How long do you cook a steak? Well, that depends on how you like it! We all like a medium steak around here. To get it just right, all thats really needed is a good timer. 4 minutes on one side, 4 minutes on the other. Only one flip. Nothing else. Keep it simple. And let the steak be amazing!

Of course, you can always double check with a meat thermometer for good measure. And thats probably a good idea if you like a different level of done-ness.

  • rare = 125 degrees Fahrenheit
  • medium rare = 135 degrees Fahrenheit
  • medium = 145 degrees Fahrenheit
  • medium well = 150 degrees Fahrenheit
  • well done = 160 degrees Fahrenheit

Wheres The Twist In This Steak Recipe

Heres the step we changed and the twist that makes this recipe truly unique. Youll want to start the steak with the sous vide cooking method. To begin, pour water into your pot. Set the sous vide machine time and temperature, then place it in the water. This should be pretty clear, based on the instructions that came with your particular machine.

Next, put the bag in the water for an hour and 30 minutes. For rare steak, cook it to 123 degrees Fahrenheit. For medium-rare youll want to hit 131 degrees and 158 degrees for well done. Be sure to submerge the bag in the water entirely to make sure that your steak is evenly cooked.

When the timer goes off, simply remove the bag from the water. Take the steak out of the bag and dry it with a paper towel if needed.

Gordon Ramsay Filet Mignon Ingredients

  • Filet steaks: Filet steaks/mignons vary per continent. In Europe, theyre sliced from one end of the beef tenderloin and weigh 3-4 oz. In the US, theyre sliced from the complete central tenderloin and approximately 6-8 ounces each. Petite Filet Mignon is a European cut available in the US. I used 6-ounce standard American steaks from the tenderloin. The only variation in the cooking procedure is time. Petite filet mignons cook quickly, so monitor them.
  • Garlic: It is essential that you use fresh garlic cloves in this dish.
  • Oil: To sear the steak, I employ a neutral frying oil. If you must use butter, save it for the oven and stick to oil. For the very high temperature well be employing for the searing, oil is preferable to butter because of its lower burning point.

Tip #6 Arroser Your Steak

  • What is “arroser”? A french finishing technique that translates “to baste”. This arroser technique is spooning the melted butter and fat drippings in the pan up and over your cooking steak in the last 1 to 3 minutes. Sometimes, garlic cloves and fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme are added to the butter to add great flavors.
  • Adding this very simple technique will blow you away and completely change your cooking on almost any steak cooked in a pan. It keeps your steaks tender and juicy, and helps to finish off the cooking evenly.
  • If you’ve ever watched Gordon Ramsay cooking a pan-seared steak, you have seen him and his cohort of chefs or chef contestants using this method to spoon melted butter and pan juices over the steak! It keeps the steak moist and adds buttery richness to your finished steak.

What Frying Pan Does Gordon Ramsay Use Non

Frying pans do the job of frying or scrambling eggs to stir-frying and toasting nuts and seeds. They are made from various metals, each having its positives and negatives. The metals ability to tolerate and conduct heat will dictate how well the pans will brown food or how easily food can burn them and how to distribute heat evenly.

Ive used and recommend both cookware sets, the ScanPan 10-Piece Cookware Set and the All-Clad Tri-Ply Stainless Steel Cookware both are well-made pans with a solid, heavy bottom, heat fast, and they get the job done. Visit the ScanPan or All-Clad on Amazon.

Weight also matters because when you buy a lightweight stainless-steel pan, your stew meat will stick to the pot the ease of cleaning varies. Below, I go over what you need to know about the most commonly available materials on the market and what each pan is used for.

How To Cook The Perfect Steak

Make sure your steaks are completely thawed. Remove them from the fridge and allow them to sit outside fridge for AT LEAST 20 minutes.

Put a pan over medium-high heat. Season thawed steaks with a good amount of large grain salt and ground pepper, rub bottom of steaks with excess salt and pepper that has fallen onto table.

Once pan begins to smoke drop 1-2 Tbsp of olive oil in and coat pan in it. Lay steaks away from you into pan and let sear for one minute on each side. There should be three sides you sear . Render the fat throughout all the cooking.

Note: to render fat, tilt pan up and and lean steaks against far edge of pan as you see below.

Crush some fresh garlic, pinch off some fresh thyme, grab another Tbsp of olive oil and add it to pan around steaks while continuing to turn the steaks every minute.

Add 2 Tbsp of butter to hot pan and baste the steaks by scooping melted butter on top of the cooking steaks.

Pro Tip: Gordon tells you to check tenderness by equating the tenderness of your palm to rare, top of the wrist as medium, and just below that as well done. It is difficult for me to use that method, so I use cheek as rare, chin as medium, and forehead as well done.

Continue basting and turning steaks on the minute until steak is at desired tenderness! Brush steaks with garlic. Remove from heat and place on cutting board and let rest 5-10 minutes, serve and enjoy the ultimate Gordon Ramsay Perfect Steak!

I Combined All Of The Ingredients To Make The Chimichurri

How To Cook A Steak by Gordon Ramsay

The recipe called for a “blended oil.” Without Googling, I wasn’t sure what that meant, so I just used olive oil. I later learned he meant an oil made up of two or more oils, but it didn’t seem to impact my recipe much.

I added the oil and red wine vinegar to the bowl, then mixed in some seasonings like dried oregano, and my other ingredients.

The chimichurri was bright, acidic, and herbaceous, and only took about five minutes to prepare. After tasting it, I added more red pepper flakes because I wanted the sauce to be spicier.

What Is The Rarest Cooked Steak

A blue steak is extra rare and slightly shy of served raw. Its called blue because it boasts a blueish or purple color, depending on your color perception. It changes to red when exposed to air and loses that blue color because the myoglobin gets oxygenated from the time its cut to when you buy it from the butcher.

Get the skillet nice & hot. Heat oil in cast iron skillet on stove top over medium heat until the oil is hot and shimmery.

Let it sizzle in the skillet. Add 1/2 tsp salt to the skillet. Cover one side of the steak with 1/2 tsp of salt and 1/2 tsp of pepper. Place the steak seasoned side down in the hot skillet. Oven Temperature And Time

Gordon Ramsay Shows a NFL Star How To Make The Perfect Ribeye

I suggest a 400° oven. For a final internal temperature of about 145°, it usually takes 7-8 minutes. However, you can use a little lower or higher oven temperature, with or without convection, and get about the same resultsremember, you are cooking to a final temperature, not by time.

For rare, it may be almost no time in the oven if you did a strong sear with a rest to room temperature or if you steaks are thinner.

If your steak is thicker or was not rested to room temperature, or you want it more in the well-done range, it may take 12-15 minutes.

There are several variables that will determine the cooking time. The initial temperature of the steak, the thickness of the steak, the temperature of the oven, the length of the sear, and your desired finish level.

A final word to the wise, NEVER COOK BY TIME ALONE, cook to your target internal temperature.
