Yeah, I got cracks, and since I want to own this car for another 50,000 miles I want to get the windshield fixed. The mechanic I go to says between $300 and $400. That seems high to me, but I know that if I take it to them it will be done right. It’s a great garage. Also, we live in the San Francisco area, so everything except anonymous gay sex is expensive here. I know you can have someone do it in your driveway’the windshield, not the anonymous gay sex. My mechanic recommends storing the car overnight in their garage. I guess they blow dry it with warm air or something to get a good seal.Any thoughts on the price, or where to have it done? |

it ran me around 250 the one time I got a windshield replaced in Baton Rouge, so take that for what you will.It usually depends on the car, though, as my FiL’s windsield was replaced and it was around 340. |

I’ve never had to pay for a windshield replacement, thats why you have insurance. Every time I’ve had to get one replaced I just answer yes to the question when asked by the glass company, “Did a rock hit it?”. Problem solved. The work with the insurance company directly and I’ve never payed a dime. |

Last year was one of the most tumultuous in recent times for Floridas insurance markets.
Home insurance premiums spiked by double digit percentages after carriers requested substantial hikes to cover rising reinsurance costs, increasing litigation and lingering storm claims. Floridas insurance regulator launched an examination of the financials of many of the states carriers.
And while the final figures are not yet in, 2020 losses for Floridas domestic property insurers are projected at about $1.3 billion, according to Mark Friedlander, Florida representative for the Insurance Information Institute.
Litigation over windshield replacement claims, meanwhile, have also shot up, particularly in the Interstate 4 corridor from Orlando to Tampa.
Several proposed bills this session take aim at some of the underlying issues in the states insurance industry, particularly ballooning litigation.

George Corporaal hit the airwaves offering a free box of steaks with a windshield repair, transforming the Minnesota auto glass business in the process much to the chagrin of insurers and eventually state legislators.
Corporaal, known for his offbeat commercials that touched off the 1990sauto glass wars, died Feb. 19 in Naples, Fla., at age 68. The cause was heart failure, said Chris Corporaal, his son.
Corporaal, a glass man his entire career, began promoting his Glass Service Co. in the early 1990s on television and radio, offering meat along with auto glass work. By aiming directly at consumers, Corporaal was lobbing brickbats at the industry model.
You can easily call him a pioneer, said Edward Iago, a friend who succeeded Corporaal at Glass Service in the early 2000s.
Insurers played the dominant role in choosing an auto glass repair company, not consumers. But independent local companies like Corporaals Glass Service claimed big insurers steered business to big auto glass networks.
So, during Thanksgiving in 1991, Corporaal began giving away turkeys with new windshields. He soon switched to steaks, popping up on TV in several guises a druggy hippie, the Godfather, Charlie from Charlies Angels. He looked to Casablanca for whats perhaps his show stopper: The glass guy as Bogie, clad in a fedora and trenchcoat, a foggy tarmac backdrop to boot.

You could kiss those $500 cash rebates for windshield replacements goodbye if a bill passed unanimously by the Minnesota House on Wednesday becomes law.
The measure sets a $35 limit on the incentives ppg auto glass shops can offer customers.
Thats high enough so shops could still offer customers a free box of steaks. But it would outlaw the big gifts that critics contend are driving up windshield replacement costs.
More importantly the legislation creates a mechanism for setting fair glass replacement prices, an issue over which the ppg auto glass and insurance industries have been quarreling for years.
This bill is a peace treaty in the ppg auto glass war, said the measures sponsor, Rep. Ken Wolf, R-Burnsville. It represents an agreement negotiated by representatives of the two industries.
Minnesota consumers pay among the highest ppg auto glass replacement costs in the nation, 69 percent above the U.S. average, according to a recent insurance industry study. Critics blame the cash rebates and other big gifts for the high costs.
They contend glass shops lure customers with those incentives, then charge their insurance companies inflated prices for windshield replacements. Insurance companies must pay those prices because state law requires them to pay all reasonable costs, and court rulings let glass shops determine what is reasonable. Insurers pass those extra costs on to consumers in higher premiums.
