Where Does Kansas City Steaks Source Their Meats

All of the food that Kansas City Steaks sells comes from National Beef, which has locations throughout Kansas. The beef comes from U.S. Premium Beef, with ranchers across 37 different states. Its not clear whether the cattle the steaks come from are actually from Kansas City or even Kansas.

On the Kansas City Steak Company website, they dont make it clear where any of the other meat comes from. On their All About Steak page, they are pretty vague about the source of their meat, only stating they source from tight cattle supply from producers with known and approved management methods.

Kansas City Steaks Review

Theres nothing like a satisfying, juicy steak. Hearty and filling, the brand offers a variety of cuts of steak, but well be going through its bestselling ones here, along with a few other special types of meats, sides, and bundles.

Lets start with the king of cuts, the Prime Rib Roast.

When a prime rib is on the menu, theres cause for celebration. Its one of the best cuts of beef, is next-level tender, and packed with flavor. The Kansas City Steaks Prime Rib Roast comes in three sizes:

  • 3.5-4 lb Roast
  • 4-4.5 lb Roast
  • 5.5-6 lb Roast

With gorgeous marbling of fat, this tasty, juicy roast is trimmed to optimize cost and texture. If youre not a fan of bones, dont worry, this roast is boneless. Its been aged for 28 days to pump up the flavor, but if youd like a little extra seasoning sprinkle with the Original Steak Seasoning packet included with your order.

Available for purchase in quantities of one or two, the luxury Kansas City Steaks Prime Rib Roastis $80-$240.

Kansas City Steaks Top Sirloin Steak

Sirloin is one of the most flavorful cuts of beef when prepared correctly. Your order comes with a free Kansas City Steak Book to help make sure you get the most out of your meal.

Available in a variety of sizes and quantities, enjoy this hearty steak for:

  • 5 oz: 8 ct $80
  • 6 oz: 4 ct $70 8 ct $100
  • 8 oz: 4 ct $85 8 ct $120

Does One Have Better Customer Support

From our research, the customer service support for both of these mail order steak product companies may be way above average. They both have received an A+ rating from the BBB.

They both offer a satisfaction guarantee more than anything else, so if anything is not to your liking, you can call them for a refund or exchange. We found it slightly more difficult to get a hold of a customer rep at Omaha Steaks when we sent a message.

Kansas City Steak Company Cons

Kansas City Strip Steak : Kansas City Steaks
  • Its expensive. I found Kansas City Steak Company to be one of the most expensive meat delivery companies weve ordered from.
  • The ordering process was a pain. In my opinion, their ordering process is very confusing and almost led to me paying more for items rather than getting the discounted rate.
  • The cooking instructions were not that clear. I found the cooking booklet was a bit confusing to read and the section that tells you how to cook the steak doesnt have spacing between the words.
  • Im not a fan of the packaging. First, its all styrofoam, which is terrible for the environment. Second, the boxes that hold the food are not cushioned, which led to our brookies dessert getting a little smashed while in transit.
  • The flavor of the steaks and some sides could have been better. Especially considering we paid close to $90 for 4 steaks.

Do They Offer Any Guarantees

They Kansas City Steaks offers a complete satisfaction guarantee for customers. You’ll read on the website that if you aren’t completely satisfied with your steaks for any reason, you can request a replacement or a refund. The nice thing about this is that you have 45 days to claim your purchased item, which is better than companies with similar new guarantees.

Kansas City Steak Company Pros

  • They offer a ton of variety. Between the different cuts of meat, different types of meat, sides, appetizers, desserts, and gift bundles, they are up there with Omaha Steaks in terms of the amount of food they have available to purchase.
  • Some foods were very delicious. The steak fries and brookies desserts were absolutely delicious.
  • They have a great money back guarantee. If youre unhappy, you can contact them and they will refund your money or replace the items youre unhappy with.

Differences In Shipping & Delivery

Kansas City Steak Company (4) or (8) 8oz. Beef Wellington on QVC

Omaha Steaks offers a larger delivery area since they ship to all 50 states, Canada, and Puerto Rico. For the other service provider, the delivery place only includes the US.

When we got our gift card order from the website for delivery, both product providers use a styrofoam cooler packaging and frozen dry ice. The dry ice wasnt melted upon delivery, just like how we wanted the dry ice to be while on travel.

We thought they both had fairly similar shipping costs, but Kansas City Steak Company offers a few dollars less.

What Makes Kansas City Steaks Different

Kansas City Steaks claims that it is the flavor of its meat that differentiates it from others. While we can attest to the fact that its products really are as tasty as advertised, we believe that there are several other aspects of this service that are worthy of praise.

First of all, it is known for exceptional flexibility in terms of ordering, which is something we value greatly. The absence of minimum order limitations is not that common and we like the fact that subscriptions are available but entirely optional.

Second, while the volume of its business does not allow it to limit its partner network to small family farms, it never compromises on quality and aims to meet and exceed the highest industry standards. It sources its meat from the most reputable Kansas stockyards and gives it a lot of TLC through its careful wet-aging process, meticulous trimming, and other methods that ensure complete customer satisfaction.

Speaking of satisfaction, we love companies that stand behind their products and Kansas City Steaks is one of them. In case you are not thoroughly impressed by the quality of the items you receive, you can get your money back, no questions asked.

