Omaha Steaks Vs Kansas City Steakswhich One Is Better

Meat Boxes | Omaha Steaks unbox 2020

With over 20 different online meat delivery services to choose from, how do you know which ones are worth your money and which ones are a complete waste of time?

Omaha Steaks and Kansas City Steaks, two of the upper contenders, argue that they have the best service for delivering organic, high-quality beef to your door. We think one of them comes out on top. Lets find out why.

Omaha Steaks Company Info

Omaha Steaks was started in 1917 by a father and son who left Riga, Latvia, to escape religious persecution. Today, its operated by the 5th generation of the same family. Each generation of the Simons family has added something new to Omaha Steaks.

For example, the company recently introduced its Steaklover Rewards program. This program gives customers the chance to earn points on purchases, product reviews, and more. If you anticipate ordering from Omaha Steaks often, then you should sign up for the Steaklover Rewards program. Doing so will allow you to save money on future orders.

Shipping is an important thing to consider when purchasing meat online. Omaha Steaks has a somewhat dizzying pricing structure for this. If you purchase one of the companys pre-made bundles, you can have it shipped to your home for free. You can also earn free shipping by becoming a gold member of the Steaklovers Rewards program. Either way, youll get the wagyu beef, Kobe, and other products you want without having to sit on a waitlist.

If you satisfy neither of these criteria, then youll have to pay for shipping. Standard charges range from $17.99 to $21.99 based on your orders subtotal. You can also have your order express or rush-shipped to you for an extra $19.99 or $39.99, respectively. This is relatively expensive compared to many other delivery services.

Steak Tips An American Grilling Masterpiece

In New England, sirloin tips, or steak tips as they are often called, are the staple of summer barbecues and are featured on the menus of restaurants throughout the region. You are as likely to find steak tips on the menu at a lowly dive bar as you are at the most popular bistro on Newbury Street in Boston.

There is no obstacle to finding some great tips in and around Boston, as well as in New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont. In the opinion of this amateur critic, some of the best steak tips are found in the seedier local establishments throughout the area and are often coated in some combination of soy sauce, salt, black pepper, and one or two secret ingredients known only to the longtime cook who might also happen to be the bartender as well.

Sirloin tips are usually marinated in something sweet and tangy, and they are often prepped well in advance of cooking so that the meat sops up the marinade. Ive heard of some unusual combinations of products used to add flavor to steak tips. Some common marinating options include can include everything from ketchup, barbecue sauce, soy sauce, lemon, lime, red wine vinegar, maple syrup, balsamic vinegar, Italian dressing, to even copious amounts of Coca-Cola.

Whatever the exact cut, if you go to a reputable or even disreputable restaurant known for their grilled tips, on your next trip to Boston, you wont be disappointed.

Chicken Pops On An Electric Smoker

Unboxing Butcher Box – What You Really Get | Barbecue Tricks

Plum Chicken Pops is my favorite recipe from my new book The Complete Electric Smoker Cook Book. Chicken Pops are one of those things that are a bit of a trick to make therefore theyll take a bit more time. As a result they are always more appreciated. Check out the video to see the How To pluck the pops HERE.

Chicken drumsticks have always been a BBQ favorite. We love them as a kid because they are tasty, hand held, portable, and fun. As an adult I can also appreciate the fact that dark cuts of chicken are easier to cook without drying out. Because dark meat is so affordable heck inexpensive my wallet is happy too.

Furthermore, the addition of this sweet and sticky plum sauce takes the drum stick to the next level of flavor. Plus, making the handle all fancy keeps your familys fingers from getting too sticky. The boys will just like it because it looks cave man cool.

    Tricks For Cooking Bison

When you veer off the basic barbecue path with bison, you can keep these tips in mind for best success:

    • Trim off all visible silver skin and rib membrane
    • Other ways to boost moisture include basting, and larding or barding .

Also, the company sends along an insert thet they use to advise you generally of how to treat BISON as well as other leaner game meats they say FIRST cook for one third of the time and temperature of beef and thats maininly referring to the steaks and cuts you will serve rare NOT the ribs and brisket I tried so make that distinction.

One third of the time and that would be the doneness/internal temperature of beef. I think thats hard to understand, but think of it as approximately one third of the doneness temperature of BEEF in degrees. Beef is rare with a red center at 125 degrees Fahrenheit. Beef is Medium at 145.

So for the steaks and cuts like bison tenderloin they suggest

    • Rare being 115 degrees F to 120 degrees F
    • Medium Rare being 121 to 125 degrees F
    • And Medium cooked BISON should have an internal temperature between 126 degrees F and 130 degrees F.

Lastly, remember to Rest bison steaks and roasts as temperature will continue to rise while resting. So you should remove the bison from heat when thermometer registers 5-10°F lower than desired doneness.

    Trim Off The Silverskin

When I cook beef I try not to over trim off the fat but, when cooking bison, you will want to use a sharp knife and get all the excess silver skin and membrane on the top and back of the bone. I, mistakenly, did not remove some of the top layer and I really should have. The white membrane looked like it was a layer of fat so I left it alone. I discovered thats where a lot of the gamey flavor came from. After cooking I was still able to remove the top membrane and it eliminated the stronger flavor.

Nonetheless, I always pull the membrane of the back side of the ribs anyway . Heres my video on how you can pull the rib membrane more easily.

Also, to minimize gamey flavors in wild meats like bison, venison, elk and boar, some hunters also eliminate any excess blood. Other marinades for game meat call for an overnight soak in a buttermilk solution with salt or vinegar, and sugar or other spices as desired.

Are Omaha Steaks Shipped Fresh Or Frozen

    Omaha Steaks vs Butcher Box

Omaha Steaks are shipped frozen to ensure they retain the freshness they need. Every product is packed in a gift pack with dry ice, and the package is then placed in a styrofoam container. The idea is to ensure the product remains cool during the day of the delivery to your doorstep. As soon as you receive your pack, place the meat in the cooler or freezer.

The dry ice will be well enough to keep one or two orders frozen during transportation and for sous vide cooking. But there could be some shipping costs depending on the subtotal.

What Products Does Butcherbox Vs Omaha Steaks Offer

At first glance, Omaha Steaks simply offers more and I was impressed with the breadth of their selection of their butcher shop and meat subscription box. As a larger company you have a larger selection of goods, which include options beyond meat. Of course, quantity does not indicate quality, and vise versa.

    • Omaha Steaks sells 11 cuts of steak, specialty steak , ham, heritage breed pork, lamb, bison, ribs, bacon, and seafood . Non-meat offerings include full meals, appetizers, soups, vegetables, potatoes, wine, gifts, and desserts
    • ButcherBox sells meat and Wild Alaskan salmon, with a focus on more limited cuts of steak, chicken, and pork . While this is far more limited for an online butcher, I did find myself less overwhelmed shopping for options. I also felt more information and attention was paid to specific meats. Much as I appreciated the options with Omaha Steaks, I prefer the narrower focus and high quality of delicious meat from ButcherBox.
