    Venture Outside Your Comfort Zone

We all fall into routines of buying the same cuts of meat, which can lead cooking at home to feel stale. To prevent this, ask your butcher about alternative cuts that might be similar in flavor, more affordable or just something different to shake up your dinner routine. For example, one of Weening’s favorites is a chuck eye steak, which is a cross between a chuck steak and a rib-eyeand half the price of the latter. “It’s really tender, has a lot of marbling, and a lot of times, you don’t find it in the case because butchers will buy it for themselves,” he adds.

What Is Steak And What Part Of The Cow Do They Come From

Steak is not just any piece of meat. Steak is generally defined as a cut of meat that is sliced across the muscle fibers.

There are many different kinds of steak, each coming from different areas of the cow. Each type of steak has different characteristics.

Ribeyes come from the rib area. T-bones, porterhouse, filet mignon, and strip steaks come from the loin.

Some steaks, like skirt steak and flank steak, are cut with the muscle fibers. They come from the short plate and the flank. They also tend to be tougher than other steaks.

Arguably, one of the hardest things about cooking steak at home is picking and purchasing steak at the supermarket. Its not surprising, either. There are a ton of choices!

How To Cook Prime Ribeye Steak

Prime ribeye steak tastes best when cooked just to the point of juiciness, between rare and medium. This is usually accomplished by searing both sides of the meat on super high heat. There is no need for fancy ingredients all you need is ribeye steak, oil, seasonings, and some butter for perfection.

    Ingredients:

    • 2 tbsp butter

    Instructions:

  • To begin with, pop a cast-iron skillet in the oven while its preheating to 450 °F.
  • Meanwhile, rub the meat with your preferred oil on both sides and season it with salt and pepper. Once the oven is hot, carefully transfer the empty skillet to the stovetop over moderate heat.
  • Next, place the meat in the pan. Sear for a couple of minutes before flipping and topping with semi-crushed garlic and thyme.
  • Return the skillet to the oven for about 6 minutes more.
  • Pop the pan back on the stovetop, this time reducing heat to a minimum. Flip the meat before drizzling it with butter. Carefully tilt the skillet while continuously coating the steak with the contents of the pan. Cook until an internal temperature of 120 °F for medium-rare .
  • Let rest for a few minutes. Before serving, coat the ribeye steak with browned butter from the skillet.

Whole Foods Expensive Humanely Treated Meat Is A Sham Peta Lawsuit Claims

Trimming Whole Rib eye – Cutting Rib eye Steaks” How its Done Right!”

In green, air-conditioned aisles at stores across America, the welcoming signs beckon. Yes, customers may be buying meat and theres no denying that meat is dead animals. But these animals, it seems, are raised and killed humanely. That beef, chicken, turkey or pork in shoppers baskets isnt necessarily inconsistent with animal welfare. Right?

Isnt that what Whole Foods customers are paying for? At the chain not-so-affectionately nicknamed Whole Paycheck many fork over top dollar for meat raised with animals well-being in mind. The store even has a 5-Step Animal Welfare Rating system.

But, in a class action lawsuit filed in California on Monday, a well-known animal rights group alleges that the grocery chains attempts to monitor how its suppliers treat their animals are a sham. And that its customers are paying for it.

When a grocery stores standards for improved animal welfare are not actually enforced or do not require meaningfully better treatment for meat animals compared to the industry standard, consumers are deceived into paying a higher price for meat that fails to offer the benefit they seek, the suit against Whole Foods, filed by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals in U.S. District Court in Northern California, read.

A representative for Whole Foods said that the chain was not yet ready to respond to the complaint, but cautioned about PETAs motives.

Whole Foods Market has an employee discount while all employees are provided a standard base discount rate of 20% on all store purchases, higher rates, up to 30%, can be earned based upon employee physical fitness health tests that are given yearly. These fitness exams are taken at the option of the employee.

A good price on average of a ribeye steak will be between $12.99/lb to $14.99/lb. Not too cheap to be good. Always look out for sales and stock your freezer when you find one.

I prefer to buy my meat where there is an actual butcher you could talk with. Sorry Trader Joe’s, you and your pre-packed meat are out. I have never had a steak from Trader Joe’s I thought was any good.

Whole Foods Market does indeed have some good meat people, however that price tag is too hard to shallow.

Costco comes in at $12.99/lb. Costco cuts their beef in house. The quality is better than what you get for a little more money at a store like Kroger.

    Fatty Steaks Or Lean Steaks

Before choosing the cut, you buy, make sure to take note of the size. If the steak is on the fatty side and has more marbling, the flavor will be more intense. They take much more time to cook compared to a lean steak but taste amazing when cooked properly. Cooking it improperly will call for a nasty chewing session we dont want to experience.

To prepare these meats, you can also chop up the cut or shave it into thin pieces. Preparing and cooking these types of cuts takes more time and effort.

If you go for lean cuts, they are more tender but fall behind in offering much flavor. So, when you are shopping for steaks, choose a cut that isnt too fatty or lean. A balance between the two so it will have some fine marbling and tender to bite into.
