Although I was raised on KFC , my residence in Texas has led me to change my fast food fried chicken franchise allegiance to Churchs Chicken. While neither can compete with the divine fried fowl I have sampled at Willie Maes Scotch House, I appreciate Churchs version for its moist meat and thick, not over-salted batter at a very low price point.
Thus when afforded the opportunity to review Churchs foray into chicken fried steak territory, I responded with an enthusiastic Hallelujah. Since many food historians claim CFS originated in the Lone Star State, Churchs recently launched this special as an homage to the restaurants Texan roots. Further sweetening the deal was their offer to deliver my chicken fried steak to my workplace in the medical center, so I could use it to fuel me through a particularly intense session in the OR.
And by OR I mean, orthography room, aka my office, because, well, Im not a real doctor.
Nevertheless, I know my MD colleagues were beside themselves with envy when my chicken fried steak arrived piping hot from the arms of a handsome gentlemen in a black Mercedes. Well, I can only assume they were since they were still in the hospital saving peoples lives or something.
How To Make Breaded Chicken Just Like Churchs
Theres no need to fuss over frying with our recipe! Instead, we will be baking and letting the oven do the job for us. But weve got a few tricks up our sleeve with this breaded chicken recipe that you should keep in mind.
One is our creamy yogurt and spice mix chicken marinade. Many would opt for buttermilk or some other acidic marinade, but we chose to use yogurt for its gentler and effective way of tenderizing your chicken pieces. Yogurt is the best kind of marinade to help tenderize the chicken slowly, giving you the greatest texture after every bite.
Another trick is to brown your chicken pieces. But wait, why would we need to do that if were just going to place them in the oven anyway? The oven will do the rest of the golden-brown cooking, but its not enough to build flavor. Browning adds more taste to the skin of the chicken and locks in all those juicy flavors from the marinade and breaded mix. Its sure to help the movement of flavors along as it cooks in the oven.

Chicken fried steak is a breaded cutlet dish consisting of a piece of steak coated with seasoned flour and pan-fried. It is associated with Southern cuisine. Global And National Expansion
Churchs Chicken began its international expansion in 1979 and the first location was in Japan. Afterwards, locations in Canada, Malaysia, Mexico and Taiwan were opened under the trade name Texas Chicken. The first locations in Puerto Rico opened after locations in Japan were opened.
In February 2008, Churchs Chicken entered the UK market under the Texas Chicken name, claiming to have signed up 50 former Dixy Chicken franchisees. However, only a small number of restaurants opened, with one in High Road Leytonstone, London, and another in Salford, Greater Manchester. They withdrew from the country a few years later, and the former Texas Chicken location in Leytonstone was replaced with a new independent fried chicken restaurant known as Tex Bites.
In 2017, Churchs Chicken announced a multi-year development deal with Goalz Restaurant Group, LLC to develop 20 Churchs Chicken restaurants each year in Florida, Kentucky, Ohio, Colorado, North Carolina and South Carolina.
As of 2017, Churchs Chicken has more than 1,700 locations worldwide. Its international locations include Bahrain, Belarus, Bulgaria, Canada, Cambodia, Curaçao, Guyana, Honduras, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Vientiane , Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Venezuela and Vietnam.

After this crazy election season, we all could use a little comfort food. Come on down to Calvary Lutheran Church on Wednesday, post-election day, for a little TLC. Stay for worship at 6:30 after dinner if youd like. The music is always exceptionally good, sometimes the puppets come out, and the message of Gods love and grace is there for all. We are the family of God, and as Nora Ephron once said, A family is a group of people who eat the same thing for dinner. All are welcome at our table.

While our breaded chicken recipe comes with drumsticks, you are free to use any chicken parts of your choice! Try using chicken breasts, thighs and even rib parts. How Long Do I Have To Marinate The Chicken
The recommended marinating time for chicken and pork is 3 to 12 hours. For this recipe, we suggest marinating them for at least 6 hours to allow the yogurt to soften the chicken pieces. But its also best to let them marinate overnight to yield a juicier and flavorful chicken. Remember to also refrigerate your marinated chicken in a closed container.
