How To Cook A Tomahawk Steak In The Oven
Perhaps you don’t have access to a grill.
A reverse sear tomahawk steak can also be done in your oven.
Set your oven to 225 degrees F or the lowest it can go.
Place your steak on a cooling rack on top of a baking sheet and insert a meat thermometer.
Cook the tomahawk steak until the interior temperature reaches 125 degrees F, then remove the tomahawk from the oven.
Once removed from the oven, heat up the grapeseed oil in a cast iron pan at high heat.
Sear the steak for about a minute on each side, until the exterior has a nice char.
Make sure to rest your steak for at least 10 minutes prior to serving.

How To Cook A Tomahawk Steak
The tomahawk steak is really, really big and cooking a tomahawk steak can seem daunting.
Usually we opt to sous vide our steaks, but that is challenging with such a large steak!
We found the best way to cook a tomahawk steak is by using the reverse sear method.
Wondering how to reverse sear a steak?
It’s just like a traditional way to cook a steak but in reverse.
You start by cooking it lower and slower and finish with a hot sear.
We’ve used this method on our Traeger when cooking a smoked tomahawk steak as well.
How Long Does It Take To Smoke A Turkey
Use the internal turkey temperature to gauge the doneness, not time.
A turkey can take up to 35 minutes per pound when smoking at 220 degrees F, but a number of factors could impact the cook time.
Use your digital thermometer in the thigh of the bird and the smoked turkey will be done when it reaches 165 degrees F internal temperature.
The smoked turkey will increase in temperature by up to 10 degrees during the resting process as well.

Omaha Steaks has a new steak in their line of premium beef and gourmet foods. Its the Omaha Steaks Private Reserve Rib Crown Steak. It is carved from the most tender part of the Ribeye, has a rich and beefy flavor of a Ribeye with the tenderness of a Filet Mignon.
I got the chance to try the Omaha Steaks Private Reserve Rib Crown Steak. When I received them it arrived on my doorstep in a styrofoam cooler with dry ice. I thawed them out for a day. The next day I seasoned them with steak seasoning and added them to the grill.
I cut into the steak and it was so easy to do. I hate fat on my steak and usually end up wasting half of it because I cut all the fat off. But with the Omaha Steaks Private Reserve Rib Crown Steak I didnt have to do that. There was not one single ounce of fat on it. I ate the entire steak without any problems. And chewing it was like butter. It just melted in my mouth. My family wanted more steaks when we finished them. The package comes with 4 steaks. So if you have a larger family like mine, I would get 2 packages to fill everyone up since they are so tasty.

The Perfect Skillet Steak
According to my kids, steak should be juicy. I decided to make a Garlic Compound Butter to put over the steak as it was finished cooking. To prepare the steaks, I simply used Omaha Steaks Private Reserve Rub and some herbs and cooked the steaks in my cast iron skillet with a small amount of olive oil. Here is the recipe, adapted from The Recipe Critic. The Garlic Compound Butter Recipe was adapted from Omaha Steaks.
Skillet Steak Ingredients
- 1tspfresh thyme chopped
- 1/2tspdried rosemary
- 6Yukon Gold Potatoessliced
- 2tbspsoftened butter
- salt and pepperto taste
- Omaha Steaks Private Reserve Rubto taste
Season steaks with Omaha Steaks Private Reserve Rub to taste.
To cook potatoes, heat olive oil and butter over medium-high heat.
Add potatoes, garlic, thyme, rosemary, and oregano and cook for 3 minutes. Stir and cook and additional 3 minutes until tender. Set aside.
To make the Garlic Compound Butter, mix the softened butter with herbs and set aside.
Raise heat to high and add the steaks into the same skillet.
Cook steaks 3 minutes on each side, or until the outside is browned.
Reduce heat to medium-high and cook steaks until your preferred doneness.
Before steaks have completed cooking, spread Garlic Compound Butter over steaks and allow to melt.
