What Is The Difference Between American Wagyu And Japanese Wagyu

The main difference between American and Japanese wagyu beef is the way in which the cattle are raised. Japanese wagyu cows are raised on a diet of elements such as rice, soybean, hay and grain for over 650 days whereas American wagyu cows are raised for just over 400 days on a simpler diet of corn and wheat.

Not only is there a difference between raising patterns, but to be qualified as wagyu in Japan, is a much harder process than in the US. This may be because Japan is the birthplace of wagyu meat and so they are wanting to preserve the legacy of producing quality cattle.

About Our A5 Kagoshima Wagyu Striploin

Sourced from the Japanese Black cow in Kagoshima, Japan, Imperia Caviars authentic wagyu beef striploin will provide you with an exceptional culinary experience. Kagoshima offers a warm tropical island atmosphere, optimal for raising Japanese Black cattle. This prefecture produces some of the most exquisite beef in the world.

Cows from Kagoshima receive the highest standard of treatment from dedicated ranchers who have spent their lives perfecting the ideal environment for quality wagyu. Cows are cared for on small farms, allowing ranchers to give each cow the respect and affection they deserve.

All wagyu steaks are scored on their quality. Of all the countries that grade wagyu, Japan has the most stringent standards. They seek to preserve the superior genetics of the beef and its quality by grading their steaks severely, using a system with levels that range from one to five. For beef to earn an A5 rating, the highest grade a cut can receive, it must have the top rankings in four factors:

Japanese A5 Wagyu is a luxurious, sumptuous cut of meat. Our Japanese A5 Wagyu New York Strip Steak is decadent, intensely marbled and packed with distinctive umami tastes. Along with its rich flavor profile, this cut also contains omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, making it a nutritional powerhouse.

Why Is Japanese Wagyu So Special

Japanese Wagyu Sirloin Steak 500gr

The Japanese government holds Wagyu cattle to the strictest standards in the world. Each head of cattle has their nose print taken after birth to keep track of its lineage. These types of cattle started as beasts of burden. Once it was discovered that their meat had such amazing fat that allowed it to braise from the inside out, the cows were no longer prized just for their physical endurance.

For 600 days, the cows are fed a specialized diet that includes fresh grass, alfalfa and rice straw to ensure consistency and flavor.

Due to the rich and bold taste of the Wagyu steak, we recommend going for lighter sides such as grilled or roasted vegetables.

You will easily feel overwhelmed with the meal if you add heavy-tasting sides like mashed potatoes.

And since we are having a really nice Japanese beef, pair it with some quality Japanese sake or red wine to fully complete the experience!

The Grand Western Steaks Wagyu Beef Difference

You dont have to travel to Japan to devour authentic Japanese Wagyu. Grand Western Steaks offers several premium selections of Japanese Wagyu to transform your next meal or family gathering into an event. You and your loved ones will experience a premium selection of beef that is revered throughout the world for its delectable in-depth flavor and intricate marbling.

How Do You Cook Japanese Wagyu Beef

Season your steak with your salt and freshly ground pepper. Wagyu is already flavourful and tender enough so you won’t need extra seasoning. Then, place your steak into a hot pan on a high setting and cook for 3 minutes on one side and two minutes on the other. This allows the fat to render while still locking in those delicious juices. Leave to rest once done from 5-20 minutes, depending on the size, and enjoy !

Experience Japanese A5 Wagyu & Australian Wagyu

Japanese Meat Grading Association, JMGA, grades the beefs ranking quality and yield based on fat marbling, texture, color, firmness, brightness and fat quality. More marbling means a tender, creamier texture, and is what wagyu beef connoisseurs highly prize. The higher the Beef Marble Standard score the more expensive the beef. The Top Tier on the Japanese scale, a BMS of 8 to 12, is denoted A5.

Australian Wagyu is the result of breeding a 100% full-blooded Wagyu Sire and an Angus Dam. An F1 Crossbred or First Crossbred Generation is 50% Wagyu Genetics. Taking advantage of their reputation and experience in the cattle industry, Australian ranchers introduce the very best genetics through an F2 and F3 crossbreeding with up 87% Wagyu Genetics. They created something new and unique to a market looking for something rare and exclusive under their former Brand F1″ and now call Wagyu X.

Just as the Japanese Beef, Australian Beef tenderness, juiciness and richness is determined by BMS. Australian grading score scale tops out at 9 with everything above it denoted as 9+ in some cases.

At Grand Western Steaks, we pride ourselves on bringing premium quality and cuts to your table. Our butchers are experts in determining the kind of beef, its origins and how it was raised to deliver the food/culinary experiences you deserve. Japanese Wagyu Beef Ribeye Boneless Steak A5

Though the terms Kobe and wagyu are often used interchangeably, especially for marketing purposes in the U.S., they do mean different things. Wagyu is a Japanese phrase that translates to Japanese cattle the word wa means Japanese and gyu”means cow.

In Japan there are four wagyu breeds: the Japanese Black, the Japanese Brown , Japanese Shorthorn, and the Japanese Polled. Kobe beef comes from a specific breed of cow, the Japanese Black, raised in the Hyogo Prefecture region of Japan, where the city of Kobe is. Thus, all Kobe beef is wagyu beef, but not all wagyu beef is Kobe beef.
