How Long Do You Cook Steaks On Each Side For Medium

How to Cook a Steak on a Gas Grill

It all comes down to time. Cook for 2 minutes on each side for rare, 3-4 minutes on each side for medium-rare, and 4-6 minutes on each side for medium-well. For a steak 22mm thick, use the same procedure. Cook for 2-4 minutes per side until well done, then reduce the heat to low and continue to cook for another 4-6 minutes.

What Temp Is 400 On Grill

Are you looking for the right grill temperature to cook your food? Grill temperatures can vary quite a bit, so its important to know what temp is safe for your specific grill. Here at Green Mountain Grills, we use 400 degrees Fahrenheit as our safe cookingtemperature.

Grill temperatures can go up or down depending on the amount of wood pellets used. The four most common temps on a pellet grill are 400 degrees F, 600 degrees F, 700 degrees F and 800 degrees F.grill masters set the cooking temperature according to the amount of pellets used in their particular unit.

Which Cut Of Steak Is Best For Grilling

When I first started working on this recipe, my top contenders for the steak were the ribeye , the rib steak , the porterhouse, and the T-bone.

Any of those cuts will taste great grilled due to the significant marbling of fat, which leaves the meat tender, and flavorful. Let’s take a closer look at each:

    • Ribeyes vs. Rib steaks: A ribeye has the bone taken out a rib steak, also known as a bone-in ribeye, is a ribeye with the bone in. Due to its extensive marbling, this cut cooks beautifully on the grill, bone in or out. Trim the thick fat from the outside edgeleaving it on will cause flame flare-ups that can give your steak an unpleasant burnt flavor. Don’t worry, trimming it off won’t result in lost flavor!
    • T-Bones vs. Porterhouses: People often confuse these two cuts, which is understandable because both cuts come from the loin and both have a T-shaped bone with meat on both sides. But porterhouses are larger and actually have more of the tenderloin than the T-bone. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Institutional Meat Purchase Specifications say the tenderloin of a porterhouse must be at least 1 1/4 inches thick at its widest, while that of a T-bone must be at least 1/2-inch.

Ultimately, I chose to use ribeye steak for its flavor, size, and the lack of bone — I wanted to slice and serve this steak family-style, and the fact that it doesn’t have a bone makes that easier.

    How To Season Steak

How to Grill a Perfect Ribeye Steak on a Gas Grill

You have a couple of options when it comes to seasoning steak.

    • Keep it simple. When youre cooking a good quality steak, you dont need much in the way of seasoning to enhance the natural richness of the meat. Just a bit of olive oil and a generous sprinkling of salt and pepper will give you the satisfying flavor you crave. You can also sprinkle on some garlic powder, as weve done in this Air Fryer Steak recipe.
    • Steak Marinade. Marinating the steaks before cooking is a simple step that both adds flavor and helps to tenderize the meat.
    • Steak Seasoning. Rubbing the steaks with your favorite steak seasoning is an easy way to ensure intense flavor.

Five: Remove From The Grill And Enjoy

Once your ribeye steaks have reached their desired doneness, remove them from the George Foreman grill and enjoy! Allow steak to rest for a few minutes before serving. This is important, as it allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.

If you cut into a steak right away, all of the delicious juices will run out and youll be left with a dry piece of meat. With these simple steps, youll have perfectly cooked ribeyes every time!

    How To Grill Steak Perfectly

First you are going to want to pick your cut of meat. Now, everyone loves a good filet mignon, I am not exception. The other go-to is a New York Strip classic. But, my absolute favorite is a ribeye. There is just enough fat marbled through it that it marinates itself as it cooks and stays incredibly moist and tender. The flavor is amazing. It is my go-to. Go grab a 1 inch ribeye for you and whoever else you are having over..

But Filet Mignon is hard to beat!

Next, after you go out and grab your cut of meat, you are going to want to let it come to room temp before you season your meat. Just salt and pepper people. You dont need to reinvent the wheel. But first, take a fork and pierce the meat all over fat and everything. Then sprinkle with salt and ground black pepper on both sides enough that it will be nicely seasoned, but not over-powered with either.

You can also if you want always fun to mix things up!

After you have cleaned your grill thoroughly with your brush, spray it with a grill-worthy non-stick spray and then turn it up to 450-500.

Place steak over direct heat to sear let it stay over direct heat for 3-4 minutes. Flip and sear an additional 3-4 minutes on the other side. If you are cooking a fattier meat, like a ribeye, you will probably want to move the steak over to indirect heat at this time. Leaner meats, like a New York Strip or Filet should be left over direct heat the entire time.

How Hot Should The Grill Be For Steak

Raichlen recommends establishing two cooking zones in your charcoal grill: one thats very hot for searing the steak, and one thats medium for finishing the steak and cooking it through.

On a gas grill, heat the grill to 450°F with two burners going, which should only take about 10 minutes, then turn one of the burners down to medium to create two cooking zones.

Not sure if the grill is hot enough? Raichlen’s tip is to hold your hand 3 inches above the grill grate and count “1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi…” If you can only hold it there for a second or two, the grill is hot and you’re ready to cook.

I followed Raichlens advice, and started my steak in the hot zone, then moved it to the medium zone to finish cooking. It worked like a charm.

