    How Much Steak Seasoning To Use

    The amount of steak seasoning per steak will depend on the size of your steaks and the seasoning you are using. You can always eyeball it and just season generously, but I often measure to ensure I truly have the right amount the ideal amount is often more than you think you need!

    The most critical component in seasoning is salt, so I always determine the amount to use based on how much salt is in the recipe.

    TIP: Julia Childs rule of thumb is 1 teaspoon of salt per pound of meat. So for steak seasoning, youd use the amount of seasoning needed to include that much salt.

    Of course, this Montreal steak seasoning recipe has other ingredients besides salt, so the rule of thumb for this one is 1/2 tablespoon Montreal steak seasoning per 8-oz steak.

    The photo below shows this seasoning on a beef tenderloin. Notice that there is a lot of seasoning on it this is what you want for maximum flavor!

    Reader Bruce Kearney put us on to this recipe of his departed friend Alex, and it certainly qualifies as one of MTLs best. This chicken is roasted over indirect heat, charcoal preferably.     If youve ever been to the Hooters in Greenfield Park, then you probably have a pretty good idea of what the one on Crescent Street will be like.

    So, Montrealers who also happen to love Hooters, worry not. Very soon, therell be a restaurant right here in the city where you can get your wings, beer, and Hooters fix.

    Can You Make These Steaks Into Shish Kabobs

    Yes! Sirloin is one of the best cuts of steak for making shish kabobs. When using this marinade to make kabobs, I recommend cubing the steak, then adding it to the marinade. This means, more of the steak surface area gets to soak up the delicious marinade.

    After marinating the cubes of steak for at least 20 minutes, skewer the steak by itself or with veggies like bell peppers and onions. Grill the steak shish kabobs over medium-high heat for 4-5 minutes, flip and continue grilling for an additional 4-5 minutes.

    How To Make Montreal Steak Seasoning

    This recipe is the classic version of Montreal Steak Seasoning, but by all means you can make adjustments. For example, if you dont have coarse ground pepper handy, you could choose ground. If you dont have sea salt, try kosher salt instead.

    The important part is that if you want a delicious flavor, use high end spices. My two favorites are Penzeys Spices and Dean & Deluca

    Beyond that, making this recipe is just about evenly blending: sea salt, coarse black pepper, whole coriander, dill seeds and crushed red pepper flakes. Then blending them with the following ground spices: paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and a touch of cayenne pepper

    Additional Effects Of High Sodium Intake

    The body is naturally so very impressive, for when it notices an imbalance, it tries to correct it on its own unfortunately, that can lead to other conditions if it spends a long time trying to fix the imbalance. This is the case with chronic kidney disease and osteoporosis.

    The first response the body has is the excrete out the excess sodium, but that puts a lot of pressure on the kidneys as they have to filter the blood which is coming in very fast and at a very high pressure.

    This extra strain on the kidney may cause fatigue and damage to the kidneys which cand eventually lead to chronic kidney disease.

    When the body maintains high levels of salt, one of the responses to try to correct this is by releasing calcium from the bones. Since most of our bodies stop storing calcium after we turn 23, the constant loss without replacement leads to weak and brittle bones.

    If this continues over a long period of time, it can develop into a condition called osteoporosis where even just a small fall can result in several broken or fractured bones.

    So you see, even if you havent been given a specific guideline or diagnosis to reduce sodium, its good for everyone to be aware of their intake and choose lower sodium options such as our super simple seasoning!

    This is not only great on steaks but any kind of meat item you may be preparing as well as roasted veggies.
