To implement the steak and eggs diet into your life, I recommend you only do it until you get down to your ideal bodyfat percentage, then switch over to a more sustainable diet.

For some men, this may mean following the steak and eggs diet for a few weeks, for others, it may take a few months, or even a year.

Remember to ALWAYS listen to your body, however. If you feel like absolute shit on this diet for more than a week, it probably isnt for you.

Personally, when Im on the steak and eggs diet, I feel GREAT. I feel like fucking ZeusIm energetic, stronger, and way leaner.

Again though, its very difficult to build muscle on. If your priority is building muscle, consider trying a clean bulking diet instead.

Ketosis On The Steak And Eggs Diet

Ketosis is one of the most misunderstood and underrated concepts in all of health and fitness. Very few people fully understand this idea.

See, our bodies have two primary sources of fuel:

  • Carbohydrates
  • Fat
  • When your body is in a state of using carbohydrates for energy, its called glycolysis. When your body uses fat for energy, its called ketosis.

    While theres benefits to each, depending on the circumstances, ketosis is objectively better for losing weight for one major reason: it doesnt boost insulin nearly as much as glycolysis.

    I talk about this more in Body of an Alpha, but the idea is that insulin is a storage hormone, and carbohydrates increase it.

    So, when you eat a bunch of carbohydrates, what does that do? Well, it means youll either store your food as fat or as muscle.

    This is why eating carbohydrates is mandatory for bulking up. But when you only eat fats and protein, you dont boost insulin very muchmeaning its WAY easier to shred fat, but harder to build muscle.

    Is The Diet Easy To Follow

    This likely depends on the person.

    For those who love steak and eggs, and follow the diet passionately, then compliance to the diet is strong.

    On the contrary, if someone attempts the diet as a quick-fix and they are constantly craving their preferred foods, sticking to the diet would be very difficult.

    There is also the issue of fitting such a restrictive diet into ones social life. For example, only allowing yourself to eat steak and/or eggs rules out a large number of restaurant/pub/cafe foods.

    Sure, its possible to find steak and eggs in many casual restaurants, but its not something youre going to find everywhere you go.

    A diet high in vegetables is correlated with damn near every positive health effect in the book: lower risk of cardiovascular disease, lower risk of cancer, longer life, and a stronger immune system.

    Thirdly, the steak and eggs diet isnt sustainable. Your body actually needs carbohydrates for certain bodily functions, and without it, you dont function too well. This is why I dont view the diet as a permanent lifestyle change, but rather, a temporary change to shred fat.

    Lastly, theres some concerns over the link between dietary cholesterol and blood cholesterol levels. Personally, I dont think its as big a deal as the medical community makes it out to be, but this is still something to monitor .

    Although the steak and eggs diet is phenomenal for losing weight, theres still a good amount of drawbacks. Like I said before, theres no perfect diet.

    Every diet is going to affect different people differently. Theres no perfect diet, but there are different diets that are good for different things.

    Is The Steak And Eggs Diet Healthy

    There isnt really enough evidence to give a definite answer to this.

    For one thing, there are no studies looking at the long-term effects, and the bulk of what we have is anecdotal evidence.

    However, from an evolutionary perspective, steak and eggs are certainly foods that fit our biological requirements.

    Additionally, it is probably arguable that the diet is healthier than the standard Western diet that most people are eating.

    For instance, a diet consisting of steak and eggs is significantly more nutritious than one full of sugary cereals, bread, processed fats and refined, packaged foods.

    If we compare the diet to a well-designed eating plan that includes animal foods and plant foods?

    Well, thats a different question.

    Is The Diet Optimal

    In my view, no the diet is not optimal.

    Although we may hear the occasional story about anti-nutrients in fruit and vegetables, the vast majority of studiesincluding dozens of well-designed, systematic reviews and randomized controlled trialsfind benefit from these foods.

    Personally, Im a big fan of steak and eggs. But I prefer to combine them with garlic, mushrooms, and other tasty plant foods.

    However, this doesnt mean that people wont experience benefits, such as weight loss, from the diet.

    Better satiety levels, easier weight loss, and greater lean mass are all potential benefits offered by the steak and eggs diet.

    Lastly, if anyone is going to be eating so much steak, its a great idea to learn how to cook it for optimum taste.
