Best: Omaha Steaks Private Reserve Rack Of Lamb

The meat masters at Omaha Steaks crafted this dish with flavorful vengeance. Only the best cuts of meat make it into Omaha’s Private Reserve club. Each piece of this lamb dish is hand-picked and aged for almost a month for premium meat perfection. According to Omaha Steaks, the Private Reserve Rack of Lamb offers a “deep earthy flavor” and provides an exquisite “melt-in-your-mouth texture” it’s no wonder this dish has nothing but five-star ratings.

Good lamb takes time, and to quote NPR’s feature on lamb shanks, “good things come to those who wait.” For Omaha Steaks’ lamb rack, they recommend coating the lamb with garlic, butter, salt and pepper and placing it on a rack in a shallow pan. Once this voluptuous meat is cooked to your liking, season lamb roast with chopped parsley and enjoy.

And if you’re still not sold, listen to Liz from Mississippi, who wrote that the Private Reserve Rack of Lamb `was the best lamb I’ve had in a very long time! VERY tender I could have used a butter knife to cut it!”

Let the masters of meat do what they do best: serve you some of the best seasoned meat in the entire country.

Worst: Omaha Steaks Lemon Garlic Shrimp Single Serve Meal

Shrimp is usually a celebrated and extremely versatile seafood dish that packs a flavorful punch when added to any meal. Unfortunately Omaha Steak’s pre-cooked, single-serve Lemon Garlic Shrimp falls a bit flat for its customers, who found the dish expensive and lacking in portion size. We don’t expect much from a shrimp-based seafood dish with a 3.7-star rating, but for having a reputation for providing high-quality meats, we wanted more from Omaha Steaks.

Shrimp may be one of most consumed seafood in the U.S. , but it might lose its luster if it has to travel across the country before hitting your dinner table. Scarfing down too many of these suckers also pose certain health risks. According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, shrimp are low in fat and calories but surprisingly high in cholesterol. And according to Consumer Reports, most of the shrimp imported into the U.S. is farmed or grown in man-made ponds, where the shrimp are often fed pellets containing antibiotics to help ward off disease, and these pellet-fed shrimp inevitably end up in our bellies. Also, if these ponds aren’t properly cared for, toxic chemicals and fecal matter can accumulate can you say gross?

Chocolate Molten Lava Cakes

This dessert was incredible. If you watched the video above, youll see when we cut into the cake the molten chocolate inside literally pours out. It was very decadent and rich without being overly sweet. Emily and I actually had to split one between ourselves because, while small, theyre very filling.

Omaha Steaks Is A True Rags To Riches Story

Bring an iconic Southern comfort food to your family kitchen with our ...

Believe it or not, Omaha Steaks hasn’t always been the meat industry mainstay it is today. The Omaha Steaks story begins not in Omaha, Nebraska, but actually in Riga, Latvia, during the 19th century. When the Simon family fled Latvia due to fervent antisemitism in the country, they eventually wound up in Omaha, where they were among the first waves of Jewish people to make their way into the city, according to Tablet Magazine, a Jewish cultural magazine.

The Simon family patriarch J.J. Simon and his son B.A. worked together as butchers which was the family trade back in their European homeland founding the Table Meat Supply Company in downtown Omaha in 1917. The company grew in popularity among local Omahans, and eventually changed its name to Omaha Steaks in 1966 as the company expanded out to sell their product in other states via the Union Pacific Railroad.

More than a hundred years after Omaha Steaks’ first inception as a company, the food delivery service has grown all across the nation, raking in around half a billion dollars in revenue as Tablet reported back in 2017. According to the Omaha Steaks website, the company has become the country’s largest direct response marketer of beef and gourmet food. Talk about fulfilling the American dream!

For Five Generations Omaha Steaks Has Been A Family Business

In the company’s century-long history, Omaha Steaks has remained a Simon family enterprise the current CEO and owner, Bruce Simon is the great-great-grandson of Omaha Steaks founder J.J. Simon. Simon has grown up in the family business and used to accompany his father to the plant as a child before working there during summer breaks from high school and college. This made Bruce Simon a natural choice to step into the position, as he had served various other positions within the company until 1994, when he became president and CEO.

Unlike other meat industry giants like Tyson Foods and Oscar Mayer, Omaha Steaks remains a privately owned company, meaning that investors cannot purchase shares of Omaha Steaks. While going public is typically looked at as a huge accomplishment for any major company, remaining a private, family-owned business has allowed the company to focus more on its long-term strategies, rather than constantly worrying about quarterly earnings.

Omaha Steaks is mainly known for their meats so I can bet most dont ever look at their skillet and slow cooker meals but to be honest we have swapped our meal subscription boxes for these because they are flash-frozen so they wont go bad if plans change and we dont get to them on a certain day this week. Plus, I have learned that they are safer than those boxed subscriptions too because there is no chance for contamination which is why I have included them in this review of Omaha Steaks.

Worst: Omaha Steaks Live Prince Edward Island Mussels

OMAHA STEAKS UNBOXING AND REVIEW

Another seafood dish bites the big one when it comes to the worst buys from Omaha Steaks. While beautifully seasoned fish may have rave reviews from customers, the Live Prince Edward Island Mussels earned one lonely star rating by time of publishing.

