Grilling Ribeye Steak – Seasoning, Cooking time and Temperature – PoorMansGourmet
  • Season steak with salt on all sides and rest on a plate at room temperature for 45 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 225 degrees.
  • Season steak as desired and place on a baking tray. Bake in the oven for 45 minutes to one hour or until a digital meat thermometer reads your desired doneness temperature .
  • Heat one tablespoon of butter in a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the steak on one side for 1-2 minutes. Flip with tongs and sear the other side for 1-2 minutes.
  • Move the steak to a plate tented with foil to rest for 5-10 minutes. Enjoy!

How Long Can You Marinate A Ribeye Steak

To let the steak absorb the flavors from the seasoning, you have to at least marinate it for 30 minutes. This will get the seasonings to combine with the meat.

Since ribeye steaks are relatively more tender than most cuts, I suggest that you do not go over 3 hours of marinating or else, you will end up with a cut that is too soft.

Herbs De Provence Steak Seasoning

If you want aroma in your steak seasoning, then this is the one for you.

It is a combination of green spices that counter some of those unhealthy fats in the ribeye steak.

So combine two teaspoons of kosher salt, and a teaspoon of herbs de Provence, sugar, and black pepper in a bowl before rubbing it on the ribeye steak once it is ready.

Can You Make A Grilled Ribeye Rub Beforehand

You most definitely can. The Montreal blend used for this grilled ribeye recipe can actually be kept at room temperature indefinitely, so long as its kept in a cool, dry place.

You can even apply the rub and refrigerate overnight. It wont be a dry marinade at that point, but thats okay. The result will be the same, and youll get the same crust and sear.

  • On a three or more burner grill, turn on one burner to low or medium low heat.
  • Place wood chips in a foil pouch on the grill grates over the flame.
  • Place meat on indirect side. Close lid. Try to keep the temperature of the gas grill under 250 degrees, its tough as they have a lot of venting, so adjust your flame as needed. When the meat internal temperature reaches 110 degrees, you can remove the foil wood pouch.
  • Next, crank up heat to high and finish with that sear.
  • Remove when internal temperature of meat is to your desired doneness.

  • Preheat the oven and a heavy skillet or cast iron pan.
  • Season steaks with salt and pepper as required after brushing with oil.
  • Cook for two minutes on each side of the steaks.
  • Place the pan in the oven and roast the steaks once theyve been browned on both sides. Dont overcook the food.
  • From the pan, remove the steaks and set them on a platter with butter pats on top. Make a foil tent, and for 5 to 10 minutes, put on a side the steaks to rest. Its critical to give them time to rest to keep them juicy.
  • Cooking Ribeye Steak In The Oven

    • Salt steak on all sides. Then, leave at room temperature for 45 minutes.
    • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat with one tablespoon of olive oil.
    • Season steak with more salt, if desired, and black pepper.
    • Sear the steak for 1-2 minutes on one side flip with tongs and sear for 1-2 minutes on the other side.
    • Place the skillet in the oven and cook for another 5-8 minutes until a digital meat thermometer reaches the right temperature for your desired doneness .
    • Rest steaks on a plate tented with foil at room temperature for 5-10 minutes.

    Seasoning Your Steaks In Advance

    If you’re ok with starting early and want to give this method a try, here’s how: Pat the meat dry with paper towels and sprinkle both sides of the steaks generously with Kosher salt. Be sure to get the salt on the edges of the steaks as well. That’s 1½ inches of surface you definitely want to cover. Press the salt crystals into the meat with your hands.

    Transfer the steaks to cooling racks with a sheet pan or cookie sheet underneath, cover the whole tray with plastic wrap and stick them in the fridge, for up to 24 hours. Take them out about 30 minutes before cooking, pat them dry again with paper towels , season with freshly ground black pepper , and then grill as you normally would. The reason to pat them is that a dry steak will form a browner crust when it’s cooked.

    When using this seasoning mix, you will need a ziplock bag to combine all the flavors into the steaks.
