Kansas City Steak Company Vs The Competition

Its likely you probably already know that Omaha Steaks is the biggest competitor to Kansas City Steak Company. Both are very similar in terms of what they offerbetween steaks, different cuts of meats, gift bundles, and even their websites.

However, there are a ton of lesser-known meat delivery services out there these days that also provide a similar service. Heres a look at some of them and how they differ from Kansas City Steaks:

  • Snake River Farms: Known for their American wagyu beef, Snake River Farms offers a similar service to Kansas City Steak Company but focus more on the higher end meats. What I like about Snake River Farms is that they control their entire supply chain, which means more control over the quality of the meat.
  • Crowd Cow: Like Kansas City Steak Company, Crowd Cow has a ton of variety in terms of meats, sides, and desserts. They sell all the same types of meat in addition to game meat such as boar, duck, and elk. Crowd Cow also sells plant-based meats.
  • Porter Road: When it comes to high-quality meat, its hard to beat Porter Road. I love that they do not freeze their meats when they send them as to not compromise the quality and flavor of the meat.
  • Rastellis: Rastellis is one of my personal favorite meat delivery companies. They offer all the same meats and cuts as Kansas City Steak Company as well as many precooked meat options . What I like most is that theyre very open and transparent about their sourcing practices.

Comparing Their Menu Options

Grass

Both Omaha Steaks and Kansas City Steak Company have similar nice classic beef and quality meats, such as New York strip steaks, filet mignon, ribeyes, top sirloin, prime rib, and a T-bone with really tasty flavor.

They both also offer high-grade seafood, free-range chicken, turkey, and Berkshire pork for meat delivery.

We love how they both offer exclusive Black Angus all year long, as well. We say that’s one good meal you would want to try and share with your family or give as a gift to close friends. For your party, you can add wine, a variety of country dish sides, and everything’s perfect.

  • Omaha Steaks, we found out that the business may have a more extensive menu that you can place an order on. The company offers offer bison, veal, wet-aged beef, and gourmet burgers for you to cook.
  • Kansas City Steak Company had a less extensive offering when we ordered, but they never ran out of private stock USDA prime beef, prime rib roast, filet mignons, and steak burgers.

Where Does Kansas City Steaks Source Their Meats

All of the food that Kansas City Steaks sells comes from National Beef, which has locations throughout Kansas. The beef comes from U.S. Premium Beef, with ranchers across 37 different states. Its not clear whether the cattle the steaks come from are actually from Kansas City or even Kansas.

On the Kansas City Steak Company website, they dont make it clear where any of the other meat comes from. On their All About Steak page, they are pretty vague about the source of their meat, only stating they source from tight cattle supply from producers with known and approved management methods.

Are Omaha Steaks A Good Deal

Kansas City (8) or (16) 5-oz Top Sirloin Steaks on QVC

Omaha Steaks has a huge variety of delicious food but they lack transparency when it comes to their meat quality, USDA grading, and sourcing practices. They offer a huge amount of variety, making it a good choice for big parties. Their premade options are delicious .

In the same way Why are mail order steaks so expensive? 1) Because the meat is ostensibly higher quality and 2) because of the relatively high cost of refrigerated shipping. Your local butcher is probably a better option for bulk buying. Tell him you plan on regularly buying a large amount of beef and he should be willing to cut you a deal. If not try another butcher!

Is There A Difference In Quality

While both companies also offer high-quality beef, only one specializes in clean eating. ButcherBox’s founding mission was to “make grass-fed beef more accessible.”

Each one of their item in the catalog is clean and free of chemicals and hormones, which makes it a great selection for carnivore dieters. Even when you’re new to the diet, their choices will significantly help in your transition.

The goal is that you can cook a restaurant-grade steak or other great meat in your kitchen. So if you’re looking for top tier cuts, great value, and a rich meaty flavor, I lean towards choosing the box. This is something Omaha Steaks delivery has not guaranteed.

Omaha Steaks also has a quality gourmet meat selection with cuts like NY strip steak, pork tenderloin, and rib-eye steak. But, it doesn’t have the guarantee that their products in a box are clean and additive-free.

However, as a carnivore diet follower, I view meat as more than a food source. It’s the very foundation that provides me energy and sustenance throughout the day. So, food quality is at the top of my list when evaluating these two services. If you’re on the same diet as mine, choose wisely between the quality of Omaha Steaks.

