Does One Have Better Customer Support

How to Grill a Prime Rib Roast

From our research, the customer service support for both of these mail order steak product companies may be way above average. They both have received an A+ rating from the BBB.

They both offer a satisfaction guarantee more than anything else, so if anything is not to your liking, you can call them for a refund or exchange. We found it slightly more difficult to get a hold of a customer rep at Omaha Steaks when we sent a message.

Prime Rib & Ribeye Steak

Prime rib and rib eye look pretty much the same at first sight. They are soft, juicy and both taste delicious. This is because they come from the same part of beef the rib primal.

The rib part is the muscle section, running along the backbone and primarily serves as the spine support. A cow has 13 ribs on each side, and ribs 6-12 are called the rib primal. The name rib primal doesn’t indicate the quality of the meat but the place from which it is taken.

Rib primal is very rich in meat and fats. The muscles in rib primal are not used much during the animal’s life, so these are well-marbled, tenderest, and most desirable cuts.

Even though ribeye and prime rib are the same part of the meat, there are few differences between these two cuts of meat.

How To Grill Prime Rib Roast

Step 1: Rinse your roast under cold water. Pat dry with paper towels and place roast on wire cooling rack. Salt all sides of the roast with coarse sea salt and place in the refrigerator for 3 days.

TIP: Place a plate under your roast in case it drips while drying.

Step 2: Preheat your grill to 225235 degrees.

Step 3: While the grill is preheating, prepare your prime rib by applying a light coat of olive oil over the entire roast. I use this spray bottle for olive oil but use what you have.

Step 4: In a mixing bowl, whisk together all ingredients for the beef rub. Apply liberally over the entire roast. On top of the beef rub, sprinkle chopped fresh rosemary. Allow roast to sit on the counter and come up towards room temperature while your grill preheats.

Step 5: Insert a reliable meat thermometer in the roast, place roast on grill over indirect heat, as far from the heat source as possible. Be sure to place the roast with the bones facing the heat source. I cant stress enough the importance of using a reliable meat thermometer, it can be the difference between perfection and disaster with an expensive cut of meat. Dont ask me how I know.

Step 6: When the internal temperature reaches 122 degrees , remove the roast from the grill and set aside. Increase the direct-heat zone of your grill to extra-high.

Step 7: Place the roast directly over high heat for a total of 5 minutes, turning often so that all sides get a nice crust built up.

How To Cook Prime Rib In The Oven

The best prime rib is crisp on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. Our ideal cooking method is the reverse sear, which is done entirely in the oven. For a full recipe, check out Food Network Kitchens recipe The Best Prime Rib, but heres an overview. For maximum flavor, we suggest seasoning the prime rib in advance and letting it rest in the refrigerator overnight. Then, instead of searing the meat at the beginning, youll cook the roast low and slow: place it fat-side up on a rack set in a roasting pan and roast it at 350 degrees F until the center of the meat reaches 120 degrees F. For an eight-pound standing rib roast, this will take about four hours. The low heat dries the surface which allows the high heat to crisp it up nicely. Remove the rib roast from the oven and let it sit for about one hour . Then right before serving, crank up the oven to 500 degrees F and bake that rib roast until the fatty skin turns golden brown. Rest for thirty minutes and serve!

What Is Prime Rib

Dijon Herb Prime Rib with Garlic Butter Mushrooms

Prime rib is a cut of beef that comes from the central part of the rib section. It can include from two to seven ribs.

This is a very quality steak cut and one of the most wanted and most flavorful beefs parts, because of the heavy marbling. Prime rib as a cut is very juicy, covered with a fatty cap , which gives it a full beef taste.

Prime rib cut comes with the bones, and it is usually called a standing rib roast. That is because of how it’s cooked – standing on the bones and meat not touching the cooking dish.

The prime rib roast is a big and massive cut in general, so it is good to cook it for a group of people. It is also considered festive meat. Prime ribs are often at the dinner table’s central place for special occasions and holidays such as Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Whats Better Boneless Prime Rib Or Bone

There isnt a textbook right or wrong answer to that question. This is more of a personal choice and there are pros and cons to both. Whats far more important is the quality of the beef. For me, that starts with either the boneless or bone-in roasts from Omaha Steaks. Ive been using their products since well before they became a sponsor and Im never disappointed.

