Omaha Steaks Review A Reliable Source Of Meat

Omaha Steaks…Are they Worth it?

CONTENTSTimothy Woods

There are countless online meat and steaks providers to choose from, and finding the right one can be tiring. And the moment you start reading those online comments, figuring out whats good and whats not tends to become an overwhelming experience.

Recently, we’ve tried Omaha Steaks, one of the largest providers. Let’s see how they stack up in that department, which will hopefully help you make the right choice for yourself.

Allen Brothers Vs Omaha Steaks

Growing up, my family usually bought our steak at a grocery store- and occasionally wed treat ourselves to seafood from a specialty shop. But one year, near Christmas, someone sent us Omaha Steaks.

I remember the excitement of opening up the package, even though the meal itself wasnt as memorable. There was something special about having it delivered to our door. But a lot about Omaha Steaks, and Allen Brothers, has changed even since then.

For over a century, both Allen Brothers and Omaha Steaks have been serving American steaks and other favorite meats. Yet its exciting- and interesting- to see how theyve transformed.

No longer do you have to travel to Chicago or Omaha: now, both offer online delivery for everything from filet mignon to lobster. But I wanted to see how both companies quality holds up today- especially with a slew of options for organic meat and affordable patties.

Heres my honest look at the very real pros and cons of Allen Brothers vs Omaha Steaks. As much as both of these companies have become American staples for grill-outs and more, what I discovered gives me an idea of if either company is worth it for your next cooking event.

What Kind Of Nutrition Does Omaha Steaks Filet Mignon Have

Omaha Steaks filet mignon receives a D on the nutritional scale. The fact that this filet mignon contains very little salt works in its favor, but the high level of saturated fat and cholesterol are the two drawbacks of Omaha Steaks filet mignon. Filet mignon is an expensive cut of meat that does not contain much protein. 52 grams of filet mignon contains about 3 ounces of protein.

Filet mignon is considered to be the most tender form of beef steak and it is known for its richness. However, due to its high price tag, this meat option may not be suitable for those who are on a budget.

Omaha Steaks introduced the first ever Certified Organic Filet Mignon in 2004. This product is 100 percent natural and contains no added hormones or antibiotics. It is also free of any growth hormones. Unfortunately, this premium filet mignon still has a high amount of fat and calories.

The key to cooking delicious filet mignon is to buy top quality meat and follow a three-step process when preparing it: dry out the steak with paper towels, then brush it with oil and sprinkle it with salt. Finally, heat up a skillet over medium-high heat and cook it for 4 minutes per side for rare to medium-rare meat, 5 minutes per side for medium meat.

How Do You Select The Best Meat Online

Selecting the best meat online is tricky. Unlike shopping at a butchers or a grocery store, you cant inspect the meat yourself. The best beef, for instance, has a reddish color and even abundant marbling but is balanced so as not to be fatty. Theres also a different smell between fresh and older meat. So, ordering online takes a small leap of faith. Yet, it isnt a blind chance. Here are some factors I also consider when looking for meat online:

Are Omaha Steaks Really Worth It? Len Penzo dot Com

Ive shared with you before about Omaha Steaks. I am proud to be an ambassador and Im a huge fan. Omaha Steaks has a stellar reputation as Americas original butcher. They are known for only the highest-quality cuts of meat, all delivered right to your door .

Well, they created a brand new cut of steak. In fact, it is so new and unique, that they are in the process of trademarking this steak. It will officially be known as the Omaha Cut. It is thicker, triple-trimmed, and perfectly sized.

Heres what Omaha Steaks told me about these new Omaha-Cut Ribeye steaks:

  • BEST RIBEYE FLAVOR Ribeyes are exceptionally tender and exceptionally flavorful because they are loaded with fine feather marbling, which melts as the steak cooks, making it profoundly juicy and flavorful.
  • PERFECT TRIM With the OCR, we take the very center of the ribeye and trim off all exterior fat so all youre left with is tender, juicy, ribeye bursting with flavor.
  • THICK + TALL And even better, our Omaha Cut Ribeye is THICK. By trimming all exterior fat and cutting from only the center of the ribeye, we get steaks that are round and tallmeaning, you can cook it to its perfect doneness without fear of overcooking.
  • PERFECTLY PORTIONED And you get all of this in a perfectly portioned steakno massive plate-sized ribeye here. Our Omaha Cut Ribeye is thick, juicy, tender, leaner, and flavorful, in just the right size.

Do You Have To Thaw Omaha Steak Burgers

. Considering this, can I cook Omaha Steak burgers frozen?

