Cutco Knives Reviews: Is It Really Worth It
Cutco knives, theres something youve got to know about them. When it comes to marketing their product, Cutco doesnt go the usual route. The company doesnt really rely on internet marketing, competitive pricing or ads. Instead, they opt for a more direct method. What Cutco does is they hire a bunch salespeople . What these salespeople would do is go and show the performance of the Cutco knives firsthand for their friends and relatives. The results speak for themselves. These demonstrations have succeeded in generating sales for the company, despite the relatively high price of the knives.
We should note though, that this approach can be misleading for the consumer. The matter of the fact is, Cutco doesnt seem to be the right fit for all kitchen enthusiasts. We cant deny that a set of Cutco knives can really elevate your cooking game, but we dont find that the result is worth the price tag in all cases. Now, were not saying you shouldnt turn a blind eye on this brand. All you have to do is examine your situation and find out exactly what your kitchen is missing. Thats how you come to determine the right knife for you.
Lets jump to the reviews!
The Vector Marketing Interview
Although the operational side of Cutco and their marketing division are not a scam , their sales and recruiting practices have been called into question.
Merriam-Webster defines a scam as a fraudulent or deceptive act or operation. Wikipedia defines a scam as a confidence trick or an attempt to defraud a person or group after first gaining their confidence.
When a Vector Marketing receptionist calls to recruit you as a sales rep for Cutco, they do it in a way designed to gain your confidence, and sell you an opportunity in what some might consider a deceptive manner.
Vector employs telemarketers to get you in for an interview. The official job title they use is a receptionist and there are different levels
The receptionist uses a carefully crafted script to gain your confidence.
Even the process of getting you on the phone is an actual procedure they refer to as 3Xs a day is the Champions Way.
The 3X means they must call you 3 times a day morning, afternoon and before they leave the office at the end of the day.
They are also instructed to call you twice in row, and if you answer the second time, a recruiter will work from a script
Hey thanks for picking up! I know its a little weird that I just called you twice weve just been so busy here and I wanted to make SURE that I got a hold of you right away because you or else I would have never gotten a hold of you.

Cutcos Forever Guarantee And Forever Sharpness Guarantee
Before we get to their knives, it is important to know that Cutco offers a Forever Guarantee.
It doesnt matter if your Grandmother originally purchased your Cutco knives and then handed it down to you, or if you received the knives as a wedding gift. If you are not satisfied with the performance of your knife at any time, you can return it to the company, and a company representative will correct the problem or replace the product.
This guarantee only applies if you use the knives conventionally. If you break your knives cutting something you probably shouldnt be, Cutco will replace them for half the cost, plus taxes. Damage due to unconventional use completely voids almost every other knife makers warranty, including Wusthof.
Cutco also offers a Forever Sharpness Guarantee. Customers can send their knives and a small fee to the company, and they will return your sharp knives to you.
The fee is nominal and is required to cover shipping. To have up to 10 knives sharpened, it only costs $9. If you send more than ten but less than 26 knives to be sharpened, the fee is $11, and up to 40 knives are $13. Not too shabby for practically brand new sharp edges.
In addition to their Forever Guarantee and Forever Sharpness Guarantee, Cutco knives also come with a 15-Day Unconditional Money Back Guarantee, which allows you to return your knives for any reason and get a full refund within the first 15 days of receipt.

Is Henckels Worth The Money
Henckels knives are the best value of any knife we have reviewed. While the Zwilling brand makes stamped and forged knives, the forged knives, in particular, compare favorably to the more expensive Wusthof knives. If you decide to go with a stamped knife, theres no reason to spend premium money, where Cutco is priced, when Zwilling J.A. Henckels makes a similar quality product.

