I do love the coarse texture of the store-bought version, so rather than using all ground spices, I opted for things like peppercorns, mustard seed, and coriander seed.

If you have a mortar and pestle or spice mill, thats great! If not, you can put your spices in a zip top bag and crush them with a heavy rolling pin, or the edge of a cast iron skillet. Thats what I did, and it worked great.

Yesterday afternoon, Tamas asked me if Id like to participate in one of our favorite Sunday rituals steaks for dinner! Usually, we invite Dad over for the occasion, but he already had plans. I am going to share a little secret with you:

Tamas and I have never grilled anything by ourselves before. Dad is always the supervisor because, well, were scared of grilling.its like, cooking outdoors?

I mean, I can make a mean breakfast over a campfire, but tell me to grill on a standard piece of equipment that everyone and their brother has already masteredand I get a little intimidated. Okay, we decided, no time like the present.

When we grill steaks, we usually make traditional sides some sort of potato and one or two veggie sides. This time, we chose this:

I am going to detail each of these parts separately so you can get the full run-down. Today I will start with the Marinated, Grilled Sirloin Steak.

We get this steak rub/marinade recipe from our good friend Javier. First time we ever had it, we knew we had to buy the same thing. Steak has never been this good. Recipe is as follows:

1-2 tablespoons seasoning per steak 1-2 tablespoons per steak of olive oilSteak

Note: No matter how long you have marinated them, take steaks out of the cold 15 minutes prior to grilling, to bring them to room temperature. This will ensure a more even cooking process.

Montreal Steak Seasoning: Tips & Tricks

Heres a few extra tricks to make your seasoning just a little more special.

  • Yield: Recipe makes roughly 1 cup.
  • Strong Smell: Beware that once you toast and blend the peppercorns its going to give an intense smell of pepper. Try to keep your face away from the blender when you initially open the lid. Trust me, youll be sneezing for a minute straight!
  • Label & Storage: I find that I like to store my seasoning in a glass jar. I also use paper washi tape to write on using a permanent marker, and stick on the mason jar. It is a removable tape that wont be forever stuck on your jar making it ideal for spice mixes that are store in glass jars.
  • Additions: Theres no one true Montreal steak seasoning recipe. Everyone puts their own twist on it, it seems! If youre looking for inspiration, try adding
  • Cayenne: For a true spicy kick.
  • Rosemary: To flavor, if youre a fan of the herb.
  • Other meats: Chicken and pork also taste fantastic doused in Montreal steak seasoning. Its really versatile!
  • Other dishes: Try this seasoning on vegetables of any kind and youll thank me. Breakfast foods like hash browns also take on a whole new dimension with Montreal steak seasoning. So, so good.
  • Should Steak Be Seasoned Before Frying

    Even if you sprinkle a little salty salt on both sides before you cook the steak, it does not do its job right just before you finish cooking. Prior to cooking the steak, you want to drain the water and make sure no one is doing anything wrong. If you place the steak to sit with the salt and it starts to become dry, then it is difficult to prepare.

    3 McCormick Grill Mates Montreal Steak Marinade 0.71 oz

    1 1/2 pounds beef*, pork or lamb 1. Mix Marinade Mix, oil, water and vinegar in small bowl. Reserve 2 tablespoons marinade for basting.

    1 Combine oil, soy sauce and Club House La Grille Montreal Steak Spice in a large self-closing plastic bag or glass dish. Add steak. Marinate in refrigerator at least 1 hour or longer for more flavor. 2 Remove steak from marinade discard marinade. Preheat grill or broiler.

    Mix ingredients together in bowl. Season steak on both sides with Montreal Steak Seasoning. Put steaks into mixture and coat. Allow to marinate for about an hour. Broil steak in oven for about 15 minutes, flipping every five minutes. This recipe brings out the real flavor of steak.

    1. Mix ingredients in a shallow dish. 2. Marinate 1 lb steak for 30 minutes, turning once. Note: Calculated calories assumes 2 tablespoons of the marinade will be discarded.
