Why Are Online Steaks So Expensive
Just as online steaks have a reputation for being tender, they also have a reputation for their high price tag. In truth, the price is not inflated when you look into all factors. For one, many mail-order steaks are sourced in a way that is inherently more expensive than your average steak. Wanting to showcase the best of their selection, they show rare cuts, such as Wagyu or high standards, such as organic and grass-fed. Thus, the price of these meats is inherently more expensive than your average steak.
You also have to factor in shipping and the services youre paying for. That isnt to say that all mail-order steaks are fairly priced or evenly priced amongst competitors. You shouldnt go into buying steak online expecting to save money. But taking a nuanced view of why the price is higher shows you that there are valid reasons.

How Is The Customer Service
The customer care is anything but poor. We like how the support team operates seven days a week. You can get in touch with a representative by contacting their toll-free phone number during the hours of:
- Weekdays â 7 am to 10 pm
- Saturday â 8 am to 7 pm
- Sunday â 9 am to 5 pm
They would also answer a lot of questions on their website fact center. Their support page is quite extensive to read, making the experience of ordering from them much easier overall.

Worst: Omaha Steaks Live Manila Clams
Cooked seafood is not for everyone, let alone a raw, still-living mollusk straight from the sea. If you do manage to stomach seafood, there’s a great deal of added risk involved, from poor taste and food-borne illness to more extreme cases of toxic chemical poisoning. With pressure to provide the healthiest and highest-quality food, restaurants and meat retailers alike often struggle with their fresh-caught offerings. Keeping seafood clean and uncontaminated is an ordeal all its own if improperly transported, stored and prepared. Omaha Steaks pride themselves on quality, but even the most prestigious of food vendors can fall short with their seafood, and these Live Manila Clams are no exception.
Eager to expand into the seafood market, this famous steak company actually created their very own brand called World Port Seafood. While there may be some top-tier products available through World Port Seafood, this live clam plate is not one of them. Costing customers $200 per package, this seafood bundle sat with just one sorry review star on the website at time of publishing. We’re not sure if it’s the price that has pushed patrons away or the raw shellfish health facts that might prevent customers from enjoying these clams fresh that does this dish in. Either way, we’re sure this may be one of Omaha Steaks’ worst options.
Does Omaha Steak Have Quality Steaks
Per our review and according to testimonies, most people have nothing negative to say as their steak cut standard is premium. During our Omaha Steaks review, we found the filet mignon cut to get particularly tender and the gourmet franks tasty. The taste is amazing, and the fact that you always receive a good portion of the cut when you buy made it all the more favorable.
You’re going to get a word that Omaha Steak meat delivery service prices tend to get expensive, but let’s be real – filet mignon, Kobe beef, Kurobuta pork, picanha, teres major, and Wagyu beef tend to cost a lot of money, anyway. Until you get into the larger packages or the juiciest cuts of meat, ordering food from them isn’t all that expensive often times than getting your purchases from the local store. In fact, the selection and quality are far better than what most supermarkets or meat place near your area would offer.
However, something you’ve got to note is that cattle are grain-finished, so they are not really 100% grass fed beef nor USDA prime beef.

Overall Omaha Steaks Review
Omaha Steaks brings something unique to the online meat delivery industry. The company has a level of experience in meat delivery thats unmatched by any competitor. This can give you confidence that every order you place from Omaha Steaks will meet or exceed your expectations.
Beyond that, Omaha Steaks sells some of the finest cuts of meat money can buy. You can purchase wagyu, prime ribs, New York strip steaks, and much more. Additionally, you can buy all of the sides you want to serve with your meat from the companys website. This enables you to get all of your shopping done in one convenient place.
Still, Omaha Steaks isnt a perfect company. There are some things they could stand to improve. For instance, the meat delivery service could streamline its shipping options, which are currently more expensive than many other industry leaders.
Additionally, Omaha Steaks could expand its meat-sourcing practices to include more 100% grass-fed beef and free-range options. Customers today want to know more than ever about how their food went from the farm to their table. Omaha provides limited information about whether steaks are non-GMO or not. They also dont state whether the offerings are USDA choice or USDA prime.