Put them into a zip lock baggie and submerge in warm water before cooking. Ignore the worriers who will say to use cold water. That takes too long and you will have them cooked fully well before 4 hours in the danger zone passes.

Likewise, do I need to defrost burgers? When times on your side, you can thaw your frozen burgers in the refrigerator, in cold water or in the microwave, according to the USDA. Thawing your meat in the fridge will usually require at least a full day, depending on the amount of meat youre defrosting. Foods thawed in cold water should be cooked immediately.

Subsequently, question is, do you have to thaw Omaha steaks before cooking?

Thaw your steaks completely in the refrigerator. While Omaha Steaks claims that it is possible to cook your steaks from a frozen state, the results will not be as delectable. Alternately, you can thaw your steaks in a bath of cold water for a quicker defrosting, for 30 minutes to an hour.

How long does it take for Omaha steaks to thaw?

Leaving items in their vacuum-sealed packaging, simple place them in a container of cold water to safely thaw your items more quickly. For example, using this method will allow for a Filet Mignons to thaw completely in 30-45 minutes.

Omaha Steaks Ran Into Trouble Over Their Website

When you hear about the Americans with Disabilities Act, it’s usually in reference to physical entities you know, things like wheelchair ramps, parking spots, or restroom accessibility. But one little known fact about the ADA is that websites also have a vague set of rules they must follow in order to be in compliance with the act.

Some advocacy groups have been known to take businesses to court if their websites aren’t easily accessible for blind users. However, because these rules aren’t quite set in stone , these cases are often gauged on a case-by-case basis.

See, if a business’s website isn’t rendered properly so that it can be easily read using text-to-speech software, that essentially leaves the website useless and inaccessible for someone who’s visually impaired or blind. The Omaha World-Heraldreported in 2017, that the advocacy group Access Now had partnered with three blind would-be customers to sue Omaha Steaks for a number of accessibility issues with their website.

The company, however, claimed that it was planning on doing a complete renovation job on the website later in 2018 and did not want to update its website until it rolled out the full update. The lawsuit was terminated shortly after it began, as the ADA is relatively vague with regards to internet compliance.

Company History And Mission

Chances are youve heard of Allen Brothers or Omaha Steaks or maybe both, even if youve never ordered from either. Thats because both have been around for over a century, and while I love that they have a long history of expertise, I wanted to trace how theyve transformed- and where they see themselves now.

I also think that their company mission statement says a lot about where their focus is. Plus, I wanted to see how their history and mission compare to their quality and service.

Where Does Omaha Steaks Source Their Meat

Beware of fake Omaha steaks

Unfortunately, Omaha Steaks does not make it clear exactly where they source their meats from. Even in their blog article here where they talk about why their beef is better, they dont exactly mention where it comes from. They speak very vaguely about how they select the beef and where it comes from. All of this is a bit discerning considering that Omaha Steaks markets themselves as high-quality meat but fail to mention what makes them high-quality.

How Long Can Omaha Steaks Stay In The Shipping Cooler Before Spoiling

Weve left our meat in its Styrofoam container for upwards of 6 hours from when it arrived on our doorstep . So this means that the meat was in the cooler for over 30 hours and there was still a huge block of dry ice in it. My rule of thumb for anything being delivered frozen is to ensure it is frozen when I open the box or else I consider it spoiled and contact customer support.

Trust me: shipping and delivery are one of the most important things to check if youre ordering steak, meat, or seafood online. My first step was to make sure that Allen Brothers and Omaha Steaks were clear about where they cover, their shipping carriers, and general delivery policies. I also wanted to check how meat was shipped to retain freshness and the process for refunds.

I’d like to point out that you have to pay attention to quantity throughout the process of ordering though.

Wondering why?

For Five Generations Omaha Steaks Has Been A Family Business

In the company’s century-long history, Omaha Steaks has remained a Simon family enterprise the current CEO and owner, Bruce Simon is the great-great-grandson of Omaha Steaks founder J.J. Simon. Simon has grown up in the family business and used to accompany his father to the plant as a child before working there during summer breaks from high school and college. This made Bruce Simon a natural choice to step into the position, as he had served various other positions within the company until 1994, when he became president and CEO.

Unlike other meat industry giants like Tyson Foods and Oscar Mayer, Omaha Steaks remains a privately owned company, meaning that investors cannot purchase shares of Omaha Steaks. While going public is typically looked at as a huge accomplishment for any major company, remaining a private, family-owned business has allowed the company to focus more on its long-term strategies, rather than constantly worrying about quarterly earnings.
