No. Rabbit meat is not routinely consumed in the United States even though rabbits, horses, cats, and dogs are consumed in other parts of the world. Health Alert: Plastic Found In Ground Beef Sold At Whole Foods

Some ground beef sold at Whole Food grocery stores nationwide may contain foreign material, according to a release from the U.S. Department of Agricultures Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The USDA issued a public health alert for Organic Rancher organic ground beef, both sold in 16-ounce containers and marked 93% lean and 7% fat and 85% lean and 15% fat. Both stamped with the use-by date 5-18-2022, consumers complained of finding hard, rigid plastic in the protein to Whole Foods, which then notified the feds.

Produced on Apr. 20, the vacuum-sealed packages bear the establishment number EST. 4027 inside the USDA mark of inspection. A recall wasnt needed, according to the USDA, since the ground beef is no longer on the shelves for purchase.

No illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported. A release explained: Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a health care provider.

Consumers with the product still in their freezers are urged to thrown it out or return to Whole Foods.

Food safety questions can be directed to the USDA at 888-MPHotline or live chat via Ask USDA from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Questions are also accepted via email, .

Dry Aged Steak At Home

Through some trial and error I have hit on a pretty good recipe for dry aged steak at home. This is a 1 day method, recipe instructions for one steak.

Provided by Diana Adcock

1 inch thick rib eye steak
3/4 teaspoon coarse sea salt

Steps:

  • On a plate sprinkle salt evenly on both sides of steak-you can use up to 1 teaspoon if the steak is really large.
  • Let steak sit on the plate for 45 minutes, then flip and repeat time.
  • I do this at room temperature.
  • You will notice that the steak will weep then suck the fluid back inches
  • This seasons them and tenderizes them.
  • Once done with the salt/plate process I place my steak on a rack over a cookie sheet to air dry.
  • Do NOT cover.
  • You can place them in the fridge*, however you will need to pull them back out 1 hour before you grill.
  • Allow steak to age for 3 1/2 hours, up to 5 hours.
  • *I do not place my steak in the fridge, I simply place the rack in the oven to age. Our house is cool so if your house is hot, I would place in fridge , pulling steak out one hour before you grill.

Whole Foods Market Thousand Oaks

I know the stores in this chain vary greatly by locale but this was one of the worst I have encountered in California. I stopped in to buy lunch supplies on a business trip to Ventura County and was discouraged to be unable to findmy usual soups, salads and sandwiches that I buy elsewhere. First the store is very dark. Second it is not very clean. Third much of it is closed off with construction barriers. There was no deli department for sandwiches. There were minimal prepared foods in the hot bar and the salad bar was slim pickings. Actually I did not trust the quality of these open foods and abandoned that idea and bought all frozen convenience foods just to be safe. There just seemed to be a lot of angry customers around. I had assumed that high end suburbs typically had the better stores. Thousand Oaks, you should complain to Amazon. I got out of there ASAP.More

Foods You Should Never Buy At Whole Foods

Though over a year ago, prices at the high-end grocery chain haven’t come down . A cart of groceries at Whole Foods containing about 60 items cost $197, according a recent research report from Morgan Stanley, about 15 percent higher than a conventional grocery store: The same grocery items at Kroger cost $153.

“Generally speaking, the perimeter of Whole Foods Markets are usually much more expensive, but quality is also deemed better, too,” says Chuck Grom, Managing Director of Gordon Haskett Research Advisors, who analyzes pricing trends at Whole Foods and other retailers.

Even so, you should really only shop at Whole Foods for specialty items you can’t find elsewhere, or if a certain product is on sale, Cindy Livesey, author of “Living Rich with Coupons,” tells CNBC Make It. “It’s a very expensive store and their prices on the majority of their items are way higher than you can get anywhere else.”

Here are the top six foods experts say you shouldn’t bother buying at Whole Foods.