Meat Quality & Grading
One red flag I ran into when researching Omaha Steaks is that they dont share the grade of beef they use.
If youre unfamiliar, the USDA grade shields are quality grades used in the beef industry to help people understand the class of beef their getting.
- Prime beef is from young, well-fed cattle. It generally has a lot of fat or marbling.
- Choice beef is high quality but has less fat than prime beef.
- Select beef is the leanest beef.
- Standard and Commercial grades of beef are usually sold as ungraded or as store brand meat.
Food Box HQ Note: In researching the beef grading process, I stumbled upon this YouTube video of how its done. Its long but very informative.
Another red flag I ran into when researching Omaha Steaks meat quality is that no where do they mention if their meats have hormones or antibiotics. In fact, I literally searched the entire site and couldnt find any mention of hormones and only one product page that mentions no antibiotics were used in raising the animal.
How Long Omaha Steaks Stay Good
Omaha Steaks have been carefully vacuum-sealed to preserve the freshness of the meat. The producers also ensure that they are shipped immediately while frozen so that consumers can get these steaks at optimum quality. When stored properly inside the freezer, their steaks and chops retain their best flavor and texture for up to 3 months.

The Omaha Steaks Inventory Has Expanded Beyond Just Beef Products
The name “Omaha Steaks” is, admittedly, quite a bit misleading. While beef might be what comes to mind when you first hear the company’s name, you might be surprised to find that you can actually get a much wider range of specialty products. In the 1960s, Omaha Steaks began expanding its catalog from only offering steaks to also include premium cuts of pork, poultry, and seafood. Since then, they’ve added an even more extensive range of products to the menu, as the company’s delivery services have become much more widespread.
While steaks are still the prime cut of meat at Omaha Steaks, you can actually purchase a huge range of products besides their signature beef as well from Polish-style kielbasa to hearty wild halibut fillets. They’ve even got an expansive set of accoutrements to serve alongside the main course, including charcuteries and potato-based side dishes, as well as some decadent wines. Perfect for your next steak dinner. Or your next kielbasa dinner. Or your next halibut dinner.
Does Omaha Steaks Ship Free To Hawaii Or Germany
|Add an extra $125||N/A|
Omaha Steak delivers to everywhere in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. They cannot deliver to Germany or other international locations, nor will they deliver to P.O. Boxes, A.P.O., or F.P.O. addresses. Shipping is not always free. For both Hawaii and an international location, youll pay an additional fee. See the chart above for shipping and handling fees.
Delivery fees are a little steep, but shocking. Omaha Steaks may not be worth ordering if youre in Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands keep in mind that fee is added to other shipping costs, and of course, the cost of your purchase.
Is It Better To Bake Meatballs
Baked meatballs have a much better and richer taste than fried meatballs. because while being baked in the preheated oven, their outside gets seared nicely and they remain delicious and juicy.
They can be baked frozen or thawed, with or without sauce/gravy. Just put them on a baking sheet, bake for 20 minutes, and you will have delicious warm meatballs!
They will stay yummy even after they cool completely!

Best: Omaha Steaks Private Reserve Rack Of Lamb
The meat masters at Omaha Steaks crafted this dish with flavorful vengeance. Only the best cuts of meat make it into Omaha’s Private Reserve club. Each piece of this lamb dish is hand-picked and aged for almost a month for premium meat perfection. According to Omaha Steaks, the Private Reserve Rack of Lamb offers a “deep earthy flavor” and provides an exquisite “melt-in-your-mouth texture” it’s no wonder this dish has nothing but five-star ratings.
Good lamb takes time, and to quote NPR’s feature on lamb shanks, “good things come to those who wait.” For Omaha Steaks’ lamb rack, they recommend coating the lamb with garlic, butter, salt and pepper and placing it on a rack in a shallow pan. Once this voluptuous meat is cooked to your liking, season lamb roast with chopped parsley and enjoy.
And if you’re still not sold, listen to Liz from Mississippi, who wrote that the Private Reserve Rack of Lamb `was the best lamb I’ve had in a very long time! VERY tender I could have used a butter knife to cut it!”
Let the masters of meat do what they do best: serve you some of the best seasoned meat in the entire country.
Omaha Steaks Confusing Pricing
Omaha Steaks prices out their foods individually but the bulk of the items can only be bought in multiples. For example, if you wanted to order their Butchers Cut Filet Mignons, the lowest amount you can order is 4 5 oz filets at $74.99.
Things do get a little confusing with the pricing at times because Omaha Steaks is constantly trying to get you to add more items to your cart the whole time youre shopping. For example, I was recently trying to buy their bacon-wrapped filet mignons but at checkout, this is what it said:
To recap, 4 5 oz bacon-wrapped filet mignons came out to $109.99 but if I add any other item to my cart I will save $54.99 . This pricing seems overly complicated in a way to confuse people into buying more.