    How To Grill Tri

How to Cook Ribeye Steak on the Grill

Tri-tip steak is a triangular cut that’s on the leaner side, which means it’s best marinated for a while before it hits the grill. For a slightly more affordable steak that still satisfies your craving for the richness of beef, tri-tip fits the bill. Chef Frothingham likes a miso marinade with yellow miso paste, honey, sesame oil, sriracha, canola oil, and rice wine vinegar.

  • Preheat the grill.
  • Cook the tri-tip steak for about four to six minutes on each side, or until it reaches your desired doneness. Chef Frothingham prefers an internal temperature of 128 degrees.
  • Let the steal rest before slicing and serving.

    Grilling Steak Tips + Q& a

    Best grill temp for steak:

We recommend searing your steak at high heat such as 500ºF for a few minutes on each side to sear the steak and then lower it to 400ºF to finish cooking.

    How long to grill steak

Depending on the thickness of your steak and how done you want it, grill your steak at around 400ºF for around 15-20 minutes.

Should I use a gas or charcoal grill?

Either a gas grill or a charcoal grill works for grilling steak. Its all about preference. We personally used a gas grill because you can manage temperature better.

How do I know my grilled steak is done?

The most precise way to know if your steak is fully cooked is to check the temperature. Use a meat thermometer and stick it in the thickest part of the steak. It should read at least 135ºF before taking it off the grill to safely consume it.

    How To Grill A Steak

  • Prepare marinade: combine the marinade by mixing together Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, garlic, olive oil, lemon pepper, and lemon juice.
  • transfer steaks to a gallon-size bag or baking dish and pour in the marinade. Make sure that the steaks are covered and seal . Let marinate for 30 minutes. Feel free to do this on the counter so that the steaks are room temperature before cooking.
  • Preheat grill: Preheat grill to 500ºF and rub your grill grates with olive oil.
  • Grill: Sear steaks at 500ºF over direct heat for 2 minutes on each side. Then, turn the grill down to 400ºF and continue grilling for 10-15 minutes . Make sure to flip halfway through. For a medium-rare steak, let cook until the internal temperature reaches 140ºF.
  • Let Rest: let the steaks rest on a plate for 5 minutes so that their internal temperature can continue to rise by 5ºF. Make sure to keep the steaks on a plate with a lip because their juices will start to run!
  • Slice and serve: slice your steak filet and serve with butter.
  • Note: if you properly season your steaks with a little salt and pepper or our famous steak marinade, you shouldnt need any steak sauce or bbq sauce for serving because the beefy flavor is so delicious.

How To Make My Steak Juicy And Tender

  • : it is so nice to add in that little extra flavor!
  • Pierce with fork : this isnt necessary, but piercing the steak with a fork to create some tiny holes allows either your salt and pepper or your marinade to penetrate the meat much faster.
  • Sear on both sides: The sear is the key and then you can move to indirect heat to finish cooking. This seals in all those juices and leaves a nice char on the outside.
  • Do NOT over-cook: remember that your steak will continue to cook after you take it off the grill, so really you should shoot for about 5 degrees under where you ultimately want to be when you take the steaks off the grill.
  • Let rest: Your steak will continue to raise about 5 degrees while resting and this allows the juices to redistribute evenly throughout the piece of steak so when you do cut into it, it will be juicy and perfect! Then slice against the grain into nice thick slices.
  • Amp Up The Flavor With Butter Sauce

How to Grill the Perfect Steak Modern Honey

When I first began work on this recipe, I tried dry rubs, oil, and simple salt and pepper. All of these are wonderful things to put on steaks, but I felt like it needed more.

I settled on basting the steak with an herbed butter sauce. First, because butter. Second, because I have an extensive herb garden and it didnt require a trip to the store. I was worried that the butter might burn on the grill, and leave an acrid flavor, but it didnt.

It was pure deliciousness. The herbs added complexity without masking the meatiness of the steak.

Very thin steaks may only need 1 minute or 2 per side.”

You will also need finely ground coffee beans, garlic powder, chipotle powder, salt, pepper, and brown sugar. The recipe also calls for one optional ingredient oil, if you plan to cook your steak on the stovetop.

Is Medium Rare Steak Safe To Eat

When you see the pink part in the steak you get concerned about your health. You take it as if it is not properly cooked. The next thing you think after seeing pink meat in steak is that if it is still having bacteria. Medium rare steak is sometimes mistaken with rare steak. It is having an easily identifiable red color. You should know that medium-rare steak is not the same as rare steak or raw meat.

A medium-rare rib rack wont hurt you if it is stored safely before cooking and well cooked. The average medium rare steak is cooked at a safe temperature. It is not further cooked when the temperature reaches 135- and 140-degrees Fahrenheit. Then it is let to sit for few minutes so that juiciness and flavor are distributed properly.

During this time, the temperature of the steak rises slightly because the heat continues to cook the steak. Hence, the average medium-rare steak should be at 145 degrees Fahrenheit. It is then safe to eat.

How To Use A Meat Thermometer

Since the best way to determine when a steak is done is by checking the internal temperature of the meat, using an instant-read thermometer is key. To test for the correct temperature, stick the thermometer probe in the thickest part, away from fat, bone, or gristle. It’s important to keep in mind that the meat will continue cooking with residual heat even after it’s removed from the grill, by about 5 degrees. So if you’re going for a final internal temperature of 160 F, remove the steak from the heat at about 155 F, give or take.
