How Long Do You Cook A Ribeye On Each Side For Medium

How to Grill Steaks – NoRecipeRequired.com

Rub all sides of the rib-eye steaks with the rub before placing them on a big dish. Transfer the seasoned steaks to the hot grill and cook for 4 to 6 minutes each side for medium-rare, or longer if preferred, until medium-rare is achieved. Remove the steaks from the pan and let them aside for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.

Helpful Tips For Grilling To Keep In Mind

Once you have a good grill sear over high heat, you can move your steaks to a lower temperature to make sure they dont dry out quickly. This is known as indirect grilling. To do this, sear both sides over high heat for a couple of minutes on each side, and then move to low heat. Only turn your steaks once the full time for one side has been reached. Flipping too often on the grill can ruin the cooking process and dry out your steaks faster.

Also, always allow your steaks to rest. You should plan to rest your steak for 5 to 10 minutes to allow the juices to move back through the meat for ultimate flavor and tenderness.

If you do use a digital meat thermometer to better gauge your time for steaks on the grill, make sure you remove your steaks when its internal temperature reaches about five degrees below your desired temperature, since it will continue to cook a bit after you remove it from the grill. If you want your steak to cook to 135 degrees, then remove it when it hits about 130 degrees.

Preparing Your Flank Steak

You will need one pound of flank steak for every three people. Score your steak by making shallow cuts into your meat. This will allow better penetration of your marinade and seasonings. Put your steaks onto a cutting board. Use a sharp knife tip to make cuts on both sides in a diamond pattern. Each cut should be one-quarter of an inch thick and against the grain. You will be using either a marinade or dry rub. Pro Tip: For a stronger flavor, let your flank steaks marinate overnight.

Do You Close The Grill When Cooking Steak

Yes, you close the grill when cooking steak. Closing the grill helps the temperature stay high, achieving the tasty sear you want on the surface of the steak.

But you should check the temperature of the steak frequently. If you have a Traeger that’s no problem, because you can use the temperature probe to keep track.

The higher the cooking temperature, the more often you should peek and test. Different cuts cook at different rates, and you never know exactly how long it’s going to take. Sometimes the steak’s internal temperature will putter along around 100 degrees Fahrenheit and suddenly shoot past the 135-degree target.

How To Cook Steak

  • Season the steak with salt up to 2 hrs before, then with pepper just before cooking.
  • Heat a heavy-based frying pan until very hot but not smoking.
  • Drizzle some oil into the pan and leave for a moment.
  • Add the steak, a knob of butter, some garlic and robust herbs, if you want.
  • Sear evenly on each side for our recommended time, turning every minute for the best caramelised crust.
  • Leave to rest on a board or warm plate for about 5 mins.
  • Serve the steak whole or carved into slices with the resting juices poured over.
  • Fourth Position And Testing For Doneness

As you prepare to turn the steak for the last time, it’s time to start checking for doneness. The steak should show no red around the side and the top side should have a rich brown color. As you pick the steak up to rotate it 45 degrees , feel the density of the steak. A medium-rare steak should be firm but still have a good amount of give. Close the lid of the barbecue and continue grilling.

After this last position, turn down the heat on your grill and, if needed, test the temperature of the steak. The internal temperatures for different levels of doneness are:

    • Rare: 120 to 130 F
    • Medium Rare: 130 to 135 F
    • Medium: 140 to 150 F
    • Medium Well: 155 to 165 F
    • Well: 170 F or higher

If your steak needs more cook time, leave it where it is and continue grilling on medium heat until done.

Use Instant Read Thermometer Or Hand Test To Check Doneness

Now for many years of being using just the pressing test to see whether the state has been done when its really really soft to the touch then you know that its probably pretty rare in that it gets firms as it gets cooked obviously.

Then one day I came across the hand firmness test, which puts my experience into a framework, its a 1-minute video.

The easiest way possible is obviously an instant-read thermometer which have become very popular these days or a pen thermometer. I have one but I dont really need to use one because I am confident about being good at cooking steaks to perfection .

How Do You Prepare The Steak

How to Cook Ribeye Steak on the Grill

Once you have selected your preferred steak, preparation is the next step.

First, if your steak was stored in a fridge, let it attain room temperature. Then use a paper towel to dry excess moisture on the steaks.

Suppose your steaks have an excess fat layer you should trim it. You should also evenly add salt to the steak. You can also marinate the steak with your favorite marinades if you need them.

Leave the steak to rest for about an hour or two as it absorbs the marinades and salt. It will also make the meat tender. However, some people do leave the steak to rest for a day or two. It all depends on what you want to achieve.

    How To Grill Steak 101

Everyone needs to learn how to grill a steak properly!! I know it can be intimidating, but it truly is something everyone can master. The first step is to pick out high-quality meat, which is why I am so excited to partner with Country Natural Beef on this tutorial!

They also happen to be a Whole30-Approved partner! And I have to say, this is honestly the best beef I have ever tasted. The Best Cuts For Grilling

First, let’s talk beef: rib-eye, strip and tenderloin are all great cuts for the grill. If you choose bone-in steaks, keep in mind that they take longer to cook. Look for good marbling to guarantee a juicy and tender cut. And ideally, steaks should be at 1 1/2 to 2 inches thick to form a nice charred crust without overcooking.

Flank, skirt and hanger steaks are also great on the grill. These thinner cuts are best marinated, grilled quickly over high heat and sliced against the grain to serve.

Factors That Affect The Cooking Time Of Steak

There are several factors that go into determining the cook time on a steak. The two most important factors are the thickness of the steak and how you like it cooked.

