How to Make the Easiest Steak Kabobs on the Grill
  • Heat the grill and soak the skewers. Heat the grill to medium-high, direct heat, and soak the skewers if youre using wooden or bamboo.
  • Prepare the vegetables. Shave wide ribbons of zucchini with a veggie peeler, and toss the zucchini and grape or cherry tomatoes with olive oil and salt right before assembling the skewers. Dont season too soon or the zucchini will get watery and stick to the grill.
  • Thread the skewers. Alternate threading on steak, tomatoes, and zucchini pieces folded like an accordion onto the skewers. Use two slices of zucchini back-to-back to get a thick-enough layer.
  • Grill the skewers. Make sure the grill grates are scraped clean, then oil them. Grill the skewers until the steak is at the desired doneness and there is some char on everything, about three minutes per side.

Ingredients For Beef Kabobs:

  • Sirloin Steak This cut of beef is lean, flavorful, juicy, and tender.
  • Bell Peppers Choose your favorite color peppers. I prefer the taste and look of red, yellow, and/or orange.
  • Onion Red onions are more mild and very tasty roasted on the grill. Sweet onions are another great option.
  • Zucchini Try to get zucchini that are only 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter so everything threaded on the kabob can lay flat against the grill when cooking.

How To Keep Ingredients From Falling Off

To prevent meat and veggies from falling off the skewers while cooking, cut them slightly larger than the spaces between the grill grates, about ½ to 1-inch thick. Make sure to thread each piece right through the center.

To avoid the tragedy of an entire kabob falling into the coals, place it across the grill grates.

The No 1 Mistake In Kabob

First things first: Wed like to dispel a common kabob-making myth. Multicolored kabobs loaded up with alternating pieces of meat and vegetables look gorgeous, but youll end up sacrificing flavor for beauty. Meat and vegetables cook at different rates, so its better to make separate skewers for meat, poultry, seafood and vegetables. Its OK to combine items with similar cooking timeslike onions and peppersbut it would be a mistake to put potatoes and shrimp on the same skewer.

Make sure that your grill is preheated before you begin to cook your kabobs. Ive found that the best temperature is around 375F.

Grilling the meat consistently over medium heat is better than blasting them with high heat. Your meat will burn if you increase the heat to over 400F so be sure that you stay safely below that temperature the entire time youre grilling your beef skewers.

The official cooking time will, of course, depend on how large you cut your beef chunks, but on average 8-10 minutes is the time youre aiming to get that deliciously grilled steak.

When in doubt, use a meat thermometer. For medium-rare kabobs, the internal temperature should be 145F. Remember, that the meat will continue to cook a little more and gain a few more degrees once you remove the skewers from the grill onto the platter.

How Do You Make Steak Kabobs

    Grilled Steak Kabobs Recipe Eatwell101

Making kabobs is one of the easiest tasks youll ever tackle. Once you have your meat cut to the right size, thread all of your ingredients onto the skewers. Grill the beef kabobs to perfection on each side then brush on that glorious, aromatic garlic butter mixture. You can then serve one of the easiest dinners youve ever made.

Everyone has their own steak preference and mine is sirloin. Sirloin is what I used for my beef kabobs recipe although other cuts of steak will get the job done. I would suggest using rib eye or New York strip steak as a substitute for sirloin, although they tend to be pricier.

If you dont have access to a grill or you just dont feel like getting the grill set up, these steak kabobs can be broiled in the oven as well. You can also cook them indoors on a grill pan. Be sure to follow the directions in the recipe for broiling rather than grilling if you go the oven route.

    Best Steak For Kabobs

Youll notice from my ingredients list below that I opted for top sirloin steak for these kabobs. The reason sirloin works so great is that it is a very lean cut of meat without a lot of fat so the cubes of steak wont shrink that much while they are cooking. Other options would be New York strip or tri-tip.

How Big Should I Cut My Steak

Chop steak into 1 ½-inch cubesin order to keep them juicy. To that end, purchase steaks that are nice and thick and avoid petite sirloin steaks as theyre too thin. You will also want to cut the cubes as uniformly as possible so they cook evenly. Avoid cutting the beef too small or it can easily overcook it is better error on larger cuts verses smaller. You will also want to cut your veggies about the same size so everything will cook in the same amount of time.

Whether we prep our outdoor grill or I pull out my trusty little indoor grill pan, grilling up some deliciously marinated meats as well as some seasonal veggies is a wonderfully tasty treat, kabobs being the perfect example.

Steak kabobs prepared with tender rib eye steak, plus sweet cherry tomatoes and mild red onions are a beloved favorite of mine, especially when the steak is made extra mouthwatering with a sprinkle of spices for a smoky kick.

Threaded onto bamboo skewers with those bright, juicy vegetables, these steak kabobs are a delicious and savory offering fit for grilling season, one that is surprisingly easy to put together and that yields such colorful and flavorful results.

How Much Space Should I Leave In Between Ingredients

How to Make Easy Kabobs on the Grill

Leave just a little space in between each item on your kabobs. You want the veggies and steak pretty close together not smashed together, but almost touching. The little space allows the hot air to circulate while cooking so they grill evenly. The veggies will shrink while they grill, so you will end up with even more space.
