How To Order A Philly Cheesesteak

Its not as simple as just ordering a cheesesteak. Let me explain how you should order it so that you dont come across as an amateur.

First, you will need to decide what type of cheesesteak you would like to have. You can choose your cheese and also whether or not you want onions. We decided we should try onions on the cheesesteak.

For cheese, I wasnt sure the best cheese for a cheesesteak. We ended up choosing cheese whiz, a processed American cheese spread, since I think that is the traditional Philly cheesesteak. If you prefer, you could also have regular American cheese or provolone. They also make cheesesteaks without cheese, but is that really a cheesesteak?

Ok, so now you know what you want to order. From what I read, I thought they were very particular about how you order your cheesesteak. You are supposed to say which cheese you want and then if you want your cheesesteak wit or witout onions.

I think I should have said, I want a cheesesteak whiz wit. I was worried I would get yelled at for not ordering it correctly. Lucky for me, that didnt happen and I still got my cheesesteaks even though I dont think I ordered the right way!

Yes, there are other sandwiches on the menu at both Pats and Genos, but if this is your first time, shouldnt you try the sandwiches that made them famous? If you are extra hungry, you may want to try the cheese fries though.

Opening Hours For Pats & Genos

Pats and Genos are both open 24 hours 7 days a week.

Due to social distancing guidelines, they are now only open for take-out or online deliveries. Currently, you cannot eat at the tables or counters.

How To Get To Pats And Genos

Pats and Genos are located caddy-corner from each other close to the Italian Market in Philadelphia. You can take the bus line that goes along 9th street to get there or it is about a 10-minute walk from the Broad and Federal Street subway stop.

We took an uber from the historical area since we were short on time and it costs us about $7. If you are driving, there are several parking lots you can use.

Note: While you are in the neighborhood, its worth visiting the Italian Market too. Its a great place to experience Americas diversity.

One of the four suspects in the deadly beating at the iconic South Philadelphia cheesesteak shop Pats King of Steaks has turned himself in to police, sources confirm to Action News.

There is no word yet on his identity or what charges he may face, as homicide investigators need to interview him.

The development late Sunday night came hours after police announced arrest warrants for two other suspects in the deadly attack.

But those men are not yet in custody.

The Philadelphia Police Department has obtained arrest warrants for 34-year-old Osvaldo Willie Pedraza and 32-year-old Victor Pedraza.

This Philly staple has been beloved by cheesesteak fans since 1930 and since 1976 has been a highlight for hungry Rocky fans.

A Parking Argument Sparked The Fatal Shooting Outside Pats King Of Steaks In July Witnesses Say

Paul C. Burkert was held for trial on counts including murder after a preliminary hearing Monday, at which witnesses said an otherwise-routine dispute devolved into a fight and then a shooting.

The events that led to David Padros shooting death outside Pats King of Steaks in July began when he bumped his car door into a van parked outside the iconic South Philadelphia cheesesteak shop, witnesses testified in court Monday.

In the moments that followed, they said, an argument over that seemingly trivial act devolved into a brawl and ultimately a shooting, with Paul C. Burkert firing a shot into Padros chest after he broke free from Padros headlock.

The entire incident lasted just minutes, but cost Padro his life and left Burkert and his girlfriend charged with murder.

Following a preliminary hearing Monday, at which witnesses recounted the incident and video was shown depicting it, Burkert, 36, of Reading, was held for trial on all counts, including first-degree murder and illegally possessing a firearm.

Meanwhile, prosecutors agreed to pursue a lesser charge against his girlfriend, Jamie Frick, 36, of Newmanstown, who the video showed had participated in the brawl. She faces a third-degree murder charge and, after waiving her preliminary hearing, is now eligible for bail.

But the witnesses who testified Monday, including a friend of Padros and a bystander, said the parking dispute was the catalyst.

Pat’s King of Steaks® was founded by Pat Olivieri in 1930. Pat had a modest hot-dog stand at the base of the famous Italian Market in South Philadelphia.One day he decided to have something quite different for lunch, so he sent for some chopped meat from the butcher shop.
