Advantages To Buying Meat In Bulk
Here are some of my favorite reasons to buy in bulk:
- Low cost: When you buy in bulk, you will often save money on the price per pound. This is because farmers and butchers can sell the meat at a lower cost than retail when they offer larger quantities. You also have savings compared to going to restaurants to eat ribeye, chuck, or shoulder steaks.
- Convenience: When you have an ice box full of meat, you don’t have to make trips to the store every time you want to cook a meal. You can have bacon, lamb, sausage, turkey, or chicken whenever you want. This can save you time and money in the long run.
- Quality: When you buy wholesale meat, you can often get higher quality meat than what you would find at the grocery store. This is because you can buy meat from local farmers and butchers who raise their animals on grass or grain, depending on your preference.
- Storage: Buying wholesale meat means that you always have fresh stock on hand. This can be a lifesaver on busy weeknights when you don’t have time to go to a retail store or restaurant.
- Environmentally friendly: When you buy meat in bulk, you have less styrofoam and other packaging waste. Also, you have fewer trips to the grocers, so you don’t emit as many harmful greenhouse gases.

Highlights Of Products Available From Perdue Farms:
I recently got the Medium Size Gatherings Box, and so far I have loved everything I have tried from this box. The meat products really are of a great quality, and taste has been wonderful. Overall the convenience has been the most amazing though. Everything comes packaged in dry ice, so it is still frozen when it arrives on your porch. There is no extra repackaging needed, just put it in your freezer until you are ready to use it. This had made things so much easier at my household, especially in a busy month like December.

Butcher Shop & Farmers Market
Another great source for your steaks is the local butcher shop. While there are chains of butchers, visiting a chain makes it harder to know where things are coming from. Conversely, if you go to an independently owned butcher, they can usually tell you exactly where their cattle is coming from, what breed it is, and why they chose it. Best of all, you can even have your local butcher dry-age certain beef cuts to your exact specifications, ensuring the flavor profile that you most enjoy. Additionally, you can also buy meat from a local farmers market the benefits of this option are that youll be able to get to know the farmer well with repeated shopping , and be secure in the knowledge that all the money youre paying goes to him, and not to some marketing or logistics scheme.

What Are The Downsides Of Buying Meat In Bulk
You need extra space. Even sharing a quarter-cow or hog with another family can mean a lot of meat. If you have a small freezer and its already packed, buying in bulk may not be right for you.
Its an upfront investment: You pay for 6-12 months worth of meat all at once, and some families dont have the budget for a one-time payment. That inventory is so valuable that Dee says some families actually add their freezer and contents to their homeowners insurance plan.

You wont know the exact price when ordering: Because the Retail Weight is so different from the Live Weight , you wont have an exact figure when you place your order. But the farmer should be able to give you a ballpark.
You get many different cuts: This is either an upside or a downside, depending on how you like to cook. If you only want certain cuts bulk meat isnt for you. When you buy a portion of a whole animal, you get lots of different cuts, some of which may not be familiar to you. A few folks were disappointed when I denied their request for an all-bacon pig, jokes Lyndsey. You may need to Google how to prepare new-to-you cuts of meator better yet, ask the farmer directly. They likely have loads of good recipes and tips.
1) Go to the Butcher Box website.
2) Choose your box. You can choose between a mixed box of beef, pork and chicken beef and pork, beef and chicken, all beef, or your own custom box.
3) Choose how much meat you need

Why Is Ribeye Steak So Expensive
The ribeye, strip loin, tenderloin, T-bone, and Porterhouse steaks are the kind of high-end steaks that were talking about here. These incisions are made from muscles that are located high up on the animal and do not receive much action, which is why they are so delicate. However, these cuts of beef account for just 8% of the total beef carcass.

Where To Buy Meat In Bulk

Buying in bulk just means buying larger packs at cheaper prices, so it can mean buying bulk packs at your local supermarket and saving money compared to buying the smaller portions.
Besides your local supermarket, other places to look for bulk meat savings include:
- Local farmers markets or farm gate

Invest In A Whole Or Half Cow And Stock Your Freezer
While prices on ground beef may be about the same as what youd find for grass-fed ground beef in a grocery store, your best savings will be on steaks.
Heres what you can expect to see when you compare the cost of buying a cow with the cost of grass-fed beef at a grocery store like Kroger. Finished cut prices mean the cost of the beef after its been processed and packaged.
Much Higher Quality Product
If you are concerned that the meat at the bottom of the freezer wont taste as good as the meat at the top, according to the folks that set the standard for the safety of food in the U.S., the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service, If frozen at peak quality, thawed foods emerge tasting better than foods frozen near the end of their useful life. Our meats are frozen at peak quality.
They also say: In meat and poultry products, there is little change in nutrient value during freezer storage. This is great news because, according to one study, grass-finished beef has more monounsaturated fatty acids, which may raise HDL, or good, cholesterol levels. You are not losing out on valuable nutrients by having your meat frozen for months on end!
Our meat goes from hoof to your freezer with minimal stops along the way. Since your order is shipped frozen, theres less need to worry about bacteria build-up which could occur due to uneven refrigeration.

Build A Network Of Suppliers
Itâs crucial for those involved in wholesale purchases to have a good and reliable network of suppliers and manufacturers. The deliveries should be on time, the products are of a high standard, and your relationships should be honored. Building a network of bulk meat suppliers is what will help your business run smoothly.
In terms of meat, wholesale cuts are shipped from packing plants to the consumer. The consumer is then able to process the meat into smaller cuts as desired. Supplier relationships should be well maintained and positive so that you can have an established and sustainable brand.
About Our Custom Cuts
A custom animal is priced by the hanging or dressed weight, which means after the head, feet, and organs are removed. Getting Started With Buying Your Steak
The first step to buying a great steak is to look at the components we discussed in Part I of this guide, in order to determine your preferred cutwhether that be a ribeye, a tenderloin, a New York Strip, a sirloin, or a t-bone or porterhouse.
Second, you look at the flavor profile. Is it grass-fed is it grain-fed or maybe grain fed with grass finish? Of course the size and the thickness of the steak are also very important. Most grocery-store steaks are usually cut very thin, while most chefs prefer a 1- to 2-inch thickness. At the end of the day, you should choose something that youre comfortable cooking, because both can be over- and under-cooked. In our experience, we recommend slightly thicker cut steaks, as they preserve a bit of that nice pink area inside when prepared medium-rare.
