What You Need To Know About Omaha Steaks

Omaha Steaks Review: Naturally Aged Steaks That Good? (Taste Test)

Omaha Steaks is a well-known direct-to-consumer retailer of steaks, burgers, and most meats that you could cook on a grill. Known widely for its ease of use and variety of gourmet boxes, the brand is widely recognized and a treat for many. What is less well-known is that the company is over a century old. Bruce Simon and Todd Simon are the fifth-generation leaders of this 102-year-old business . Describes Todd, “…today we’re the largest direct-to-consumer marketer of steaks and gourmet foods, complete with a foodservice division, 58 company-owned retail stores and a national business gifts and incentives department.”

The company was born from humble roots in 1917 with father J.J. and son B.A Simon founding the Table Supply Meat Company in Omaha, NE . The management was passed from the founders to their descendants including B.A.’s son Lester and his sons, Stephen, Fred, Alan. Bruce Simon is Alan’s son and now President and CEO while Todd Simon is the son of Fred and Senior Vice President.

As Todd likes to describe, “I like to say that Omaha Steaks really is an overnight success that took 100 years.”

Omaha Steaks Reviews: What Do Customers Think

This Omaha Steaks review found a plethora of mixed feedback around the brands restaurants and online delivery service. From individual blogs to rating sites, there are definitely happy customers, but some concerns about quality as well. Lets take a look.

Tripadvisor reflected 2/5 stars from 66 reviews. One customer wrote about a positive comment on the brands prices and quality of steaks in 2018, When travelling to Omaha you have to make a quick stop to Omaha steaks and order yourself a package. Good prices and great Steaks.

Another agreed in a testimonial from 2020, after the pandemic had taken over, I anticipated a prolonged lockdown and I am so happy for my purchase. Everything I have cooked to date is perfection.

On the Better Business Bureau , 31 customer reviews left an average of 2.1/5 stars. Many customers noted that the quality was decreasing and the steaks were overpriced. There was one particularly scathing review, Some 40 years ago, it was pretty good. But, its so bad now that I cant see how theyve stayed in business.

Another echoed this sentiment, writing, These are very small and expensive steaks. The steaks are tough and stringy!

Fortunately, Omaha Steaks customer service is quite attentive, earning an A+ rating by BBB. All the comments on BBB received a response from Omaha Steaks, so it seems that they consistently resolve complaints from their consumers.

Omaha Steaks Confusing Pricing

Omaha Steaks prices out their foods individually but the bulk of the items can only be bought in multiples. For example, if you wanted to order their Butchers Cut Filet Mignons, the lowest amount you can order is 4 5 oz filets at $74.99.

Things do get a little confusing with the pricing at times because Omaha Steaks is constantly trying to get you to add more items to your cart the whole time youre shopping. For example, I was recently trying to buy their bacon-wrapped filet mignons but at checkout, this is what it said:

To recap, 4 5 oz bacon-wrapped filet mignons came out to $109.99 but if I add any other item to my cart I will save $54.99 . This pricing seems overly complicated in a way to confuse people into buying more.

Your Steaks Might Not Actually Be Nebraskan

Omaha is just one city, and Nebraska is a state that may be hard-pressed to keep up with the full demand of Omaha Steaks on its own. The Omaha Steaks website notes that all cattle are directly sourced from the Midwest . The company advertises that these cattle involved are grass-fed and grain-finished. Highly trained butchers ensure top-quality cuts with marbling and a 21-day aging process.

Quora users are a bit more skeptical, however, as many people have searched to find the direct sourcing info for this mega-brand. “They don’t raise the cattle, they purchase, cut and package the meat for sale. One thing that I found unusual was that other than being USDA inspected, they don’t tell you the grade of their beef,” . The user goes on to add, “I’m sure their products are fine…” alluding to the fact that even if the cows aren’t Nebraskan, other than being frozen, there isn’t anything about the quality that’s blatantly objectionable.

Why Stocking Your Freezer with Omaha Steaks Makes So Much ...

