Ribeye. A good wine to pair with a Delicious Ribeye steak is a Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa or Bordeaux.NY Strip. A classic elegant Merlot or a Merlot dominated blend from Bordeaux.

Top Sirloin. A Tender Top Sirloin should be balanced with a wine that is full bodied and has firm tannins. A nice Cabernet Sauvignon is a great choice.

Filet Mignon. A nice dry red wine like a Merlot or a Cabernet Sauvignon or a wine made from the Sangiovese grape from the Tuscany Region of Italy. If its a special occasion or you just want to go all out, try a nice Brunello di Montalcino Riserva.

Prime Rib. A nice bottle of Ruffino, this mineral-rich wine will pair well with your Prime Rib. Or you can try pairing it with an elegant Napa Valley Cabernet.

T-Bone. T- Bones pair well with a dry red wine with berry flavors and a hint of spices such as clove or pepper notes. Try a Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon or a Rioja wine.

  • Fattier meats, such as ribeye, pair nicely with bold red wines that have ample tannin. The tannin acts as an astringent, cleansing the palate of the fattiness that coats our palates after a juicy bite of steak.
  • More flavorful cuts of beef, such as ribeye and butcher cuts , typically pair best with fruit-forward, younger cabernets with more tannin. More flavorful the steak, the better the chance it will pair with a big cabernet.
  • Older cabernets, which have less tannin, create a food and wine pairing where the wines more subtle fruit and spice flavors are elevated by the fat, protein and peppery spice in more flavorful cuts, such as ribeye and flat iron. This makes for a very attractive pairing that can be an equally enjoyable pairing with a younger, more tannic cabernet.

    First let me get my thoughts on food-and-wine pairing out of the way. The old adage red wine with meat, white wine with fish was useful because it was easy to remember, and invented in a time when the world of wine was a lot smaller and there were not nearly as many influences in our cuisine as there are now. The new gospel is drink what you like and eat what you like, and Im a true believer. Ill go a step beyond that and say the most important thing you are pairing is whom you chose to share a meal with.

    For most of us, most of the time, if were drinking what we love and eating what we like, our pairings will fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. Some wine pairings might work better than others, especially if they balance in intensity, and either match or contrast the flavors of food.

    Fun fact: This Napa Valley institution was founded in 1888 as a barrel-aging facility called A.L. Tubbs, and was one of the first wineries in the area made of stone instead of wood. Another fun fact: Chateau Montelenas 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon. Its tremendous fun, actually. This wine should really come into its own in a decade or so, but right now and its ok to drink right now itll take a few sips before the density and concentration of flavor reveals itself. Its worth the wait.

    Ever wonder what to pair with a great steak other than Cabernet Sauvignon? Ive listed some of my favorites, and you might be surprised.

    When it comes to pairing wine with a great steak most articles will go for the easy pairing Cabernet Sauvignon and theres a good reason for this .

    But in reality there are many wines will work with great steak. And since Italy has hundreds of varietals to choose from we thought wed focus strictly on some of our favorite Italian red wines that we love with steak.

    Fun facts: Italy is comprised of 20 regions, 590 indigenous grape varieties, 300+ DOC wines, 74 DOCG, with a 4,000-year history of grape cultivating! That means theres something for everyone, and with so much history behind the country, they certainly know what theyre doing. And to me, that means finding wines of very high quality that can pair with anything I want them to, including meat.

    And with so much variety why only reach for an Italian red when youre eating pasta or pizza? Consider it for your next steak night and I promise you will be pleased!

    What Type Of Wine Pairs Well With Beef Steaks

    The classic steak is a grilled ribeye seasoned with salt and pepper. This cut has ample fat and flavor to stand up to the heartiest of red wines, provided there is enough acidity to freshen your palate. Cabernet is a common beef steak pairing, but the herbal notes and spicier tannins of a Cab Franc or Bordeaux blend will elevate the meal.

    Leaner, milder flavored cuts like filet mignon open the door to lighter bodied red wines like Pinot Noir and Mourvèdrethe savory, aromatic M in your GSM Rhône blend. Tenderloin is often served with a sauce and you may want to balance your selection to suit.

    Another more casual Paso Robles classic is sirloin tri-tip grilled over an oak fire. This preparation is usually well rubbed with salt, pepper and garlic, served in thick slices with buttery, toasted garlic bread and a side of not too sweet ranch beans.     Bordeaux & Ribeye Steak Pairing

    Bordeaux is a blended French wine that may contain Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Bordeaux is a highly sought after red wine, and collectors are known to pay thousands of dollars for the best bottles.

    Youll still be able to find reasonably priced Bordeaux, and with Ribeye Steak, Id suggest a bottle $40 and up. The more expensive the Bordeaux, the better it will taste, but stick to something in your budget. Furthermore, if youre new to wine, you dont want to drop $100 or more on a bottle of Bordeaux as most of the wines nuances will go right over your head . Thus, Id stick to lower-cost Bordeaux between $40-$80 until your wine tasting skills are at an intermediate level.

    For expensive bottles in the thousands, where you have carefully aged them for 25 years, Id suggest a less fatty steak, such as a NY Strip Steak, to pair up with your wine. If you have your heart on Ribeye, cook it at least medium. Medium-rare Ribeye steak might overpower a mature Bordeaux.

    Extra Spicy Meat With Bloody Mary

    Try some Bloody Mary with extra smoked Tabasco thrown into the mix. The vodka, tomato, and Worcestershire sauce will do wonders for your taste buds while youre dining on an expensive piece of steak.