The other factor is what is the temperature of the steak before you grill it. I always suggest bringing your steak out at least 30 minutes before cooking so it can start to warm up. Make sure to follow food safety guidelines and don’t leave the steak out for longer than 2 hours before cooking.

If you start out with a cold steak, you will need to increase your timing by a few minutes. A steak that is left out for at least 30 minutes will also sear better. This is because it doesn’t cool down the grill as much as a cold steak will, so we have more immediate heat transfer.

Please see the chart below for cooking times based on thickness of the steak.

Also keep in mind that there isn’t a chart that is 100% accurate in all instances and they should be used as a guideline only. The only way to measure the temperature of a steak is with a good thermometer.

I like to use both the probe that comes with my Ninja Foodi XL Grill AND my instant read thermometer. Sometimes, the probe is more of a hassle than it’s worth, but I have found it to be accurate when it is placed correctly. I’ll go over proper probe placement in a bit.

Anthony Bourdain Says To Stop Doing These 4 Things When ...
  • Prepare marinade: combine the marinade by mixing together Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, garlic, olive oil, lemon pepper, and lemon juice.
  • transfer steaks to a gallon-size bag or baking dish and pour in the marinade. Make sure that the steaks are covered and seal . Let marinate for 30 minutes. Feel free to do this on the counter so that the steaks are room temperature before cooking.
  • Preheat grill: Preheat grill to 500ºF and rub your grill grates with olive oil.
  • Grill: Sear steaks at 500ºF over direct heat for 2 minutes on each side. Then, turn the grill down to 400ºF and continue grilling for 10-15 minutes flipping halfway. For a medium-rare steak, let cook until the internal temperature reaches 140ºF.
  • Let Rest: let the steaks rest of a plate for 5 minutes so that their internal temperature can continue to rise by 5ºF.

    Best Steak Marinade For Grilling

In this particular grilled steak recipe, were using our favorite grilled steak marinade. Its made with some of our favorite ingredients. Heres what you need:

    • garlic: minced garlic is such an amazing flavor for pretty much any marinade.
    • Worcestershire sauce: Worcestershire sauce is tangy with a punch of vinegar and its so necessary.
    • balsamic vinegar: balsamic adds a hint of sweetness with too much sweet.
    • lemon juice: a little citrus goes a long way and really brightens up this steak marinade.
    • olive oil: olive oil will help keep things nice and juicy.
    • lemon pepper: I love that you get the traditional pepper flavor, but also a lemon zest punch with lemon pepper.

    Season Meat And Refrigerate

So whether you want to do a rub or mix-up so spices or buy a pre-prepared one.

These rubs and steak seasonings always have a certain amount of salt and probably some sugar too quite often.

You can really just give it a good dousing of salt to start with and then stick it in the fridge for 15 minutes to an hour.

So I guess you could call this some type of quick cure where the salt inhibits the meat before it starts to actually draw out moisture. It retains the moisture molecules inside the meat .

    Common Grilling Steak Times

So, how long do you cook steak on the grill? That answer largely depends on the thickness of the meat youre cooking. You can cook thin or thick cuts on the grill just fine, but youll definitely want to alter your times to cook your desired cuts to the right doneness, which, again, is a matter of preference.

One good tip to keep in mind is to use a meat thermometer for thick cuts of steak and a timer for thin ones. A steak thats ¾ of an inch thick or less may be difficult to get an accurate temperature reading from, so a timer can help. But a meat thermometer can give you a more precise idea of the doneness of your steak to make sure its right.

For a medium-rare doneness, you typically will need to grill your steak between 4 to 6 minutes on each side, depending on thickness. For medium cooks, shoot for closer to 5 to 8 minutes on each side. Its always best, though, to start with the lower grilling steak time and check with your finger to see if it might need a bit more time, instead of allowing it to cook for a couple of extra minutes. You can always cook it a bit longer if required, but you cant get back tenderness you lose from overcooking.

When you touch the center of your steaks, a medium rare cook will spring back slightly, yet still feel squishy. A medium cook will be more springy than squishy. If all else fails, you can always cut a small slit in the center of your steak to check its color, but this should only be used as a last resort.

How to Cook Filet Mignon on the Grill

Once your grill is hot enough, brush the metal bars of your grill with vegetable or olive oil using a grill brush. You are now ready to place your flank steaks on your grill. As soon as your steaks come in contact with the surface of your grill, they should start to sizzle. Pro Tip: If you do not have a grill brush available, you can use bunched up paper towels dipped in oil. Make certain your hand does not come into contact with the surface of your grill.

During the first few minutes, you will be searing your flank steaks. This will require between three and four minutes. Use a pair of tongs to turn over your steaks. Provided your grill was nice and hot, you should see blackened or dark brown areas of your steak with a crispy appearance. If your meat is not well seared, turn it back over immediately and let your meat continue to cook.

Once your flank steaks are well seared, cook them on the other side over high heat for another three to four minutes. This will ensure you have a crispy layer on both sides for a great taste and the ideal texture. You will enjoy the caramelized exterior of your steaks. Once both sides of your flank steaks have been seared, you will need to move them to a cooler section of your grill. You can do this using your tongs.

    • Medium-Well: 150 degrees Fahrenheit

    Preparing For The Grill

One thing that most steaks have in common is that they need a bit of preparation before you get started. Your grill will, too, to ensure that its at the proper temperature and ready to cook up the perfect steak.

First, make sure your steak cuts are at room temperature before you place them on the grill. Doing so will help you get a more even cook so that the inside can cook to your preferred doneness without charring the outside.

Then, get your grill oiled and fired up! Make sure your grates are greased so your steaks can turn easily without getting stuck. Turn the grill on high heat and allow it to warm up before adding your steaks to give it the incredible sear youre after.