Both Omaha Steaks and Kansas City Steak Company are good, but out of all the similar services weve tried, ButcherBox is still our favourite steak delivery company.

We recommend ButcherBox for their excellent selection of grass-fed beef, free-range organic poultry, heritage-breed pork, and wild-caught seafood.

Aside from offering high-quality meat, we are impressed with the affordability of their subscription model.

Peyton Manning Is Not An Omaha Steaks Spokesperson

Peyton Manning is a famous NFL quarterback who was at one time known for shouting the word “Omaha, Omaha” while playing on prime time television. His Omaha calls became so repeated that Omaha Steaks themselves joked about the reference in 2014, “Woke up to 652 missed calls from #PeytonManning. #OmahaOmaha” . While this is all just fun and games, experts speculated that if Manning had started shouting “Omaha Steaks” instead of “Omaha” at the Superbowl, his endorsement could have been worth between $400,000 and $1.3 million .

It wasn’t until 2017 that Manning finally confirmed the meaning of the word, stating, “Omaha was just a indicator word,” . “It was a trigger word … ‘Hey, we’d gone to Plan B, there’s low time on the clock.’ It’s a rhythmic three-syllable word, ‘O-ma-ha, set hut.'”

You never know though, he might have been eating some delicious Nebraska steaks for dinner when the inspiration hit.

Omaha Steaks has a huge variety of delicious food but they lack transparency when it comes to their meat quality, USDA grading, and sourcing practices.

It could make for a good gift.

Cons

The pricing can be confusing and annoying.

They lack transparency when it comes to meat quality, USDA grading, and sourcing.

The story of Omaha Steaks starts, not in the United States, but rather in Latvia.

Due to immense popularity in the town, the company began growing and in 1952 they became one of the first butchers to advertise mail order steaks in magazines.

Why Steak Lovers Flip Out Over Wagyu Beef

The wetter the surface of your steak, the more likely it is to steam when it hits the hot pan. So take a paper towel and give both sides a quick pat before tossing it in the pan.

Flat Iron Steak vs. Flank Steak If you’re wondering about the difference between flat iron steaks and flank steaks, the two have little in common. Whereas flat iron steaks are relatively tender steaks that come from the shoulder area of the carcass, flank steak is a tough, coarse-grained cut of beef that comes from the lower belly region.

The Maillard Reaction is what gives things like a roast its distinct crust, the perfect sear on a steak, or the golden-brown crust of freshly baked bread. … and the scientific processes that happen when the meat is cooked plays a big part in why BBQ meat tastes so good.

Why is Wagyu so expensive The rearing method is what makes this beef expensive. In Japan, to qualify for the Wagyu mark, the cattle have to be reared and fed according to strict guidelines.

Refrigerating a steak at a later date is a good option if you want to store it for a couple of days. In general, steak can last 3 to 5 days in the fridge. Keep in mind to properly seal the meat before refrigerating it, so no air will get in and oxidize the meat.

This Company Is Very Very

This company is very very disappointing. Sent gift and it arrived 3 days overdue and meat was rancid and stunk whole house when opening. Dry ice evaporated and meat was in heat for 3 days till it arrived So embarrassed and mortified my gift arrived and caused such a horrific stench and problem disposing of it. Company said sorry and refunded my money. WHAT!!! Asked if new order could be sent next day air to compensate this mistake and supervisor said no It would cost them 49.00 to do that and they could not do that. Just sorry and money refunded. Not Service I would ever recommend.

All the food, except the chicken is good, but all the food is too small which makes the prices too high. One more thing, when I say too small, I mean way too small. Total ripoff.

Does Omaha Steak Have Quality Steaks

Per our review and according to testimonies, most people have nothing negative to say as their steak cut standard is premium. During our Omaha Steaks review, we found the filet mignon cut to get particularly tender and the gourmet franks tasty. The taste is amazing, and the fact that you always receive a good portion of the cut when you buy made it all the more favorable.