Best Budget: Home Hero Steak Knives Set Of 8
With their dramatic design, this set of knives offers good looks and good performance at a great price. The knives have stainless steel blades, which are also available coated with a black nonstick finish, matching the black polypropylene handles. The deep, saw-like teeth in the blades are highly effective, cutting through meat effectively with a minimal tearing.
They’re comfortable to use, too: The handles are molded to fit ergonomically into the hand, and widen where the handle meets the blade, to act as a bolster.
But with such a great price, you can’t expect a lot of bells and whistles the set does not come with a case or with sheaths, which makes the finish even more susceptible to scratches over time. However, you’ll want to have them on hand at every dinner party, especially since they can be thrown in the dishwasher when your guests head home.

Cutco Knives Review: Are They Worth It
Cutco has a fairly unique business model. Instead of relying on smart pricing, good advertising, and great web presence, it uses a direct marketing approach. Cutco hires many salespeople, mostly college students, to visit their friends and family members and demonstrate how good their knives are in-person. The power of these demonstrations is enough to drive sales, even with the high price-tag on Cutco knives.
Unfortunately, however, these demonstrations can be deceiving. I dont think that Cutco is for everyone, no matter how nice their knives might seem. While there are definitely some upsides to Cutco products, I dont think the cost of these knives is justified in many kitchens. This doesnt mean you shouldnt buy a set of Cutco knives! Instead, you should carefully weigh your options and figure out what you actually want to use your knives for, then get the best knife for that purpose.
Lets check out some of their knives so I can describe how this works.
Where Do You Go From Here
Do you need an expensive set of kitchen knives? Do your friends or family need an expensive set of kitchen knives? Maybe you do, I’m certainly in no position to judge.
In most cases though, I think the answer is no .
Most people don’t need an expensive set of kitchen knives. They would be nice to have though.
Therefore, it’s not a product that sells itself . Making decent money selling Cutco requires some aggressive tactics and a lot of appointments. You’ll be hunting down leads, making a lot of calls, driving to a lot of different homes, and talking to a ton of people.
One big advantage to selling Cutco Knives though is that you won’t have to defend the product. It might not sell itself, but the quality does speak for itself and if you enjoy person-to-person sales it’s a product you can be proud to sell.
There’s no way around it though. Selling is all about running numbers and for the right person it’s a great career. Some people are also very helpful and ethical when it comes to sales.
Sales is hard work though, which is why many today are automating the process online. For those who don’t enjoy person-to-person sales, it’s possible to sell something once online sit back, and have it do all the work for you?
Okay, maybe sit back isn’t exactly accurate because it takes time to get to that point in the first place. But there is no question that the internet allows you to leverage and multiply your efforts in ways that in-person selling can’t.

Best Cutco Knives Alternative My Suggestion
Cutco knives are really not for everyone and I can say that there are better alternatives that are either for the same price or even cheaper. If you really like Cutco than go for it, there is nothing wrong about their products except higher price tag, but if you are looking for the best deal and highest quality/price ratio I would go for Wüsthof Gourmet Twelve Piece Block Set.
This set contains 1/2 Paring Knife, 3 Spear Point Paring Knife, 4 1/2 Utility Knife, Four 4 1/2 Steak Knives, 8 Bread Knife, 8 Cooks Knife, 9 Steel, Come-Apart Kitchen Shears and a 13-Slot Block. Wüsthof is known brand for high quality knives that are not overpriced and if you will not do anything really stupid with them and you do not look for anything special, these will be the only knives you need for everyday use in your kitchen. You do not need to buy several different products, but you get all the basic knives for everyday use in your kitchen and this is of course much cheaper than buying them separately.
If you prefer American-made knives than I can absolutely recommend Rada Cutlery. Their knives are high quality for much lower price than Cutco. What I do not like much about Rada are the handles, but if you are not someone who has knife in hand for many hours every day, like chefs in restaurants do, than I think it will not be a problem for you.
Best High End: Jean Dubost Laguiole Steak Knives With Olive Wood Handles Set Of 6
Beautiful and generous wedding gift idea
Periodic sharpening and oiling to maintain
There are Laguiole-style knives, and then there are Jean Dubost Laguiole knives. As you probably know, Laguiole is not a brand , but rather a style of knife from the Laguiole village in France. Originally, it was a high-quality carving utility knife where the blade folded into the handle. But the dependability and interest in this unique style prompted the Jean Dubost cutlery company to produce the first non-folding Laguiole-style knife intended for dining in 1987. Since then, the Jean Dubost Laguiole steak knives have been seen in dining rooms around the world.
This set of knives is an impressive addition to any flatware set, with olive wood handles that encase a full tang stainless steel blade. The top of the blade is decorated with the traditional vine-like design, and the set includes a convenient wooden box for storage. These knives also require a little extra care, including hand-washing, resharpening, and oiling the handles.