The Steaks section includes such cuts like filet mignon, Kansas City strip steak, ribeye, porterhouse, top sirloin, T-bone, steakburgers, tips, medallions, and prime rib. You can opt for grass-fed, USDA Prime, American-style Kobe beef, sandwich steaks, pre-seasoned steaks, and Kansas City classics.

What To Know About Cooking

One of the big issues Emily and I ran into with Kansas City Steak Company was the cooking process. They give you a booklet that has all of the information needed to make everything from cooking your steaks to heating up the premade dishes.

When we went to cook the steak, we followed the directions outlined in the booklet since we wanted to make sure we were doing everything correctly so they would come out as delicious as possible.

Unfortunately, the was that the booklet lays out the steps, you have to jump between different pages for different steps. For example, on page 10 it tells us the partial instructions for cooking the steak on a skillet. Then you have to jump to page 12 to see how long you need to cook the steak. But on page 12, they have different cooking instructions at the top of the page.

But the most irritating part was that some of the steps dont have spacing between the words. I found it to be pretty tough to actually follow the directions properly because of this.

Key Difference Between Kansas City Steaks & Omaha Steaks

The main difference between the two delivery services is in their sourcing practices. Kansas City Steak Company sources 100% grass-fed beef for steaks, while Omaha Steaks finishes their cattle on grain for years.

The Kansas City Steak Company also appears to have USDA Prime, while Omaha Steaks labels their meat cut deals as agency-inspected. Both serve other items such as pork, ham, seafood, plus free-range chicken, based on reviews of Omaha Steaks.

They sure seem to have more game options, including bison and veal cut.

We had even heard rumors that Kansas City steaks were expensive. Still, when we tried out some popular ribeyes and American-style filet mignons a day ago, Omaha Steaks’ deals ended up being more costly in the cart, and it’s something that we’re not used to.

Omaha Steaks & Butcherbox Sourcing Practices

We noted above that Omaha Steaks use more choices. But, ButcherBox has better choices if you are on the carnivore diet. I’m a fan of their heritage pork box and breakfast sausage. They offer top-notch grass-fed beef steaks and other beef cuts.

To name a few of the best options are chuck roast, sirloin steaks, beef burgers, strip steaks, bacon, and filet mignon. For fish and seafood lovers, I’ve found their sockeye salmon to be a real treat.

Overall, ButcherBox subscription has a wide variety of meats to choose from. You won’t find yourself tiring as it’s easy to mix and match your custom meal box and purchase it. It won’t even take up much of your time. Just don’t forget to use the paper towels.

Kansas City Steak Company Meat Grading

Thankfully, Kansas City Steak Company shares their USDA grading more than Omaha Steaks does.

The beef they sell is primarily USDA choice and USDA prime.

If youre unfamiliar, heres a brief look at the main USDA grades of beef:

  • Prime beef is from young, well-fed cattle. It generally has a lot of fat or marbling.
  • Choice beef is high quality but has less fat than prime beef.
  • Select beef is the leanest beef.
  • Standard and Commercial grades of beef are usually sold as ungraded or as store brand meat.

These grades are important to see since they allow you to know the type and quality of the meat. In my experience, they allow you to cut through all the marketing lingo that a lot of meat delivery companies use.

About Kansas City Steak Company

Kansas City Steaks (12) or (24) 1.4-oz Mini Beef Wellingtons on QVC

They first started out in 1932 as a family-owned butcher shop called S& S Meat Company.

They ended up growing in popularity and becoming a meat supplier for big retail businesses such as Outback Steaks and Carrabbas.

In 1984 they shifted focus and decided to venture into the mail order steak business, something that Omaha Steaks pioneered years prior. What eventually launched their mail order business was a deal with QVC to promote their products.

Since then, they have partnered with National Beef, who is the meat supplier for their Kansas City Steak Company online business. This means if you purchase from their online store, while the brand name is Kansas City Steak Company, the meat youre getting is actually from National Beef.

Kansas City Steak Company Vs The Competition

Its likely you probably already know that Omaha Steaks is the biggest competitor to Kansas City Steak Company. Both are very similar in terms of what they offerbetween steaks, different cuts of meats, gift bundles, and even their websites.

However, there are a ton of lesser-known meat delivery services out there these days that also provide a similar service. Heres a look at some of them and how they differ from Kansas City Steaks:

  • Snake River Farms: Known for their American wagyu beef, Snake River Farms offers a similar service to Kansas City Steak Company but focus more on the higher end meats. What I like about Snake River Farms is that they control their entire supply chain, which means more control over the quality of the meat.
  • Crowd Cow: Like Kansas City Steak Company, Crowd Cow has a ton of variety in terms of meats, sides, and desserts. They sell all the same types of meat in addition to game meat such as boar, duck, and elk. Crowd Cow also sells plant-based meats.
  • Porter Road: When it comes to high-quality meat, its hard to beat Porter Road. I love that they do not freeze their meats when they send them as to not compromise the quality and flavor of the meat.
  • Rastellis: Rastellis is one of my personal favorite meat delivery companies. They offer all the same meats and cuts as Kansas City Steak Company as well as many precooked meat options . What I like most is that theyre very open and transparent about their sourcing practices.
