Thats just what Jersey Mikes did in the base of their bacon ranch chicken cheese steak. If that sounds like way too many heavy ingredients to find their way into one sandwich, youre not wrong. Moreover, the chicken in this sandwich is kind of dry. The crispy bacon makes up for it but is completely ruined by how much ranch comes drizzled on top. Add in all that cheese, and you have a sandwich that may give you a heart attack after you take your first bite.
A sub is supposed to be refreshing, and thats pretty much the opposite of this particular sandwich. The different components all have something going for them, sure, but we think they would do better playing as the star in their own separate sandwiches. Put them all together, and theres just way too much going on here.

What Are The Sub Sizes At Jersey Mikes
There is the mini, regular, giant, wrap, and tub. The tub is a salad, for those who have never been in. And while none of the sandwiches are keto-friendly, note that you can order a salad with only olive oil and oregano as the dressing and with meat on top.
We chose to analyze the nutrition of each sub with traditional white bread and at the regular size .
Mikes Way means the sub is prepared with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, vinegar, oil, and spices , but this can be modified to your preference.
For our ranking of cold subs, we primarily looked at calories, sodium, and fat, with bonus points awarded for protein.

Much like Moses, the Jersey Mikes legend starts by the water and seems improbable. In 1971 at the Jersey shore town of Point Pleasant, not far from Springsteens Asbury Park turf, Jersey Mikes CEO Peter Cancro started working at a place called Mikes Subs at age 14. When he was a senior in high school, he heard the owner was selling, so he asked his football coach to guarantee his loan. His coach did, and he became the proud owner of Mikes at the age of 17.
From there he opened a few more stores, but it wasnt until 1987 that he started franchising and added Jersey to the name. In a conversation with Jersey Mikes President Hoyt Jones, he told me by the end of 2019 theyll be in 49 states and have close to 1,700 stores, with 200 freshly opened in 2019. Remember how we mentioned that The Veggie sub was just not it? While we appreciate a vegetarian option at chain restaurants, that one is just kind of sad. But there’s good news out there for veggie-hungry diners. If you don’t eat meat but are still looking for something delicious from Jersey Mike’s to enjoy, then you have to snag a grilled portabella mushroom and Swiss sandwich. You’re going to get a ton of mushrooms in this sandwich, and they will give you that meat-like texture and taste you love. This is what sets this sandwich apart from The Veggie: It’s actually got something substantial to it, and it won’t feel like you’re just eating a salad on a piece of bread.

That’s why we’re not huge fans of the roast beef and provolone sandwich. This sub is really similar to the ham and provolone, but with, you got it, roast beef instead of ham. It ended up in a better spot on our ranking because the roast beef at Jersey Mike’s actually is quite good. It’s sliced thin, which means you’re not going to run into any tough, chewy pieces that you may find in other roast beef sandwiches.
Besides that, though, this sandwich is still as boring as the ham and provolone. It’s got nothing going on that sets it apart from the most basic of sandwiches, so it has us wondering why we just don’t make something similar at home. If you love roast beef, go for it. If you’re looking for something more interesting from your dining experience, though, this order is a no-go.

Chipotle Chicken Cheese Steak
Grilled onions, peppers, white American cheese and chipotle mayo
It might be a spice lovers classic, but this chicken cheese steak hits all the wrong notes. It not only falls just beneath the 1,000-calorie mark, but its nearly equivalent to an entire days worth of sodiumor the equivalent to 14 small orders of McDonalds French fries. Thats not to say that other items on the McDonalds menu are much better.
Big Kahuna Cheese Steak
Grilled onions, peppers, mushrooms, jalapeños and of course extra melty white American cheese
Were just surprised as you are that the Big Kahuna isnt the worst hot sub. We mean, its quite the mouthful: packed with grilled onions, peppers, mushrooms, jalapeñosand extra cheeseyour saving grace is basically the fact that theres no mayo-based sauce adding an absurd amount of fat.

Jersey Mikes Menu Review
How I did it: Over the course of a month, I went three times to two different Northern California Jersey Mikes locations. In total, I tried ten sandwiches and three desserts. Per the ethics of these reviews, I didnt inform anyone at Jersey Mikes I was coming, I paid for all of my food, and I didnt even sign up for Shore Points, even though 48 wouldve gotten me a free mini size sub.

The Good Stuff:In my opinion, in order to qualify for glory, a cheesesteak must posses this Hylian Triforce of elements:1) The roll must be toasty and warm and able to withstand the grease of the melted cheese, meat, and onions/peppers without sogging through. 2) The chopped steak must be crispy and tender, without an abundance of the fatty, inedible bits that bounce your teeth back when you bite down.3) The cheese must be of the correct melty consistency to act as a binding agent for the meat, cheese and onions without overwhelming the entire production.