Making Money Selling Cutco Knives
Cutco has a high employee turnover rate. One reason is because they are aggressively recruiting people who were not looking for a sales job in the in the first place. People, 85% college aged, sign up reluctantly. And, once they realize what they’ve got themselves into, feel buyers remorse.
Another reason is because people just dont like to sell. They especially dont like selling to their family and friends, which Cutco encourages.
The opportunity is made to sound great, so of course they get excited, and fantasize about the freedom and earning potential. But they lose interest quickly when they realize it’s a lot tougher than it sounds.
Sales, particularly in-home sales, is not an easy game. It requires a unique personality, an uncommon energy and the ability to handle regular doses of rejection.
While some people are suited to it, and will certainly make money selling Cutco Cutlery, the majority are not.
It’s true, hard work can be a game-changer, but as someone who spent 10 years in B2B sales, and a few more doing both Amway and insurance sales I feel compelled to say, DO NOT beat yourself up if sales is not for you.
Seriously I spent many years, feeling guilty and miserable because I refused to accept that I hated my career. I made selling my life, but it was actually a distraction that made me intensely unhappy, steered me away from the career I actually wanted, and it even ruined some relationships.
The Reason Behind The Price
The things that make the Cutco products so expensive, in a nutshell, are clear and simple. First of all, this is a brand that manufactures its products in America. Also, the selling format was made to give the seller a separate amount of profit. Besides that, theres the obvious reason of the warranty. Having to uphold such an idealistic promise can cost quite a bit. So, they cost to make, the price includes the payment of the seller, and the warranty deal needs to be backed up by an increase in the price tag.
And while this may seem like a weird business model, it has worked quite well for Cutco because of all the good word of mouth. In the end, the question to be asked isnt Are Cutco products good? but Are Cutco brands suitable for my needs?. And If the answer to the question is yes, then the price tag is quite justified.
Youll have to take in all of the factors that weve discussed. You should consider your financial state as well as what kind of necessities is your kitchen missing. Having all the items that you need yet wanting to replace them with Cutco products for no apparent reason isnt a very good move. But filling an emptiness in the kitchen with a Cutco product can be quite the smart move, considering their longevity and durability. The product list may deal with ups and downs, but there are definitely some gems in there.

Upgrade Pick: Wsthof Classic Ikon Set
*At the time of publishing, the price was $300.
Our testers all favored the Ikon’s classic understated elegance.
The Wüsthof Classic Ikon steak knives arent cheap, but they are the cheapest of the three high-end sets that we tested. With little to distinguish between the high-end sets on performancewhich was universally exceptionalaesthetics played the largest role in this pick, and our testers all favored the Ikon’s classic, understated elegance. Their razor-sharp blades have the ideal upswept shape. The unique double-concave curves of their satiny black POM handles fit the hand wonderfully both our smallest and our largest tester found them the most comfortable to hold of all the knives we tested. Their full-tang construction adds strength and, at 77 grams/2.6 ounces, pleasing heft. Lastly, their construction is flawlessas it should be for the price. Because in truth, its the flawless fit-and-finish, more than anything else, that separates an exceptional luxury steak knife from a really great mid-priced oneand that you pay for.
One criticism: the Ikons come in a simple, clear plastic box. Its sturdy enough to use for knife storage but left us wishing for something more distinguished-looking, particularly if the knives are intended to be a gift. For about $100 more, the blackwood-handled Ikon steak knives come in a walnut case its unfortunate that this is not an option for the standard model.