How Are Omaha Steaks Aged
The majority of their steak is dry-aged for around 20 days, in a temperature and humidity controlled environment. Wet aging is more economical, as it takes mere days. With dry aging, the process takes longer. Wet aging vs dry aging is not as simple as one being superior to the other it depends on the cut of meat. Dry aging is preferred for meat with more fat and marbling, while wet aging is suited for lean cuts, such as flank or flat iron steak.

The Omaha Cut Ribeye From Omaha Steaks
Ive shared with you before about Omaha Steaks. I am proud to be an ambassador and Im a huge fan. Omaha Steaks has a stellar reputation as Americas original butcher. They are known for only the highest-quality cuts of meat, all delivered right to your door .
Well, they created a brand new cut of steak. In fact, it is so new and unique, that they are in the process of trademarking this steak. It will officially be known as the Omaha Cut. It is thicker, triple-trimmed, and perfectly sized.
Heres what Omaha Steaks told me about these new Omaha-Cut Ribeye steaks:
- BEST RIBEYE FLAVOR Ribeyes are exceptionally tender and exceptionally flavorful because they are loaded with fine feather marbling, which melts as the steak cooks, making it profoundly juicy and flavorful.
- PERFECT TRIM With the OCR, we take the very center of the ribeye and trim off all exterior fat so all youre left with is tender, juicy, ribeye bursting with flavor.
- THICK + TALL And even better, our Omaha Cut Ribeye is THICK. By trimming all exterior fat and cutting from only the center of the ribeye, we get steaks that are round and tallmeaning, you can cook it to its perfect doneness without fear of overcooking.
- PERFECTLY PORTIONED And you get all of this in a perfectly portioned steakno massive plate-sized ribeye here. Our Omaha Cut Ribeye is thick, juicy, tender, leaner, and flavorful, in just the right size.

Whats So Special About Omaha Steaks
Omaha Steaks is perhaps the oldest mail-order steak company, but it didnt start as a delivery company. Omaha Steaks was founded in 1917 in Omaha, Nebraska, where it is still headquartered today. What was at the time a local butcher shop expanded into a mail order service in the early 1950s. By 1960, Omaha Steaks expanded its outreach by introducing vacuum-sealed packaging and dry ice to help the meat stay fresh for longer. A famous highlight was in 1961 when President John F Kennedy enjoyed Omaha Steaks. That year Omaha Steaks also earned acclaim at the Culinary Olympics in Germany.
Thus, Omaha Steaks established a glowing image of tender meat, customer service, and convenience. The question is: has that reputation held up, especially amidst competitors?
Are Omaha Steaks Overpriced
Its hard to declare something overpriced for a mail-order company, as I mentioned in my comments above. Compared with other mail order companies, prices are not out of the ordinary for Omaha Steaks and the selection they offer. However, its important to be realistic about your expectations, as well as open up possibilities to getting a great deal.

How Long Can Omaha Steaks Stay In Packaging
If you keep your Omaha Steak package in a vacuum-sealed bag, you can leave it for three months in the freezer. Make sure the meat is not thawed at room temperature! Let it defrost in the refrigerator, which would allow it to retain more of the natural juices.
Defrosting 1 inch or thicker cuts at 3640 degrees Fahrenheit should take between 1224 hours. If you dont have that much time, quickly thaw steaks under cold running water while they are still in their package, and this should take between 3040 mins.
Make sure to only defrost how much you need! After you take the part you want, leave the rest in the sealed package. Thawed meat must be used up in 35 days.