You’re going to get a word that Omaha Steak meat delivery service prices tend to get expensive, but let’s be real – filet mignon, Kobe beef, Kurobuta pork, picanha, teres major, and Wagyu beef tend to cost a lot of money, anyway. Until you get into the larger packages or the juiciest cuts of meat, ordering food from them isn’t all that expensive often times than getting your purchases from the local store. In fact, the selection and quality are far better than what most supermarkets or meat place near your area would offer.

However, something you’ve got to note is that cattle are grain-finished, so they are not really 100% grass fed beef nor USDA prime beef.

Best: Omaha Steaks Italian Chicken Fingers

No matter what your age, everyone loves a good serving of chicken fingers. There’s something about that crispy finger food that brings us back home to our greatest childhood memories. Omaha Steaks capture that same nostalgic sentiment and added a slightly more sophisticated twist to create their Italian Chicken Fingers.

These chicken strips are made from white meat, and each one provides about 12 grams of protein and 17 milligrams of calcium per three-ounce serving, according to Omaha Steaks. Whether you’re looking for food to feed the whole family, in need of a finger-licking appetizer, or searching for a substantial meal for yourself, these Italian Chicken Fingers will do the trick. Pair with your favorite dipping sauce, sprinkle some cheese on top or enjoy as is, and it will be hard to be disappointed with this at-home dish.

Omaha Steaks Ran Into Trouble Over Their Website

When you hear about the Americans with Disabilities Act, it’s usually in reference to physical entities you know, things like wheelchair ramps, parking spots, or restroom accessibility. But one little known fact about the ADA is that websites also have a vague set of rules they must follow in order to be in compliance with the act.

Some advocacy groups have been known to take businesses to court if their websites aren’t easily accessible for blind users. However, because these rules aren’t quite set in stone , these cases are often gauged on a case-by-case basis.

See, if a business’s website isn’t rendered properly so that it can be easily read using text-to-speech software, that essentially leaves the website useless and inaccessible for someone who’s visually impaired or blind. The Omaha World-Heraldreported in 2017, that the advocacy group Access Now had partnered with three blind would-be customers to sue Omaha Steaks for a number of accessibility issues with their website.

The company, however, claimed that it was planning on doing a complete renovation job on the website later in 2018 and did not want to update its website until it rolled out the full update. The lawsuit was terminated shortly after it began, as the ADA is relatively vague with regards to internet compliance.

Worst: Omaha Steaks Filet Mignon Dumplings

An exquisite meat like filet mignon shouldn’t be hidden from the world. Dumplings can be a delicious dish, but when it requires dousing the meat magic that is filet mignon with poorly constructed dumpling skin, we’re going to have to pass on this plate.

Receiving a lousy 2.7-star rating, Omaha Steaks’ Filet Mignon Dumplings arrive on the worst list for a few reasons, one of which is the somewhat mess-inducing food-based foundation. Trying to eat one of these steak-stuffed dumplings proved very frustrating for one customer, who wrote, “the dumplings didn’t hold together while they cooked. I hoped they would be finger foods, but we needed a spoon to get all the tasty goodness off the plate.”

Dumplings have deep-rooted history in many cultures from Polish pierogies to Cantonese har gow. Whether they are smothered in butter or dipped in soy sauce, dumplings have become an affordable delicacy enjoyed in restaurants and at home dinner tables for decades. As a premium provider of some of the country’s finest steaks, it’s surprising Omaha Steaks misfired with this meal. Perhaps this meat company should leave the dumpling dishes to more niche establishments and stay focused on what they do best.

They Have About 1800 Permanent Employees

During a normal work day, you can expect to find approximately 1,800 people working for the company. This includes individuals that are answering telephones, filling orders, and working in the factory portion of the business, just to name a few of the positions they have. Its hard to imagine that a small butcher shop that started with just two people could grow to a company that employs almost 2,000 people, but that is proof that when you care about something and you work hard, the skys the limit when it comes to finding success.

The Company Has Developed An Excellent Reputation

Omaha Steaks has never allowed the fact that they have grown into an international company to taint the way they started doing business so many years ago. They still hold the same values now that they had then. That is precisely why they have such a good reputation, coupled with food that is second to none.
