Many of Michael Minas imaginative entrées are cooked on the wood-burning grill at STRIPSTEAK in Miami Beach.
Famed San Francisco-based chef Michael Mina has added to his growing restaurant empire with STRIPSTEAK, his second outpost in the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel. Just a year after launching his bistro Michael Mina 74 in the Fontainebleau, the James Beard Award-winning chef has unveiled a high-end, contemporary steakhouse in the renowned hotel.
STRIPSTEAK offers an inventive menu, expansive bar, and cushy two-story, indoor-outdoor venue. The food itself, which includes numerous cuts of steak aged in the onsite aging room and butcher shop, as well as fresh seafood caught by the hotels daily charter BleauFish, is executed by chef de cuisine Derrick Roberts.
Standout appetizers include peekytoe crab cake with fresh chile, cilantro, and avocado instant bacon comprising pork belly, tempura oyster, and jicama and ricotta cavatelli with duck confit, black trumpet mushrooms, and butternut squash. Though most will be anxiously awaiting the arrival of meat, the truffle butter bread and extensive raw bar are not to be missed, as the latter features highlights such as South Floridas signature stone crabs as well as myriad caviars.

Very Good Experiencebut A Lot Of Food
While my steak was a bit tough and lack-luster, the other steaks on the table were great, especially the filet mignon. The fries that are brought to the table as a complimentary appetizer are delicious. The crab cake appetizer wasnt worth the money. Try to stick with just the entree, or, like us, youll be leaving a ton of food behind and we LOVE to eat.

I was invited to a preview tasting of the Miami Spice menu at Bourbon Steak Miami earlier this week. Miami Spice runs from August 1 through September and offers a $39 three course set menu. At places like Bourbon Steak it also represents a great value.
Two dozen media folks gathered in the private dining room, along with our wonderful hosts from the Turnberry
Isle Resort for a tasting of all the offerings. Have you ever wanted to go to a restaurant and order everything on the menu? We didnt have to. We were simply brought plate after glorious plate.
Appetizer choices include sweet corn and Maine lobster chowder The hand rolled angel hair, is served cacio e pepe, with butter, Pecorino cheese and black pepper. It is one of my favorite pasta dishes because it is so simple and still so flavorful. The version at Bourbon Steak was no
exception. The final appetizer option is a tempura squash blossom with Meyer lemon ricotta, basil and ratatouille. Next time I go I will get this, since it was served alongside the pasta, I was too busy stuffing noodles in my mouth to fully appreciate the squash blossom in all its fried goodness.
Just when I thought it impossible to eat more, we started with the
creamy, cheesy and over the top. I could eat that every day and never get sick of it.

About Our Chef: Michael Mina
Born in Cairo, Egypt, and raised in Ellensburg, Washington, Chef Michael Mina has enjoyed a love affair with the kitchen, creating memorable dining experiences for guests from a very early age.
Chef Minas epicurean journey began in 1987 at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park. During those 18 months of formal schooling, he spent his weekends sharpening his natural talents with hands-on experience in Charlie Palmers kitchen at the upscale Aureole in New York City.
At the start of his career, Chef Mina was presented with the opportunity of a lifetime with then-executive chef of the Bel Air Hotel in Los Angeles, Chef George Morrone. The two were asked to develop a concept and create a menu for an upscale seafood restaurant in San Francisco the city Chef Mina had dreamed of calling home one day.
Welcomed to San Francisco by a major earthquake his second day in the city, he was unfazed and went to work immediately under Chef Georges direction. Chef Mina dedicated himself to creating a complete dining experience training the entire kitchen staff personally and refining the menu as chef de cuisine. AQUA opened to rave reviews and national acclaim in 1991. Chef Mina served as AQUAs executive chef from 1993 to 2002, where he was awarded Rising Star Chef of the Year in 1997 and Best California Chef in 2002 by the James Beard Foundation.

Came to check out their Miami spice menu and to celebrate our parents anniversary. The attention to detail here is beyond amazing! Can we just all say together…. FREE FRIES!!!! As soon as you sit down you get greeted with fries… yes please!! Not just any fries, 3 kinds of seasoned fries paired with amazing dipping sauces. Already starting the night on a high. We did opt for the Miami spice menu which is being featured for the months of August and September. $60 which includes 3 courses. For the appetizer I got the golden tomato gazpacho which was spicy and delicious! Extremely flavorful! For entree I went with the NewYorkstrip which was cooked to perfection! You also get a choice of a side and the sides are pretty big. Gives enough for two servings. We got the Mac and cheese and my husband got the creamed spinach and they were both delicious! Dessert was just as good. We got the chocolate hazelnut tart and the key lime pie with mango sorbet and both were amazing! Definitely the hazelnut tarte is for dark chocolate lovers. It’s more on the bitter side. But delicious!! The staff are so attentive and welcoming. Great experience overall. Definitely recommend celebrating special occasions here and take advantage of the Miami spice specials while they’re available!

