound Mako shark in NW Florida

For over thirty years, Anderson Seafoods has been delivering fresh fish to local markets and restaurants. Over time, and as the company grew, Anderson Seafoods began expanding and delivering to larger national markets through eCommerce. And the company can attribute a lot of this success to UPS. Owner and Founder, Dennis Anderson, claims, UPS helped us build a new arm to our company. No question about it.

As Anderson Seafoods embraced eCommerce, the team knew they had to find a way to continue to deliver quality products and goods but at a quicker pace, and without sacrificing quality to customers. Before UPS came along, they had no method to tackle this challenge or to guarantee their products.

Then, Steven Tick, Account Executive at UPS heard of what Anderson Seafoods was trying to do. With Stevens background and expertise in eCommerce, he reached out to Anderson Seafoods with a lot of great ideas and solutions that changed the face of Anderson Seafoods and gave our customers the ability to buy fresh seafood online

One of the biggest challenges was to devise a refrigerated package that would stay cold for at least 48 hours until it reached the customer in quality shape. Steven and his team conducted a number of tests to ensure the quality and durability of the refrigerated package and its containments.

What Does Shark Meat Taste Like

As far as texture and taste, I think shark meat tastes a lot like Swordfish. Its firm and has an almost sweet taste to it if prepared right.

Sometimes when eating Blacktip, I swear it almost taste like lobster.

With that being said, Ive heard that if you fry your shark, it can sometimes taste a little more like chicken or even alligator.

Not sure about that, since I rarely fry any fish that I catch!

As long as you prepare your shark meat right, it should taste good whatever way you decide to cook it! I mean, you really cant go wrong with something tasting like Swordfish, lobster, gator or chicken can you?

Best Way To Cook Shark Meat

One of the things that I like most about shark meat is that there are numerous ways to prepare it. Because of the firmness of the meat, it does extremely well on the grill, as well as blackened on the stove, or broiled in a pan of butter. Heck, you can even deep fry it like catfish if you want to.

Is Shark Meat Tasty

Giant Mako Shark

Depending on who is doing the dining, shark meat tastes like chicken or roadkill. Its meaty and mild but has to be soaked well before its eaten because sharks urinate through their skin. However, if fishermen bring in the sharks as filets, Grills will cook them as a $5 sandwich or $10 dinner entree.

What Is Shark Finning

Shark fins are popular in some Asian cultures, especially in Chinese cuisine, where they are typically prepared as the main ingredient in shark fin soup. While it is legal in the United States to consume shark meat, that is not the case for shark fins. The fins are the most valuable part of the shark, and unlike the sharks themselves, the fins don’t occupy much freezer space, very limited on fishing vessels, so the usual practice is to catch a shark, cut the fins off its body while it’s still alive, and then dump the finless animal back into the water. The animals, unable to swim, sink and drown, unable to move and get oxygen through their gills, or bleed to death.

Besides cruel and inhumane, the practice of shark finning is responsible for as many as 100 million shark deaths per year, which has threatened a number of shark species with endangerment.

Eating Shark In The Us: Everything You Need To Know

Whether youre a recreational angler or a culinary enthusiast, you might be wondering about shark meat and whether its safe to eat, how to prepare it, and even if its consumption is legal. Though it is far from the most popular seafood, there is a growing market for shark meat in the United States. This meat is prepared and served in many ways and under various names. Species such as mako, thresher, and blacktip are among those that are fished for their meat.

Alternate names for shark meat include flake, dogfish, grayfish, and whitefish. Imitation crab and fish and chips are sometimes made from shark meat as well.

One misconception about shark meat is that it is illegal. Shark meat is, in fact, quite legal in the United States. What is illegal, however, is the practice of finningor cutting the fins off the animals and throwing it back in the water to die.

How Thick Is Your Shark Steak A Quick Note On Timing

Can You Eat Shark Meat? (Everything You Wanted To Know!)

How long you need to cook the steak on each side will depend on how thick your fish is.

Just keep a good eye on it. And turn the heat down so that your garlic doesnt scorch.

After about 10-12 minutes, flip the shark steaks over.

Cook for about another 10-12 minutes on that side, until the fish is browned on the bottom and cooked through the middle.

If you dont cook fish often, cut a little nick in the middle and take a peek inside.

If its opaque through and through, its done.

If its still pink or translucent, it needs to cook longer.

When the fish is just about done, add the spiced rum and last tablespoon of butter to the pan.

Whack the lime in two and squeeze both halves into the pan. Sprinkle with lime zest.

The spiced rum / butter / lime juice shebang will help deglaze the pan and turns all those juices and browned bits into a gloriously tangy, caramelized sauce.

Bleed Clean And Put On Ice

This is why its so important to bleed and clean a shark that you intend on eating as soon as you reel it in. Keep in mind that if youre on a boat, by law you are not supposed to clean your catch until you get back to the boat ramp.

However, its perfectly okay to gut it out and sever part of its tail in order for it to bleed out. Once you do this, toss it in the cooler on ice until you are able to finish cleaning it.
