The Steak and Eggs Diet is essentially a primitive form of a ketogenic diet. If you look up Wikipedia and type in ketogenic diet, this is what you get:

United States Marines ate steak and eggs as their pre-landing meal in preparation for a long day of kicking ass.

It was brought to the fitness world by legendary trainer Vince GiRonda. He called it the Maximum Definition Diet.

Vince had his clients eat a strict diet of steak and eggs during the weeks leading up to their contest or movie shoot. He used the diet to get his clients absolutely shredded in record time.

Professional BodybuilderBorn: 1917

Iron Guru Vincent Gironda was born in the Bronx, New York but moved to Los Angeles when he was young because his father, a stuntman, found work in Hollywood. Always athletic, Gironda was also interested in becoming a stuntman, but realizing he needed more muscles and started lifting weights when he was 22. He trained at the YMCA and then another gym before opening his own, called Vinces Gym, in 1948. Gironda was a proponent of low carb eating and believed nutrition mattered more than working out with regards to building a strong physique. Because he became known as a person who could get anyone into shape fast, he trained many famous bodybuilders and actors, including Mr. Olympia Larry Scott, the Incredible Hulk Lou Ferrigno, Frank Zane, Clint Eastwood, Cher and Arnold Schwarzenegger.Gironda along with fellow trainer Ray Raridon developed a line of supplements called NSP Nutrition. Gironda wrote many training and nutritional manuals, and co-authored a book called Unleashing the Wild Physique. Due to competition from fancier gyms and innumerable personal trainers, Vinces Gym closed in 1995. Gironda died in 1997, just before turning 80. At his peak, he was 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighed about 175 lbs.

In short, it depends. The steak and eggs diet can be a great way to lose some extra fat, because it puts your body into a state of ketosis. This means your body will burn fat very rapidly, so it can be a great diet if you’re trying to lose weight.If you have high cholesterol, you may want to monitor this while on the steak and eggs diet. Alcohol Or No Alcohol

Technically, theres no alcohol involved with the steak and eggs diet. As that would be having carbs and not sticking true to the diet. And in an ideal world I wouldnt have any alcohol.

This meant firstly removing any junk food and processed food from ones diets, and to instead chose fresh fruit and vegetables, while also replacing whole wheat and whole grain products over refined carbohydrates such as pasta and white bread. Vince recommended high quality sourced animal products for protein, and even incorporating raw milk, raw meat and raw eggs into ones diet.

The Hormone Precursor diet, as weve said, is a mass-building diet, rather than one for contest preparation. Its worth stating that Vince adamantly maintained that specific diets were for specific purposes: no diet should continue once its specific purpose had been met. So once youve built the mass youre looking for, or got into contest preparation shape, you should cease the specific diet youre on. You were not supposed to eat 36 eggs a day forever.

The purpose of the Hormone Precursor diet is not just to provide a ready flow of the highest-quality protein, which is necessary for building muscle, but also a huge infusion of cholesterol. Consumption of cholesterol has been proven to have a closer correlation with lean muscle gain than protein consumption . Vince claimed, famously, that a cycle of 36 eggs a day could have the same anabolic effects as a cycle of steroids.

The diet involves building up to eating 36 raw eggs a day, in a series of three shakes. Each one contains 12 raw eggs and half a litre of half-and-half . Protein powder can also be added to the shake, which in the Golden Era would have been Rheo Blairs protein powder, which contained milk and egg protein.

Vince recommended that the cycle should last no more than eight weeks. It would look like this.
