However, if fans run into one-time Phoenix Suns star Kevin Johnson near the arena this season, they shouldn’t fear the Lakers are adding the 55-year-old former point guard to their roster.

Instead, Johnson, who also served as the mayor of Sacramento, is the owner of a new restaurant called Fixins Soul Kitchen, which is located across the street from Staples at L.A. Live. Fixins had its Grand Opening on Monday night.

The Best Steak Dishes In Los Angeles

    Steaks Cooked to Perfection

Los Angeles might not have the pedigree of Chicago, New York, or even Las Vegas when it comes to steakhouses, but that doesn’t mean that it’s lost a step in presenting solid interpretations of steak. Though steak is often the most ubiquitous and predictable order on menus across the city, L.A. restaurants have drawn from everything from Mid-Century dining style to Filipino cuisine. The result is this eclectic collection featuring 10 of the best steaks in Los Angeles.

Adam Perry Lang first built a following in Hollywood by serving Serious Barbecue on Jimmy Kimmels backlot. He switched from smoked meats to house-aged steak and opened APL Restaurant down Hollywood Boulevard in 2018. Dry-aged steaks have been known to spend over 400 days in the restaurants environmentally controlled chamber, but newer cuts are also stellar. Ribeye ages for just under 100 days, which is still a staggering number by standard steakhouse standards, resulting in deep, concentrated flavor. APLs team cooks steaks in a broiler for 6-8 minutes, hits each steak with butter and sears the meat right under the flame to form a sear. They finish by slicing and serving rosy, fat-rimmed ribeye slices with the bone, which still has prized bites attached.

The 16 Best Steakhouses In Los Angeles

Among the top restaurant trends of 2015, the return of the so-called old-school steakhouses is perhaps the most celebrated. Huge, shimmering, caveman-worthy cuts of beef and table side-tossed caesar salads are being served in new swanky interiors. And of course everything is washed down with a martini.

To be fair the old-school steak houses never really left. There are a handful of tried and true establishments that have been here for the carnivores whether it was trendy or not. That said, we are now in the heyday of great Los Angeles steakhouses with the mainstays still going strong and the new kids on the block providing style along with a bit old-fashioned charm.

    About Our Chef: Michael Mina

Born in Cairo, Egypt, and raised in Ellensburg, Washington, Chef Michael Mina has enjoyed a love affair with the kitchen, creating memorable dining experiences for guests from a very early age.

Chef Minas epicurean journey began in 1987 at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park. During those 18 months of formal schooling, he spent his weekends sharpening his natural talents with hands-on experience in Charlie Palmers kitchen at the upscale Aureole in New York City.

At the start of his career, Chef Mina was presented with the opportunity of a lifetime with then-executive chef of the Bel Air Hotel in Los Angeles, Chef George Morrone. The two were asked to develop a concept and create a menu for an upscale seafood restaurant in San Francisco the city Chef Mina had dreamed of calling home one day.

Welcomed to San Francisco by a major earthquake his second day in the city, he was unfazed and went to work immediately under Chef Georges direction. Chef Mina dedicated himself to creating a complete dining experience training the entire kitchen staff personally and refining the menu as chef de cuisine. AQUA opened to rave reviews and national acclaim in 1991. Chef Mina served as AQUAs executive chef from 1993 to 2002, where he was awarded Rising Star Chef of the Year in 1997 and Best California Chef in 2002 by the James Beard Foundation.

A man who was shot in the leg during an attempted robbery outside a Beverly Hills restaurant Tuesday night is in stable condition, according to authorities.

Officers responded at 8:45 p.m. to the 300 block of North Canon Drive, according to a watch commander with the Beverly Hills Police Department.

Reached by phone, a manager at Via Alloro confirmed the shooting happened on the sidewalk outside her restaurant.

The manager, who declined to provide her name, said the victim was a male diner who had stepped outside when at least one shot was fired.

No one else was hurt, and the shooter did not enter the restaurant, the manager said.

Lt. Giovanni Trejo, a Beverly Hills Police Department spokesman, called the incident an attempted robbery.

The male victim struggled with the suspect over the property, Trejo said. What the suspect was going after, I cant say, but the victim was able to retain all the property. Nothing was taken.

The suspected shooter fled in a car driven by another person, Trejo said.

Earlier this year, Beverly Hills was rocked by a brazen armed robbery involving gang members who were going after high-end watches.

A woman was shot in the leg during a struggle over the gun used in the March 4 holdup at Il Pastaio on Canon Drive.

Three suspects were caught weeks later with the help of surveillance footage and DNA evidence, authorities said.

Whether you want yours blood rare or barely pink inside, lean and mean or marbled and juicy, there’s a steakhouse in Los Angeles that’s just waiting to slice you up a just-right piece of meat.

For despite L.A.’s reputation for being the place where skinny actors only eat vegan diets, the steakhouse is a mainstay of Southern California. Perhaps it’s all the scientists and engineers that also make up the vibrant landscape of Los Angeles or perhaps it’s also those famous actors and musicians that populate the town, for they certainly draw the paparazzi outside of a number of the most popular steakhouses.

Perennial hotspots like Boa Steakhouse, Wolfgang Puck’s CUT and Mastro’s Steak House are constantly hosting famous faces from every walk of life, while venerable classics like Lawry’s The Prime Rib actually holds the Beef Bowl every year, offering a meat-eating extravaganza to the two Rose Bowl college football teams in the days before the game. As of 2014, that steak party has happened for 59 years running!

Newcomers regularly join the steakhouse ranks, too, for Southern California is a very big place and can support many top-notch places specializing in beef. Which means this list of the 10 Best Steakhouses in Los Angeles includes both classic and cutting-edge places, all with one thing in common: their steaks are delicious.
