Worst: Hot Fudge Sundae
Desserts aren’t necessarily meant to be healthythey are supposed to be a treat! Even still, a calorie- and sugar-laden dessert following a sodium-rich meal can make you feel bloated and lethargic. If you want a healthier dessert, the dietitians recommend steering clear of the hot fudge sundae
“At 460 calories and 46 grams of sugar, the hot fudge sundae bottoms out the dessert list,” Pine said. “That’s like eating 11 and a half cubes of sugar! If you’re really in the mood for ice cream, ask for the ice cream alone or order the kids’ hot fudge sundae, which is about half the size of the regular version, meaning half the amount of calories, fat, and sugar.”
And if you think subbing in something sweet as your drink option is better, not so fast, as Davis recommends avoiding the root beer float, too. It comes in at 280 calories and 47 grams of sugar.
“Most of the sugar will come in liquid form, so it is absorbed faster and will not make you feel like you just ate double your sugar allowance,” Davis warned. “Try to avoid sweetened beverages and choose water instead.”
Steak N Shakes Breakfast Tacos
Breakfast tacos are a religion for those who love Tex-Mex food, especially in South and Central Texas. However, Steak n Shake is not a place to go to get your hands on authentic breakfast tacos. If youve had the real thing, these are actually a poor, nearly inedible imitation. Everything that could be wrong with these tacos is amiss, which is a bit surprising because this restaurant does have legitimately good breakfast options.
Steak n Shake has three kinds of breakfast tacos: egg and cheese, sausage and egg, and potato and egg. None of the three are worth sampling. The problems begin with their tortillas, which are too rigid and seemingly stale. Eggs in proper breakfast tacos are fluffy and buttery, while these eggs are crumbly and too close to being scrambled. And though they do give you a side of fresh salsa, dont rely on it to mask the faults. The salsa is too mild, too watery, and will only add to the fakeness of this faux Tex-Mex meal.

What Is Steak And Shake
Steak and Shake is an all American old-schooled diner that the general population just can not get enough of. It was started in a small town called Normal, which is located in central Illinois. The founder, Gus Belt decided his love for both burgers and milkshakes should be available at an instated place of dining for all to enjoy. In 1934, Steak and Shake was created.
Belt was a marine veteran who owned a little chicken shop and gas station combination building called Shells Chicken. Out of the marines and ready for a change, Belt transformed this building into a little burger joint called Steak and Shake. The first Steak and Shake was a drive-in joint that became overwhelmingly popular simply through word of mouth. It didn’t take long before professionals were coming on their lunch break and families were traveling decent distances to get a taste of what all of the hype was about.
Not too long after converting it, a fire engulfed the building and did some irreversible damage. After analyzing the situation at hand, Belt decided rather than sulking in the unfortunate event he would rebuild. This time, however, there would be a dining room for people to enjoy their food in. The modern-day Steak and Shake restaurants are standard replications of the latter model.
Belt’s favorite thing to eat was a “steak burger” made out of highly prime meat. He also believed all milkshakes should be made hand dipped. Thus, his coveted menu items were born.

Steak N Shakes Butter Steakburger
Formerly known as the Wisconsin Buttery Steakburger and now known as the Butter Steakburger, the common theme in the name references the butter and for good reason. This burger takes two patties of Steakburger, an extra thick slice of American cheese, and a handful of grilled onions. Then the most important part: salted Wisconsin butter is melted over the top of it. It doesnt sound like a notable culinary revelation but when you put it in your mouth, your taste buds will be blown away.
Before you start chowing down, be sure to grab a handful of napkins because the butter will get all over your fingers and face. If you dont have napkins, youll have to resort to sucking the salted Wisconsin butter off of your fingers. Or, another option is to eschew the ketchup and use the overflowing butter as a dip for your fries. Once you taste the butter, you will probably find a way to get it into your mouth.

Steak N Shakes Turtle Caramel Nut Milkshake
Dont overlook the fact that half of the Steak n Shake name is dedicated to their irresistible milkshakes. The shakes are made with real milk and are topped with whipped cream. Their variety of both classic flavors and specialty flavors is almost exhausting. If you want a classic like vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, or banana, you wont be disappointed. However, their specialty shakes are where they separate themselves from the competition.
Popular specialty shake flavors include Butterfinger, Kit Kat, Reeses Peanut Butter Cup, and Nutella. The best of the bunch? That would actually be the Turtle Caramel Nut Milkshake. The mix of the peanuts and caramel fits perfectly in this thick shake. The only drawbacks are the 113 grams of sugar and the 810 calories. Thats a whole lot of calories as a dessert to add on top of your meal. Then again, the counterpoint is that the Turtle Caramel Nut Milkshake is totally worth an extra hour at the gym.

Steak N Shakes Change In Management
Experts point to a decline in the quality of service and food, starting in 2008, as the main culprit for the chains declining popularity. This was the same year that new owner, Biglari Holdings Inc., took over the company and implemented some major changes to Steak n Shakes operational model.
CEO Sardar Biglari had a fresh vision for the way Steak n Shake should operate: with high efficiency and low margins. As YouTuber Company Man explains, Biglari essentially wanted to sell more burgers for cheaper, where speed of service would be key in feeding the masses with not great, but good enough, burgers and shakes.
In order to achieve this, Steak n Shakes menu was pared down to the basicsburgers, fries, sodas, and shakesand its prices dropped to a uniform low across all locations. While sales started to rise for a while, they started slipping again in 2016.
Some of Biglaris changes have had a lasting impact on the burger chains appeal with customers. But thats not the only complaint.
Best: Bowl Of Genuine Chili
If you are looking for some hearty comfort food with less guilt, Steak ‘n Shake has you covered with its genuine chili.
“There’s nothing more comforting than a steaming bowl of chili, and I like this option as a main entrée,” Pine said. “This chili contains beans, which contribute to the whopping 13 grams of fiber. Most folks should get between 25 and 38 grams of fiber per day, and this chili can make a big dent in that daily goal.”
Pine does note, however, that this option is high in sodium, contributing to about half of the recommended daily value, so it’s important to keep that in mind.
The chili mac is one of the worst offenders in the chili category, with high numbers in calories, sodium, and sugar.
“This chili has 1,200 calories in one servinga little more than two McDonald’s Big Macs,” Davis said. “It also has 16 grams of saturated fat and 2,710 milligrams of sodium. Excessive sodium intake is a risk factor for many chronic diseases, such as hypertension. On top of that, it has 16 grams of sugar, so it is definitely not a healthy option.”
