For the main test, I had a group of six people from the Serious Eats team evaluate the knives under real-world, steak-cutting conditions. Lots of restaurants have Father’s Day specials this weekend, but LongHorn Steakhouse is trying something a little different: It’s selling steak-knife sets.

The restaurants are selling sets of four knives with the LongHorn logo for $29.99 apiece. The offer runs through Father’s Day but individual restaurants might sell the sets after that if they haven’t sold out.

“We decided to sell our steak knives as another way to extend the restaurant experience outside of our four walls with our loyal guests,” LongHorn spokeswoman Erica Jaeger said.

LongHorn is owned by Orlando-based Darden Restaurants. The company has no immediate plans for similar promotions at Darden’s other brands, which include Olive Garden and Red Lobster.