Both companies offer custom meal options Omaha Steaks offers gourmet meat packages or pick and choose orders. While ButcherBox has monthly delivery with four main meal kits and a custom box option.

Kansas City Steaks Company Review

5

The Kansas City Steaks Company is headquartered in Kansas City, Kansas, and specializes in the production and distribution of high-quality beef which includes premium meat that is approved for sale by the USDA.

Not only beef, but the Kansas City Steaks Company includes a wide variety of poultry, seafood, and plenty of other foods that are eligible for being delivered to peoples homes and the foodservice industry.

The company was founded by Giovanni Scavuzzo in 1932 during the initial years of the Great Depression. The company was formerly in operation as S& S Meat Company where Scavuzzo worked with his sons Carlo, Edward, and Santo.

The S& S Meat Company operated as a retail store for almost 50 years after it was converted into the Kansas City Steaks Company.

In the year 1980, the owners took the initiative of converting the retail store to an exclusive meat ship where they started providing premium meat to restaurants and hotels that were located in the area of Kansas City and Missouri.

It was only in 1984 after the great-grandson of Giovanni Scavuzzo joined his family business and rebranded the entire company introducing a new mail-order catalog.

After the introduction of the catalog, he took advantage of Kansas Citys popular high-quality steaks and established the Kansas City Steaks Company as the businesss mail order section.

The company also operates as a food service delivery business and provides premier meat to restaurants, and even to your doorstep.

Omaha Steaks Vs Kansas City Steakswhich One Is Better

With over 20 different online meat delivery services to choose from, how do you know which ones are worth your money and which ones are a complete waste of time?

Omaha Steaks and Kansas City Steaks, two of the upper contenders, argue that they have the best service for delivering organic, high-quality beef to your door. We think one of them comes out on top. Lets find out why.

Drawbacks Of Kansas City Steaks

We felt that their steak was simply an average choice insofar as cooked meat is concerned. The one thing we expect when we order meat from a business like Kansas City Steaks is for the cuts to be flavorful and tender. We tried the Kansas City strip steak, tenderloin, and the prime rib, and we found them to lack flavor and marbling. They were also slightly dry.

We had to add extra beef broth and seasoning to keep them juicy as we cook. We made the steaks for a holiday dinner along with other ingredients like potatoes, and others who attended also noticed that the flavor just wasn’t up to what we want it to be. Maybe we should have used a smoker box?

Are Kansas City Steaks Grass

Kansas City Steak Company (28) 2-oz Beef Tenderloin Medallions on QVC

Kansas City Steaks says that its cows are raised by trusted producers in the golden wheat and cornfields of the Midwest. That means that the majority of beef they use is not grass-fed, instead, it is most likely corn-fed.

With that said, the brands website says that it does carry 100% grass-fed beef, but weeding out which ones are grass-fed and which ones arent is trying, as not every page mentions what the cows diets consist of.

Submitted Customer Experiences

We tried the Sirloin and the Porterhouse steaks. The flavor was excellent on both but they we so very thin. It was extremely difficult to barbeque them a true medium rare to rare. We did notify them of this issue. We are extremely pleased with their response. They explained why the steaks were cut that way. Also, they stated the the filets are the only cut of meat that are much thicker. They also suggested that they send us Custom Filets or a 50% discount on our order. We chose the filets. They are truly awesome. Thank you so much for your incredible customer service.Kansas City Steaks was horrible. Even after I complained customer service suggested I should have ordered a more “premium” cut. spent over $300 for gristle porterhouse and 1/2 thick ribeyes. in my opinion it was like ordering “minute steaks” in the 60″s.I purchased a 5 to 5.5 lb prime rib roast. WI purchased a Porterhouse steak.

Kansas City Steak Company Meat Grading

Thankfully, Kansas City Steak Company shares their USDA grading more than Omaha Steaks does.

The beef they sell is primarily USDA choice and USDA prime.

If youre unfamiliar, heres a brief look at the main USDA grades of beef:

  • Prime beef is from young, well-fed cattle. It generally has a lot of fat or marbling.
  • Choice beef is high quality but has less fat than prime beef.
  • Select beef is the leanest beef.
  • Standard and Commercial grades of beef are usually sold as ungraded or as store brand meat.

These grades are important to see since they allow you to know the type and quality of the meat. In my experience, they allow you to cut through all the marketing lingo that a lot of meat delivery companies use.
