Letting The Steak Rest

The Best Way to Grill Steak

Perhaps the most important tip that I can give you is to allow the steak to rest after grilling it. Allowing the steak to rest brings a lot of magic to the steak.

After you have cooked the steak, letting it rest will bring back the juices into the meat. I always do this for at least 8 minutes and can even sometimes go for 15 minutes.

This depends on the thickness of the steak as well. The thicker the steak, the longer the resting period so that the juices settle properly into the meat.

Every time I do this, the steak runs juicy with a clear liquid once I cut through it. It is a satisfying look and you will instantly know that the steak is cooked to perfection.

This is all you need to know when you want to grill a tomahawk/ sirloin steal on a gas grill.

How To Grill Steak Perfectly

First you are going to want to pick your cut of meat. Now, everyone loves a good filet mignon, I am not exception. The other go-to is a New York Strip classic. But, my absolute favorite is a ribeye. There is just enough fat marbled through it that it marinates itself as it cooks and stays incredibly moist and tender. The flavor is amazing. It is my go-to. Go grab a 1 inch ribeye for you and whoever else you are having over..

But Filet Mignon is hard to beat!

Next, after you go out and grab your cut of meat, you are going to want to let it come to room temp before you season your meat. Just salt and pepper people. You dont need to reinvent the wheel. But first, take a fork and pierce the meat all over fat and everything. Then sprinkle with salt and ground black pepper on both sides enough that it will be nicely seasoned, but not over-powered with either.

You can also if you want always fun to mix things up!

After you have cleaned your grill thoroughly with your brush, spray it with a grill-worthy non-stick spray and then turn it up to 450-500.

Place steak over direct heat to sear let it stay over direct heat for 3-4 minutes. Flip and sear an additional 3-4 minutes on the other side. If you are cooking a fattier meat, like a ribeye, you will probably want to move the steak over to indirect heat at this time. Leaner meats, like a New York Strip or Filet should be left over direct heat the entire time.

Should A Steak Be Room Temperature Before Grilling

Before grilling, steaks should be allowed to come to room temperature. They will cook much more quickly than cold steaks. Cold steaks will shrink more on the grill and release more liquids, which will result in less taste in your steaks after they are cooked. What temperature should a steak be cooked to on the inside?

Additional Tips On How Long To Grill Steak:

  • For best results, we recommend defrosting beef in the refrigerator, not at room temperature.
  • Dry your steaks thoroughly with a paper towel before grilling. Your goal in grilling is to grill the steak not evaporate any water moisture thats on the exterior of the beef. If youre going to use your own rub or traditional salt-and-pepper, thats even better and the moisture will evaporate with the rub.
  • Preheat your grill about 20 minutes before you start cooking. You want your grill to be hot so that when you place the meat on the grill rack it will sear on contact, not stick.Tip: If you dont know your grills temperature, you can use your hand to help gauge the heat. Place your open palm about 5 inches above the grill rack and start to count the number of seconds you can hold your hand in that place before moving your hand. If the fire is hot, youll move your hand in 2 seconds. You will be able to keep your hand there for about 5 seconds if its medium heat. If its a low temperature, you will move your hand in about 10 seconds.
  • Remove the steaks from the grill when they reach your desired temperature. Use a meat thermometer! Its the only real way to tell if meat is done.
  • Your steaks will continue to cook after you take them off the grill.
  • Make sure you let the meat rest. Not resting meat is one of the biggest mistakes people make with steak. If you dont let meat rest and you cut into it immediately, your plate will be full of steak juice and your steak will be drier.

When it comes to grilling steak, there are a lot of different schools of thought out there about the best way to do it. Some people say that you should always sear your steak before cooking it, regardless of what kind of grill youre using. Others say that searing is only necessary if youre using a charcoal or gas grill, but that its not necessary when cooking with a pellet grill. So, whats the verdict? The truth is, it really depends on your personal preferences. If you like your steak to have a nice, crispy sear on the outside, then youll definitely want to sear it before cooking. On the other hand, if you prefer a more tender, juicy steak, then you may not want to sear it at all. If youre undecided, we recommend trying both methods and seeing which you prefer. Sear your steak before cooking on a pellet grill, and see how you like it. If you find that you dont like the sear, or if its not as crispy as youd like, then try cooking your steak without searing it first. You may be surprised at how much juicier and more tender it is.

Grilling ribeye steaks involves trimming the fat and seasoning them with neutral oil and seasoning. Simply salt and pepper can be used to go with your chosen seasoning. Grill your steaks directly on the grill grate for 6 minutes at 500 degrees Fahrenheit, letting them sit for about 15 minutes before flipping. In a 350 degree oven, cook steaks until they reach an internal temperature of 132 degrees Fahrenheit.

Remember that just like with the microwave, cooking steak too fast and at too high a temperature will dry it out.
