Omaha Steaks Cooking Instructions

Step 1: Defrost your meat cuts thoroughly. While Omaha Steaks claims you can prepare their food completely frozen, its better to thaw your cuts in a fridge. You can use a water bath for faster defrosting.

Step 2: You should marinate your steak for an hour or longer if you wish. The type of marinate you choose is up to you. If you dont have time for this, simply rub the steak with salt and pepper the result is equally delicious.

Step 3: Choose your cooking method, but preheat the oven first. This company either recommends grilling or baking your steaks. However, microwaves and toaster ovens can also provide great results.

Step 4: If you select the grilling method, place your steak on the grill and relax. You should only flip your steak one for the most delicious flavor. Once the juices start flowing and bubbles appear on top of your steak, rotate your cut and wait for the other side to be done.

Step 5: If meat is still tender, it needs a couple of minutes more.

Step 6: As cuts start to firm up, their temperature changes. Stick the kitchen thermometer in the middle of Omaha Steak. The US Department of Agriculture suggests cooking a steak at 145F to 160F. However, according to Omaha Steak, a rare steak should be cooked from 120F to 125F.

Step 7: Once the meat cut has reached desired internal temperature, remove it from heat and let it rest for ten minutes. In these cases, your steak will be more tender and juicier.

For Five Generations Omaha Steaks Has Been A Family Business

In the companys century-long history, Omaha Steaks has remained a Simon family enterprise the current CEO and owner, Bruce Simon is the great-great-grandson of Omaha Steaks founder J.J. Simon. Simon has grown up in the family business and used to accompany his father to the plant as a child before working there during summer breaks from high school and college. This made Bruce Simon a natural choice to step into the position, as he had served various other positions within the company until 1994, when he became president and CEO.

Unlike other meat industry giants like Tyson Foods and Oscar Mayer, Omaha Steaks remains a privately owned company, meaning that investors cannot purchase shares of Omaha Steaks. While going public is typically looked at as a huge accomplishment for any major company, remaining a private, family-owned business has allowed the company to focus more on its long-term strategies, rather than constantly worrying about quarterly earnings.

They ship most products in Styrofoam-isolated packages cooled with dry ice. The steaks themselves were flash-frozen immediately after being cut, so they should remain as fresh as possible by the time theyre sent out to their customers.

Their shipping cost depends on the weight and value of the package, and it starts at $17.99 if the cost of the package is under $69.99, and they only get more expensive from there, with the faster shipping costing even more. They also charge extra for deliveries outside the contiguous US.

You can, however, occasionally find free shipping, especially if youre a member of their rewards club.

What Grade Of Beef Do They Deliver

While all their beef has been inspected by USDA, they dont use the USDA grading system. They process too much meat in their facilities to grade every single one, so they dont use those labels. Instead, they label the beef using their own system, which could need some getting used to. Most of the beef they sell is sourced from farms located in the Midwestern US, though.

Is There A Difference Between Beef Tips And Stew Meat

Ready to eat or at a barbecue restaurant

Beef tips and stew meat arent the same thing, but labels might make it difficult to tell the difference. If youre doing this recipe on the stovetop, look for beef thats specifically labeled as sirloin or tenderloin.

  • Stew meat often contains a tougher piece of beef that is ideal for Slow Cooker Beef Stew.
  • Unless youre using the Slow Cooker, beef tips should be made with a more tender piece of meat like sirloin or tenderloin.

Overview Of Omaha Steaks

Omaha Steaks has a long history, handed down from generation to generation for over a century. Founded in Omaha around 1917 by a father-son duo from Latvia, the company initially began as a small-scale butcher shop. Quickly they grew, starting mail order ventures in 1953 and reaching global popularity a decade later.

Now, Omaha Steaks is a popular and well-established meat purveyor. In the past, they primarily marketed through teleservice and mailing, but now they also use social media and mobile apps to get with the times.

With two headquarters, three processing locations, and two distribution centers in Omaha, plus 70+ stores nationwide, Omaha Steaks sure flourished from humble beginnings.

Before we jump into this Omaha Steaks review, lets take a look at some pros and cons.

Filet Mignon Pastry Bites

These are one of the foods you can see us make and taste test in our video review above. For being frozen, these came out delicious. The pastry still had a light crispy and flakey texture, which surprised me for something that was frozen and simply reheated in the oven. The inside filet was juicy and savory. Its definitely something I would order again, especially as an appetizer to be passed out at a party or family get together.

Where Does Kansas City Steaks Source Their Meats

All of the food that Kansas City Steaks sells comes from National Beef, which has locations throughout Kansas. The beef comes from U.S. Premium Beef, with ranchers across 37 different states. Its not clear whether the cattle the steaks come from are actually from Kansas City or even Kansas.

On the Kansas City Steak Company website, they dont make it clear where any of the other meat comes from. On their All About Steak page, they are pretty vague about the source of their meat, only stating they source from tight cattle supply from producers with known and approved management methods.

Omaha Steaks Vs Butcher Shops

If you have a trusted butcher shop nearby that offers fresh, high-quality, properly grown meat at good prices, we most certainly recommend buying locally. Such shops are not that easy to find these days and many butchers actually resell supermarket-quality meat at higher prices. Therefore, if you are lucky enough to already have your favorite butcher and know where their meat products come from and how they are grown and handled, there is no reason to order online.

On the other hand, many do not have the luxury to buy meat from an honest butcher and that is exactly why services like Omaha Steaks exist. Even though getting meat from a butcher shop can cost less than ordering from Omaha Steaks, it is not necessarily any different than shopping at a grocery store, except for the fact that butchers charge more than supermarkets.

With Omaha Steaks, you know you are getting properly grown and inspected meat from a reputable source and that the products you receive should be hand-trimmed, flash-frozen at peak freshness, 100% safe, and tasty or you get your money back. If your local butcher cannot guarantee the same or better, shopping at Omaha Steaks is a smarter solution.

Kansas City Steak Company Cons

  • Its expensive. I found Kansas City Steak Company to be one of the most expensive meat delivery companies weve ordered from.
  • The ordering process was a pain. In my opinion, their ordering process is very confusing and almost led to me paying more for items rather than getting the discounted rate.
  • The cooking instructions were not that clear. I found the cooking booklet was a bit confusing to read and the section that tells you how to cook the steak doesnt have spacing between the words.
  • Im not a fan of the packaging. First, its all styrofoam, which is terrible for the environment. Second, the boxes that hold the food are not cushioned, which led to our brookies dessert getting a little smashed while in transit.
  • The flavor of the steaks and some sides could have been better. Especially considering we paid close to $90 for 4 steaks.

Free Items With Your Order From Omaha Steaks

Omaha Steaks is a company that will also offer a free item or items with a purchase of a certain amount. The free item is usually very generous. There have been times during Holiday seasons over the years when I have received a free fully cooked large piece of ham with my Omaha Steaks order. I mention this free item from Omaha Steaks Company in my recipe hub discussing how to make ham fettuccine with Alfredo sauce.

Other items that you might potentially get for free with your order from Omaha Steaks include spices and seasonings. Omaha Steaks offers great steak seasoning. In addition to sprinkling it on meat, the steak seasoning can be sprinkled on baked potatoes or French fries for example.
