Expert Tips And Tricks

The Great Steak & Potato Wedding of 2014
  • Be sure to cut your steak into pieces that are at least 2 x 2 inches, and potatoes into pieces smaller than one inch. This ensures even cooking.
  • I like my steak with just a teeny tiny hint of pink right in the middle, just to the point its about to disappear completely. If you like it that way too, I suggest cutting the steak into larger 2-inch chunks because the potatoes need enough time to cook all the way through.
  • If you like more doneness to your steak, just cut it into 1-inch pieces and it should come out just right.
  • For medium doneness on the steak, boil the potatoes first for five minutes before adding to the bowl and proceeding with the rest of the recipe. This will help them to cook faster once in the foil pack.
  • If you prefer a bit of char on your steak, you can open up the packets at the end and cook for a couple minutes directly on the grill, or for baking you can switch the oven to broil for a few minutes, again with the packets opened.

How Two Brothers Shared Love Of The Cheesesteak Became Americas Premier Cheesesteak Sandwich Franchise

How did the regional cheesesteak get to be one of the hottest sandwiches on the American cultural landscape? To answer that, well have to go back to 1982, when two brothers from Ohio traveled to Philadelphia and fell in love with the cheesesteak. Determined to spread the joy of thinly sliced sirloin steak and melted cheese pressed into a French roll baked in-house, the brothers founded the Great Steak & Potato Company in Ohio. Now known simply as Great Steak, its menu has grown from a single cheesesteak to a complete line of specialty sandwiches, fries and baked potatoes.

Our recipe for generating customer loyalty is based on authenticity. Invented in Philadelphia, the cheesesteak is an American original thats become a tradition. At Great Steak, we make our cheesesteaks with only the finest American ingredients, from the specially cut and marinated beef to our freshly baked bread. Grilled to perfection, its a genuine slice of homegrown comfort food.

Cheesesteaks are a category of their own, says Kari Combs, Vice President of Operations for Great Steak. Its the quintessential American sandwich, which at its best features the simple ingredients of the original found in Philadelphia: thinly sliced sirloin steak and melted cheese cooked quickly on a griddle and then placed on a lightly toasted French roll which is soft enough to soak up the juices. Its relatable and easy to understand, and once youve had a Great Steak cheesesteak, youre hooked for life.

How Do You Cook Meat And Vegetables In A Slow Cooker

Firm vegetables like potatoes and carrots work well. Place them on top of the meat inside your crock and sprinkle on the seasonings. Keep them LARGE or theyll fall apart.

It is best to cook on the low setting the cook time will be twice as long as cooking on high but will yield a better result.

  • Yes you could cook just your meat inside your pot but when its time to sit down and eat youre going to look for some carbs, so just go ahead and cook everything together!
  • It just makes a lot more sense to do it that way. One pot meals are the way to go you know.
  • PLUS, potatoes soak up all the flavorful juices from the meat and seasonings which makes them one of the best parts of the meal.

We follow this same method to cook a whole chicken in a Crockpot. Theyre fought over at dinnertime I tell you.

Heres How You Make It

Wasn

To make these amazing foil packs, youll want to start by seasoning the steak. To do this, combine the pieces of steak with potatoes, olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic, and the rest of the seasonings and give it a toss to combine.

Next, tear off four 12 x 12 sheets of foil . And divide the steak and potatoes between the sheets of foil. Wrap the corners up around the ingredients to form the foil packs. Put the packs right on the grill grates and grill over high heat for about 10 minutes on both sides or until steak and potatoes are cooked through. If you prefer to bake rather than grill the steak foil packs, then pop them in the oven at 425 degrees for about 20-25 minutes or until they are cooked through to desired doneness. I like to garnish my packs with fresh thyme or parsley and serve immediately while they are nice and hot.

How To Cook The Perfect Skillet Steak

  • Let the steak sit at room temperature for 30 minutes. Season the steak generously on each side with salt and pepper. In a cast-iron skillet with 1 Tablespoon of oil over high heat add the steaks to the pan and sear each side 3 minutes or until brown.
  • Reduce heat to medium low. Cook the steak to desired doneness. Rare = 125 degrees, Medium Rare = 135 degrees, Medium = 145 degrees, Medium Well = 150 degrees and Well Done = 160 degrees. Some say to flip only once while cooking, I like to flip mine a few times.
  • Right before serving the steak slather the butter compound on top and let it melt into the tender steak. This gives it a nice finishing touch and adds such great flavor.

I used to like my steak well done but now I like my steak more medium or medium well. It just seems more tender and melt in your mouth this way. So I cook the steak to about 145 degrees. The best part about this steak is the garlic butter herb compound that you slather on the steak right at the end. It just melts into the steak and gives it such incredible flavor.

This skillet steak is easily the best steak that I have had. Cooked to tender and juicy perfection and the butter garlic herb flavor is unreal! Your family will love this skillet meal.

How To Make Twice Baked Potatoes

Bake whole potatoes until a sharp knife can easily be inserted. Halve the baked potatoes and carefully scoop out the flesh. Drizzle the skins with a little olive oil and bake for 10 minutes to crisp up. Mash the cooked potato flesh with cream cheese, grated cheddar cheese, chopped chives and a generous seasoning of salt and pepper. Spoon the filling back into the crisp potato skins then top with grated cheese and bake for 10-15 minutes until golden and bubbling.

Can You Overcook In A Slow Cooker

Great Steak: Making the Perfect Cheesesteak

Slow cookers gradually bring your food up to a simmer point. You cant overcook it up to that point, but it can happen if you cook it too long after it reaches this stage.

It will begin to dry out regardless of how much liquid youve included in your pot.

  • I havent ever had this issue with really any Crockpot recipe Ive made, but I tend to always cook on low and never more than 8 hours.
  • As long as you follow directions accordingly, and add enough liquid you should be just fine.

Time needed: 6 hours.

came here on a Tuesday night, it was packed! good thing we had reservations! it was really loud in the dining room, I guess with the people trying to shout over each otherwe were served by a gentleman, I don’t remember his name, but the service was pretty mediocre.I ordered the top sirloin with twicebakedpotato. my husband got the baseball sirloin with mashed potatoes.the bread came piping hot, and it was really good. I asked the server for lemon for my water, he said sure! and never came with it. I had to ask him to fill up my water glass twice.when my meal came, it was a bakedpotato and not a twicebaked. I didn’t even bother sending it back, I just ate what was there. the food was really well seasoned. usually the steak is too salty, but I found this one perfectly seasoned, and perfectly cooked rare.My father in law thought he ordered the keg classic which should come with a salad. when we asked the waiter, he said we did not ask for that, and was very defensive about it. sigh, I just said forget it, and ordered a salad on the side.the food was really good and nice and hot. the service on the other hand was disappointing. and it wasn’t like he was busy. he was standing at the side chatting with other busboy/waitresses.so come here for the food! service will be hit and miss. I’m sure there’s some outstanding servers here! just hope you get luckier!

To cut down on prep time for this recipe because I know you dont want to leave your beach blanket or lawn chair any sooner than you have to! were using a great cut of steak that doesnt require any marinade. Its still going to be incredibly tender, and the entire meal comes together in under 30 minutes easily.