Situated at the National Hotel overlooking the eye-catching blue pool, Mareva features a sharing menu of traditional and dynamic Spanish dishes with a twist. On their $60 dinner menu is your choice of endive and boquerones salad, grilled artichokes, and Spanish potato salad for an appetizer. Eat With Your Eyes Closed
On rare occasions, I enjoy very adult, very American dining experiences. Its a nice break from eating at restaurants that try to create bizarre, unfamiliar experiences places where ordering the silliest sounding dish satisfies my desperate attempts in feeling some semblance of emotion.
I wanted to eat rib eye. I wanted a big, fat, buttery lobster. But I still wanted to feel things. This is why Bourbon Steak was my first choice in the Miami Spice circuit this year. Bourbon Steaks menu touts a restrained list of excellently cooked basics with a creative flair. You can have a rib eye thats going to harp on some really familiar chords but add a little twist on it. Itll simultaneously warm your heart and surprise you. Kinda like watching Homeward Bound.
The Spice menu at Bourbon Steak is really straightforward: 3 choices of appetizers, 3 choices of entrees, and 3 choices of dessert. As a general rule of thumb, you should always invite a small group of friends out for Miami Spice dinners so you can strategically order everything on the menu.

The tapioca crusted yellowtail snapper was up next. The lightly crusted fish paired with coconut rice was the last thing Id consider to be comfort food, but there it was. Crunchy and sweet, it was voted the favorite out of all the entrees on the table.

Where To Smoke: Stripsteak By Michael Mina Miami
When you step into StripSteak at Miamis posh Fontainebleau Hotel, you can sense youre in for a treat. Youre greeted warmly, shown to your table inside the two-level restaurant and can smell the rich aroma of steaks searing on wood fire. Perhaps you catch a glimpse of the cigar humidorso rare these dayssitting near the bar as you take a sip of your icy, pre-meal Martini. Or your nose comes to life from the smell of smoke as a neighboring diner is presented with the house specialty of Instant Bacon.
Youre in for a fine meal. And a cigar will follow.
Starting here is easy. The Fontainebleau Hotel sits on a broad stretch of gorgeous beach, and many of the appetizers at StripSteak are evocative of the nearby ocean. The menu presents an extensive list of seafood appetizers, from the traditionaloysters, tuna tartare, shrimp and lobster cocktailto the more unusual, such as snapper ceviche, caviar and Hamachi crudo. When available, go for stone crab claws, which always seem to taste better in Miami. If youre with a large party, splurge on a tower of shellfish.
You can smell the rich aroma of steaks searing on wood fire while being shown to your table inside the two-level restaurant.
For those looking for meals beyond beef, there are several fish entrées, from pan-roasted snapper to lobster pot pie and Scottish salmon.
The bar offers 18 Bourbons, 11 ryes, and two pages of Scotch choices, along with an alluring array of house cocktails.

Stripsteak Was Very Nice
First visit to StripSteak at Mandolay Bay. Was entertaining clients and they were very impressed with the quality of the food and the attentiveness of the wait staff. While not inexpensive, the steaks preparation was superb. Only suggestion would be to make the ambiance a little more towards fine dining. Overall, I was pleased and so were my clients!

Great Food High Price Tag Too Casual
The hostess did not have my reservation on file. I received e-mail confirmation from lasvegasrestaurants.com that my 6pm reservation had indeed been received, so I was quite displeased since this was a big family outing. We were also surprised to find that the dress code was nothing like we expected but there were people that appeared to have just walked in from the pool. It kind of kills the ambience when you have a very fancily, modern decorated restaurant with dim lighting and people sitting around with shorts, t-shirts and whatnot and your entire family has their Sunday best on. We expected a high-end restaurant with a dress code, we got a high-end restaurant with no such thing. The food is amazing, dont get me wrong but I will know from now on to call and ask if a place has a dress code before booking, because you cant always take what a website says at face value.

Raj Dixit, Executive Chef at Michael Mina Las Vegas, has worked in a number of top kitchens across the country. In his role, he works in partnership with Chef Michael Mina to elevate and innovate the eponymous restaurant. Dixit presents food centered on Minas philosophy of bold, balanced flavors, but also draws upon his passion for global flavors and influences.
A longstanding member of the MINA family, Dixit was most recently at the helm of Chef Minas Michelin-starred restaurant, Michael Mina San Francisco garnering numerous accolades and a rare four stars by San Francisco Chronicles Restaurant Critic Michael Bauer. Prior to that, he was the Executive Chef of MINA Group Restaurant Stonehill Tavern at the St. Regis Monarch Beach. Dixit graduated from The Culinary Institute of America and worked at The Ryland Inn under the direction of Chef Craig Shelton. Shelton was known for making the farm-to-table concept a nationwide movement, and taught Dixit a great deal about cooking with farm fresh ingredients. The experience with Chef Shelton lead him to become the opening chef for Dennis Foy, and then chef de cuisine for restaurateur David Bouley, while opening his New Bouley Restaurant in New York City. He oversaw all operations for the 100-seat restaurant, and garnered three stars from The New York Times, in addition to receiving two Michelin stars.