Mussels can be tricky. Along with their fellow mangey mollusk relatives, pose a particular health hazard when eaten raw or uncooked if harvested from polluted waters, according to the USDA. Mussels must also be kept alive, as once the mussel dies, the meat begins to deteriorate and can put consumers in danger of food poisoning, according to Livestrong. Omaha Steaks’ World Port Seafood brand claims to have the best quality and safety standards, but consuming raw shellfish, like mussels, can put you at risk of ingesting bacteria and viruses, according to Seafood Health Facts. The minimal processing of these mussels is a bonus, but the hoops this company has to go through to ensure safe and fresh delivery to your doorstep might not be worth the risk.

Plus, this slimy, saltwater shellfish doesn’t provide much in the way of meat. You’ll have to scrape at least half-a-dozen mussels to get a few ounces of meat. Too much risk for too little reward in our opinion.

Where Does Omaha Steaks Source Their Meat

Unfortunately, Omaha Steaks does not make it clear exactly where they source their meats from. Even in their blog article here where they talk about why their beef is better, they dont exactly mention where it comes from. They speak very vaguely about how they select the beef and where it comes from. All of this is a bit discerning considering that Omaha Steaks markets themselves as high-quality meat but fail to mention what makes them high-quality.

How Do You Cook Thick Chicken Breast On The Grill

  • Close the cover of your preheated grill and place the chicken breasts on top of it.
  • The lid of your grill must be kept covered while your chicken cooks to ensure that no heat escapes throughout the cooking process.
  • Grill your chicken breast for 6-8 minutes on one side, depending on how thick it is.
  • After 6-8 minutes, turn the chicken breast over and cook for another 6-8 minutes on the other side.

The Best Flour For Dumplings

Filet Mignon Dumplings

Ive tried making these dumplings with both all-purpose and cake flour.

The cake flour definitely wins as far as the texture is concerned. The dumplings turn out lighter and fluffier, whereas all-purpose flour can yield heavier, chewier dumplings. You can make this recipe with all-purpose flour, but for the best dumplings, use cake flour if you have it.

These pressure-cooked dumplings will have a slightly denser texture than if they were simmered in a pot on the stove. I dont mind a little extra chew, though, especially because theyre so convenient to make this way!

Worst: Omaha Steaks Italian Red Wine Beef Stew Slow Cooker Meal

Just the thought of ordering a slow cooker red wine beef stew through the mail is enough to make us skip this selection, considering we could customize it quite easily at home. Despite their best efforts to promote this dish as having a fancy Italian sauce, Omaha Steaks should put this Italian Red Wine Beef Stew recipe to rest.

Slow cooker cuisine is so easy even the most novice chef can manage this meal. Just dump in your favorite ingredients, let it simmer for a few hours and voila a fully cooked meal ready to eat. Omaha Steaks tried to simplify this amateur recipe even one step further by supplying customers with all necessary ingredients and seasoning, including their beef sirloin tips, fresh-cut vegetables and custom Italian sauce made with Burgundy wine and beef stock. However, many beef stew purchasers were dissatisfied with this dish, giving it a 3.7-star rating. One displeased patron wrote that she thought “the sauce was a little much on the tomatoes and not enough meat…” Another reviewer admitted that there is too much sodium in all Omaha Steaks’ crockpot meals, and left a lowly 3-star rating.

No matter how many stars this recipe receives or how effortless it is to cook, we’re going to pass on this company’s wine-drenched version of beef stew.

Omaha Steaks Got In Trouble For Violating Telemarketing Laws

Omaha Steaks Crock Pot Meal Deal

Perhaps you’ve gotten a call or two from a robocaller at Omaha Steaks trying to sell us on their holiday gift box special that’s stuffed to the brim with gourmet hamburgers and tri-tips galore. Well, in 2014, one man in Gresham, Oregon, had received just one call too many, as The Oregonian reported.

According to The Oregonian, Michael Hetherington received 10 unwarranted calls to his cell phone from the company over the course of just a little over a month in 2013. Hetherington did some research on laws surrounding telemarketing and realized that the company could be breaching the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991. The act essentially states that companies aren’t allowed to call customers without their permission nor can they use automated programs to dial up random numbers with added emphasis in regards to protecting cell phone numbers. This is exactly what Omaha Steaks was doing when they called Hetherington those 10 times and he filed a lawsuit against them in 2014.

The lawsuit grew into a wider class action suit and was eventually settled about two years later in 2016, when the company had to shell out $5 million to customers they’d called in violation of the TCPA. According to Top Class Actions, a website investigating various class action suits across the country, customers began receiving checks from Omaha Steaks for around $40 in December 2016.

Omaha Steaks Pricing And Plans

Many meat delivery services focus most of their efforts on selling subscription boxes. These can be a good option for some customers but others may dislike them for several reasons. Omaha Steaks gives you the choice. The company calls their subscription boxes gift boxes since theyre often bought as gifts for someone else. These arrive at your home or the home of whoever you give them to every 1, 2, or 3 months for an entire year.

For example, you could purchase the Monthly Steak Gift Box, which is sent out once a month for a full year. The products in this box change every month, so youll get to try products like top sirloins, filet mignons, ribeyes, and flat iron steaks. Its a smart way to experience everything Omaha Steaks has to offer.

Beyond gift boxes and bundles, Omaha Steaks is proud to offer a wide selection of standalone products. These range in price, cut size, and quantity based on your specifications. For example, here are some of the companys best-selling products along with their starting price.
