What Makes A Steak Knife

A knife for steak meat must meet special requirements. It should fit the hand as well as possible to cut safely and without tiring. Also, it must be particularly sharp and robust, combined with high-quality workmanship. There are two different types of knives: with and without serrated edges. Both versions have a blade length of 4.5 inch. Steak knives with a high-quality serrated edge have the advantage that a higher pressure is partially exerted on the steak and the higher cutting force makes it easier to cut the product. A disadvantage is that the knives cannot be sharpened with a whetstone or sharpening stick.

So which collection should you buy?

Pro knives are ideal if you often hold your knives using a pinch grip, which is the grip recommended by professional chefs. Theyre also better for executing the rocking technique, which most people use for almost every meal. Lastly, you have a much more extensive selection of knife sets and individual knives to choose from with the Pro collection. Do note, however, that if a knife is listed only as high-carbon or carbon steel, it will easily rust. To be sure your knife is rust-resistant, make sure it is also listed as stainless.

    Stainless steel is steel alloyed with at least 12 percent, and usually 14 to 18 percent, chromium.
