Osaka Japanese Sushi And Steak House In Brookline’s Coolidge Corner Has Closed
A Japanese restaurant in Brookline has shut its doors, and it appears to be a permanent closure.
According to a poster within the Friends of Boston’s Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Osaka Japanese Sushi and Steak House in the Coolidge Corner area is no longer in operation, with a check on the website for the Green Street spot stating that it has “closed indefinitely” while thanking all of its customers and saying “It was our pleasure to serve you and encourage you to visit us in Northampton.” Osaka, which first opened in the fall of 2011, included hibachi tables, a full bar, and a sushi bar within its space.

A show in itself, the hibachi room is filled with excitement, laughter and the delightful aroma of fried rice.
After recognizing an opportunity in the Japanese-inspired dining realm, owners Michael and Annie Chou opened Osaka Japanese Hibachi Steakhouse & Sushi Bar in Tallahassee in 1998. Having previously owned a Chinese restaurant in Tallahassee, Chous Dynasty, Mr. Chou saw an opportunity in uncharted dining territory: hibachi.
While the Japanese Steakhouse concept was new for the Chous, the cuisine was not. Mr. Chou was raised in the sovereign state of Taiwan, which was occupied by Japan for 50 years.
From the conception of the Chous first Osaka Japanese Hibachi Steakhouse & Sushi Bar, to the rebuild of their new Tallahassee location in 2020, the Chous have always held true to three enduring values: cleanliness, service and quality. Over the years, they have grown into other markets and opened Osaka restaurants in both Panama City Beach at Pier Park and in the heart of Destin.
Open daily for lunch and dinner, Osaka offers hibachi, a full-service bar, Gulf-fresh sushi and sashimi from their expansive sushi bar which is the heart of each of their locations. The exterior architecture of the buildings, surrounded by koi ponds and tranquil landscaping, evokes an authentic feeling that could only be found at a local restaurant in Osaka, Japan.

Restaurant Review: Osaka Japanese Sushi And Steak House In Northampton
Operating out of a second-story location, Osaka Japanese Sushi & Steak House offers interesting, above-the-action views of downtown Northampton. A unique setting isn’t, however, the primary reason for visiting Osaka, even though its minimalist Far Eastern decor and elevated perspectives are certainly appealing.
Osaka, it seems, has a well-deserved reputation as one of the better places in the Pioneer Valley to enjoy sushi. The rice-raw fish combinations its chefs produce are both artistic and tasty the choices available, comprehensive.
The repertoire at Osaka is about more than fish and rice, however.
Equipped with live-action teppanyaki grills, Osaka serves an assortment of hibachi dinners that ranges from Hibachi Chicken and Squid to high-end combinations such as Filet Mignon & Lobster Tail .
Osaka also relies on the sort of menu template most Japanese eateries use, featuring tempura various teriyaki entrees and agemono that include a pork cutlet
Donburi , Udon and Bento Box dinners round out the bill of fare.
We started out our meal by sharing an appetizer plate of Sushi , a five-piece assortment that included tuna, snapper, and salmon. Simply but skillfully crafted, the sushi featured properly prepared rice and fresh, firm-textured fish.
Presented on a bed of stir-fried broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, and bamboo sprouts, the dish was obviously designed to appeal to those with a yen for red meat.