Not All Chicken Breasts Are Created Equal

A few pounds of boneless, skinless chicken breasts may be a staple on your weekly grocery list. But before you pluck any from the cooler, understand what you’re paying for by looking closely at the label as well as the price tag. “Some chicken breasts may contain 8% water ,” says Weening. “They might look cheaper, but in the end, you’re buying waterit cooks off, but you’ll pay for it.” Instead, look for chicken breasts labeled “air chilled,” which means that no water has been added. These will likely have a higher price tag, but you’re getting 100% chicken this way, so you’ll come out ahead.

Use Your Butcher As A Resource

Bush

The next time you’re looking to buy meat, leave it up to your butcher to help guide your purchase. Weening says he advises shoppers to ask butchers, “What would you buy today?” This way, they can direct you to quality picks of the day, such as pork with a lot of marbling , or a sale on a tomahawk steak. You can also ask questions about how to cook any type or cut of meat you see, or how much to buy for a particular group. “We want the butcher to give the customer ideas and help them out,” Weening says.

In Person: Talk To Team Leader Or Meat Counter Person At Whole Foods

Talking directly to Whole Foods employees can also make an impact. You can visit your local store’s meat counter and talk directly with the people who are selling rabbit meat. Education appears to be a key element: some rabbit supporters have called or visited stores to express their outrage regarding the sale of rabbit meat, and the clerks are often not aware that rabbits are the 3rd most popular companion animal in the US, and they are essentially selling us pet meat. The more people we can teach that rabbits are friends, not food, the better!

Some rabbit supporters are tabling outside of Whole Foods to raise awareness of this issue. Bring friends and information about rabbit companions.

Lisa R. has done this already, and writes about her experience:I had a very successful 3 hours outside of the WF store that I frequent 4 times a week for my job. I am well known at this store so I was a bit nervous with the idea of creating waves. To feel more confident, I brought a friend with me and had some handouts ready to go, including a

I got lots of signatures even some from the employees! I brought 3 bunnies. I introduced people to my bunnies and asked them if they wanted to pet them, then I explained why I was out there. I also made a couple posters with photos of my bunnies on my bed, the couch, lying next to a cat or dog etc. so people could see that they live just like cats and dogs! I brought a small table with 2 posters/signs, my flier handouts and some clipboards with .

What Makes One Type Of Steak Better Than Another

We all have our own idea of what makes a steak good.

The same applies when we talk about better steaks. For this article, were going to assume that the better steak is super flavorful yet tender. Were also going to assume that cost is not a factor.

Filet Mignon comes from the tenderloin portion of the cow.

It contains very little fat and comes from a non-weight-bearing muscle. This, along with it not containing much connective tissue makes it the most tender cut of meat. However, the lack of fat does not make it the most flavorful.

This is why it is usually served with some sort of sauce or wrapped in bacon.

Strip steaks, like the NY Strip, is a good balance of flavor and tenderness. Its got some fat in it, making it more flavorful than the filet mignon. Its also a well-worked muscle, making it less tender.

The Ribeye is the most flavorful cust of meat. Look for high marbling. This is the white swirling youll see in the steak. The more marbling, the more flavorful the steak. If cooked with care, it can also be very tender.

So, what makes one steak better than another steak? A good amount of fat and cut from an area that doesnt do much work .

Big steak tonight for dinner what sides can go with it. H-E-B best grocery store unless you hit the whole food markets I rock with that too

Whole Foods Is Now Selling Rabbit Meat

In the summer of 2014, Whole Foods decided to start selling rabbit meat citing a demand. They are selling the meat of juvenile New Zealand rabbits, exactly the same type of rabbits as many of our friends here at SaveABunny, like Harry , Rama, Lacey and Lemondrop, and Ping and Pong. Whole Foods is selling rabbit meat in 5 regions.

SaveABunny, along with the House Rabbit Society and rabbit advocates from all over the country have teamed up to form the Rabbit Advocacy Network to stay on top of the situation and to organize ourselves to advocate effectively for rabbits. Please join us!

So What If Whole Foods Sells Rabbit Its Just One Chain

Whole Foods is a very successful grocery store chain. Selling rabbit in Northern California stores is a pilot program that Whole Foods intends to expand into other regions. It is likely that other grocery stores will seek to copy the Whole Foods model and sell rabbit. These other stores will likely seek out less expensive sources with even lower standards.
