Best Overall: Shun Premier 4

Shun’s Premier line of steak knives puts the meaning behind the phrase, cutting “like a hot knife through butter.” They really do effortlessly slice through even tougher cuts, with the lightest of pressure and very little sawing motion. Meat is cut cleanly with absolutely no tearing, which is ideal for very rare cuts so juices will stay intact.

Their performance is in part due to its construction: The knives are crafted with Damascus cladding, where micro-thin layers of metal are stacked and welded together creating a lightweight blade that’s also durable and can be sharpened to a razor-thin edge. This construction also contributes to the knives’ beauty: Damascus construction is indicated by the rippling, watery pattern on the side of the blades. The handles are equally well-designed made of polished Pakkawood , they feel sleek and are tapered a bit at either end so they fit nicely in the hand. It’s lightweight but well balanced in the hand. The handles are thick enough that it would be comfortable to use for someone with larger hands, and the width of the blade gives plenty of clearance for the knuckles.

Made by Kai Corporation, a cutlery company with roots in Japan’s knife-making tradition, the knives come in a hinged wooden storage box.

Runner Up Dalstrong Steak Knives Set

Hot on the heels of the Wüsthof set, our close runner up selection by Dalstrong is ideal if youre looking for a steak knife set with a more traditional look and a straight-edge blade.

While this brand is rather young, they are certainly up-and-coming , having made a huge splash in the knife-making world thanks to their excellent quality combined with great value for money.

Dalstrong even offers a full money-back guarantee if you are not fully satisfied!

This set consists of four steak knives, complete with protective sheaves. While they lack a presentation box as such, they are still very well presented and would make a beautiful gift for the foodie in your life.

The blades are full tang, ensuring balance and an excellent product lifespan. Made from Thyssenkrupp German steel, renowned for its high-quality, each five-inch blade is hand sharpened to ensure a premium cutting experience.

These knives will make light work of any cut of meat, no matter how tough or overcooked. The rock hollow dimples on each blade ensure that your sliced cuts fall off the blade smoothly.

This set also features traditional style wooden handles complete with three rivets. Like the blades, the handles are also made from premium materials, in this case, black pakkawood sourced in Spain.

Laminated for easy care and extra durability, the handles feel good in your hand and their shape is comfortable to hold and balances easily.

Which Steak Knife Is Better Serrated Or Straight

In terms of steak knives, sharp blades have historically been the traditional ones. Sea scallop holders believe that serrated edges are meant to make their knives sharper and to stay sharper longer than straight-edged ones because they cut through their food at a point that makes little to no contact with the edge of the scallops plates.

Top 10 Best Steak Knives in 2020 Reviews

4.1/5Here are the top five qualities of a good steak knife:

  • Sharp, recessed cutting edge: This type of edge will make smooth, even cuts and will stay sharper longer.
  • Triple rivet construction: Provides good balance and strength for cutting through even the thickest steak.

So here is my list of The 10 Best Steak Knives.

  • Bellemain Premium Stainless Steel Steak Knives.
  • Dalstrong Gladiator Series Steak Knives.
  • J.A. Henckels International Stainless Steel Steak Knives.
  • Wusthof Stainless Steel Steak Knives.
  • AmazonBasics Premium Steak Knives.

One may also ask, what do you use steak knives for? Steak knives are sharp table knives that are used for cutting steak. They often come with a wooden handle and a serrated blade. Steak knives are the only sharp knife that you‘ll find in a modern kitchen table. You‘ll want to use a steak knife when you‘re eating finer meats.

Consequently, are serrated steak knives better?

Serrated Steak KnivesTraditionally, serrated blades have been the most common choice for steak knives. They believe serrated edges make for a sharper blade and will stay sharp longer than straight-edged blades since the edges between the scallops never touch their plates .

Best For Table Settings: Misen Serrated Knives

Misen’s serrated blades are comfortable and affordable if you’re looking to outfit your table for hosting family and friends for dinner. Hundreds of Misen users have complimented the brand’s usefulness and great price.

“Recently we bought Misen knives for cooking and liked them very much, so we decided to try the steak knivesat a small fraction of the cost of our Shun’s. We love them! The sharpness is as good as any and I hope will last longer.”

The Misen reviewer also liked the handle’s grip, as well as the decor aspect, “The discrete edges give a tactile feel to where the knife is, rather than the nebulous round handles of the Shun’s,” they wrote. “We love the blue color, which is subtle but stands out enough to get a comment every time.”