Back to the question about boneless or bone-in. For a better understanding of the differences between the two, see my blog here. As Ive said many times, dont get caught up in the commonly handed-down misconception that the bone adds flavor to an entire piece of meat. Its simply not true and my blog about this will explain it in greater detail. I highly encourage you to give it a read.

Having said that, there are other reasons to choose a bone-in prime rib roast. First, the bones act as a bit of a heat barrier when grilling the prime rib. This helps prevent an oblong-shaped piece of meat from cooking unevenly. Second, that meat right around the bones is excellent, some of the best on the roast, even. Finally, these bones make for excellent beef stock.

Much like my seafood stock, I save beef bones and freeze them until I have enough to make homemade beef stock that I use for a number of things, like the au jus for this grilled prime rib roast.

Comparing The Menu Options

Shop Staples for Omaha Steaks 8 Filet of Prime Rib (8 Oz.)

Both companies have similar nice classic beef and quality meats, such as New York strip steaks, filet mignon, ribeyes, top sirloin, prime rib, and a T-bone with really tasty flavor.

They both also offer high-grade seafood, free-range chicken, turkey, and Berkshire pork for meat delivery.

We love how they both offer exclusive Black Angus all year long, as well. We say that’s one good meal you would want to try and share with your family or give as a gift to close friends. For your party, you can add wine, a variety of country dish sides, and everything’s perfect.

  • Omaha Steaks, we found out that the business may have a more extensive menu that you can place an order on. They offer bison, veal, wet-aged beef, and gourmet burgers for you to cook.
  • Kansas City Steak Company had a less extensive offering when we ordered, but they never ran out of private stock USDA prime beef, prime rib roast, filet mignons, and steak burgers.

Are Kansas City Steaks Grass

Kansas City Steaks says that its cows are raised by trusted producers in the golden wheat and cornfields of the Midwest. That means that the majority of beef they use is not grass-fed, instead, it is most likely corn-fed.

With that said, the brands website says that it does carry 100% grass-fed beef, but weeding out which ones are grass-fed and which ones arent is trying, as not every page mentions what the cows diets consist of.

Grilling A Prime Rib Roast

Lets talk about how we are going to grill this prime rib roast. Its no secret I am a huge proponent of the reverse-sear method and thats what well use here. Ive promoted the reverse-sear method and indirect heat on large cuts of meat for years and have blogged about it extensively. The idea of searing first to lock in the juices is some of the worst information available when it comes to grilling. Sadly, it just seems to keep being handed down by those who dont know any better. If youve never tried the reverse-sear method, try it now and I promise youll be a believer.

For this roast, well build our fire on one side of the grill and cook the roast on the opposite side of the grill, as far from the heat source as possible. Keep the temps low and of the utmost importance, place your prime rib roast with the bones towards the fire. Remember the first reason I told you why I prefer a bone-in roast to boneless? Placing the bones toward the fire helps ensure an even cooking process.

What Is Ribeye Steak

How to Make a Prime Rib Holiday Roast Three Unique Ways

As already mentioned, rib-eye steak is a cut of meat that also comes from the primal rib section of the cow. When you turn this section around, you will notice round muscles and fats at its end.

The ribeye consists of two muscles the Spinalis Dorsi, known as a rib cap, and Longissimus Dorsi. When cut from the bone side, the big central muscle Spinalis Dorsi with its fat surrounding is called ribeye.

As you can guess, the name “eye” came from its cylindrical shape after being separated from the curved bone. Because this cut comes from the rib area, rib eye steak can also come with the bone on.

Ribeye roast is highly marbled with fat but less than prime rib. That is why rib eye has a milder flavor and buttery taste. With a smooth and sometimes more rigid texture, this cut of meat melts in the mouth.

Its size is smaller and this steak is used in a beef meal usually served in restaurants. It can be a main meal or served with a lot of salads and side dishes.