Zwilling Profesional S 18 Piece Knife Set

Specifications

Made in Germany and Spain
Great Balance
Limited Lifetime Warranty

Set includes the following: one 2.75 birds beak peeling knife, one 2.75 trimming knife, one 4 paring knife, one 5 serrated utility knife, one 5 hollow edge santoku, one 8 bread knife, one 8 chefs knife, eight 4.5 steak knives, one 9 sharpening steel, one pair of kitchen shears, and a bamboo storage block

The Professional S knives are one of Zwilling Henckels premium series. They are similar to the Zwilling Pro series knives, but they have a more traditional blade profile compared to the Pro Series more curved blade. The Professional S series also has a full bolster while the Pro Series has a half bolster. The bolster is the section of the knife where the handle meets the blade. The bolsters gives the Professional S series knives better balance and act as a hand guard to protect the hand from slipping onto the blade. However, the bolster does make it a little more difficult to sharpen the back of the blade. My biggest complaint about the Professional S series is the name. It is so similar to the Pro series that it causes confusion.

The Profesional series knives are made in Solingen, Germany except for the steak knives which are made in Spain. Solingen is one of the two most famous knife making cities in the world. The other is Seki, Japan.

Tyrellex: Cheaper But Still Good

Mostly sold online, it was very difficult to get any real information on these other than they cut well, and seem to have very good reviews. After much searching, they appear to be of Chinese manufacture, with 8cr13MOV stainless steel, full-tang blades. 8cr13MOV is a good cutlery steel from China, superior to 420j in most respects, and equal to AUS 8. If you remember history, steel was originally invented in China, and while they do make some really sorry steel for low-end knives, they also make some that is as good as any made anywhere else in the world. 8cr13MOV is one of the better ones. These knives take a great edge, hold it reasonably well, and sharpen easily. The scales are made of pakkawood with a matte finish, which I actually prefer over a gloss finish. It lets the natural beauty of the wood show. The set I looked at had a great feel and fit, and the weight was just right. I would rate them at least as good as the Victorinox set, maybe even a little nicer. The price is right for a set of 6, with a beautiful and well-made wooden presentation box, I dont see how you could miss with these. Oh, and they come with a lifetime replacement warranty. What more could you ask for at that price?

How can you go wrong with an 8-piece stainless steel steak knife set made by J.A. Henckels International? Another leader since 1895, the Henckels brand has represented the best in German steel design and quality in cutlery.

Designed for the value conscious, they offer a lifetime warranty on their products against defects in workmanship or materials. These serrated-edged, spear-tipped blades are sharp and the stainless steel construction guarantees easy cleanup. While listed as dishwasher safe, however, stainless steel does not inherently last over time in a dishwasher due to the harsh chemicals in dishwasher detergents.

Top Tips For Cooking The Perfect Ribeye Steak:

  • Bring the steak to room temperature before you cook it – take your steak out of the fridge an hour to an hour and a half before you plan to cook it. Remove the packaging and place it on a board. This ensures the steak cooks evenly.
  • Season the steak generously before cooking – it may seem like you are adding a lot of salt at this point, but don’t worry it will remain on the surface of the steak and enable an even crust to form.
  • Make sure the pan is red hot before cooking the steak – place your pan on the highest heat and do not add the steak until the pan is smoking hot. You can test whether the pan is hot enough to start cooking by adding a small drop of water. If it forms beads the pan is ready.
  • Let the steak rest – the juices that are released during the cooking process need a little time to re-absorb themselves into the steak. If you cut into the steak too soon, you will lose all these wonderful juices and be left with a dry steak. Let the steak rest for 10 minutes to ensure it is moist and juicy.

Fn Sharp Tips How To Care For Your Steak Knives

In most households, steak knives are treated much differently than the knives used for prep. Theyre often tossed in drawers and dishwashers with the rest of the silverware and not many people ever think to have them sharpened . The truth is, steak knives go dull as well, leaving your dinner guests to saw and rip through their steak as if working out was part of the dinner deal.

Instead, try to follow these tips:

      • Be nice to your steak knives by making sure you take care of them.
      • Always wash your knives by hand if you can, and be sure to thoroughly wipe them dry.
      • Take notice of the signs of a dull knife, and if your knives arent performing as well as they should, then its time to get them sharpened.
      • Dont throw them in that drawer! Instead, invest in some proper knife storage, like in-drawer knife blocks or you can grab one of our handy magnetic knife blocks and keep all of your knives safe and in one place!

Steak knives are great to have for any meal that features steak, chops, or other thick cuts of meat because theyre a little difficult to cut neatly with the regular cutlery that comes with your flatware. They can also come in handy in the kitchen for slicing tomatoes or cutting a sandwich neatly in half. There are two basic styles of steak knives. Serrated knives are more common and stay sharp longer and cut easily but can be difficult to sharpen at home. Straight-edged knives are easier to sharpen but lose their edge a little faster.

If you only bring out the steak knives for special occasions, sharpening may never be an issue. If you toss the knives into a drawer and use them daily like utility knives, sharpening will be required more often. While expensive knives will last longer, budget knives can be replaced every few years to add a different style to the table. Here, find the best steak knives for your specific needs.

To hold a steak knife while eating, one should grip it in their dominant hand with the index finger placed on the base of the knife.
