Steakhouses In Kansas City

Kansas City is not lacking when it comes to steakhouse options. Its hard to say which is better than the other, or which steakhouse in Kansas City is the best. Each is great in its own way, and each customer has unique preferences.

To help you find what youre looking for, well break it down by area of the city, moving from north to south.

The Northland:

  • Hereford House: One of the oldest steakhouses in Kansas City, Mo., Hereford House has been around for more than 50 years at one of its several locations across the metro area.
  • 37 Steak: Youll find 37 Steak just north of the river inside Harrahs NKC casino.

Downtown:

South Kansas City:

Why Exclude Two Kc Steakhouses

Kansas City Steak Co. (4) 18

I didnt include Gordon Ramsays steakhousean anchor restaurant in Harrahs Casino. We excluded it from our recommendation list for three reasons its not a Kansas City favorite its certainly not a locally owned favorite its pricey as hell.

In fact, Jane Zelazny Belz of KC Restaurants Uncensored posted a favorable online review of the food, but her lack of motivation to return because of the $400 check and less than incredible ambiance and poorly dressed clientele.

I also didnt include my favorite steak to order in Kansas City Garozzos steak modiga. Why? Even though the steak modiga melts in your mouth and makes you crave another birthday celebration, Garozzos is an Italian, not steak, restaurant. Still, you must go enjoy two four-ounce tenderloin medallions sauteed in white wine and lemon butter sauce with mushrooms for just $37.

You can cut the steak with a butter knife. Prego.

Steakhouses Serving The Best Beef In Kc

Eat Drink Dive> Food

KC steakhouses are to the Midwest what bourbon distilleries are to Kentucky. Prepare to be very satisfied with the steaks served at these 10 award-winning steakhouses.

You cant purchase the beef youll enjoy at these steakhouses at grocery stores or butcher shops because Midwest suppliers reserve only their best beef for wholesalers who serve high-end steakhouses like those listed below.

The beef you eat in steakhouses is much thicker and aged for longer than most retail beef, butchered on-premises, and at volcanic temperatures that you wont be able to muster at home.

Fareway Meat Market is Kansas Citys go-to meat market if you want to grill a juicy steak at home. According to its owner Nick Casey it sells 5,000 pounds of meat a week, all sourced from Midwest Best Beef or Greater Omaha.

Our top-selling beef cuts by far are our filets, says Casey.

Casey recommends visiting Hereford House, Capital Grille, or Stock Hill for a superb steak while in Kansas City.

Food Critics: The Best Steaks In Kansas City In 2018

It’s been a long time since Kansas City was a Cowtown, but the city’s rich history as a meat-industry hub has bestowed us with an equally rich present as a meat-lover’s heaven.

At the end of a year that saw new owners re-open the Golden Ox and relocation of the venerable Plaza III steakhouse from the Country Club Plaza to Overland Park, Central Standard‘s food critics took stock of our steak situation.

Their recommendations:

  • Rye Prime USDA cuts of beef, pork and lamb are wood-fired, and dinners on Sunday steak night include soup or salad, one side and a slice of pie.
  • Golden Ox They’re serving quality steaks and sides at reasonable prices.
  • Fox and Pearl The ribeye here is not to be missed .
  • The Rieger Make a reservation the next time the Rieger has a beefsteak event. Its a communal feast where the beef and Schlitz flow throughout the evening.
  • Corvino Supper Club and Tasting Room The wagyu beef has higher levels of fat, but melts in your mouth.
  • Room 39 Steak frites here are done right: a grilled and cooked-to-order hanger steak with crispy fries.

What Steak Should I Order

Kansas City Steak Co (8) 8-oz Sirloin Steaks on QVC

Here is a short description of the four most popular cuts of beef so you can order like a cowboy your next time out.

Ribeye: A boneless cut from the eye of the prime rib with excellent marbling and a one-quarter- to a three-quarter-inch ribbon of fat running through it. Ribeyes are usually the most flavorful steak.

New York strip : It is a dense, slightly chewy cut, it is more tender than the ribeye and has a good deal of flavor. The bone-in version is sometimes called a Kansas City strip.

Filet mignon or tenderloin: The most tender, least marbled, and mildest flavored steak.

T-bone or porterhouse: A T-bone offers the filet on one side of the bone and the New York strip on the other. In the case of a Porterhouse, the filet portion must be at least two by two inches.

Jess And Jim’s Steak House

Jess and Jim’s Steak House is a steakhouse in Kansas City, Missouri. The restaurant was founded in 1934 by Jess and Jim Looney. Drink Pairing Tips For Steak

  • The perfect complement to pork

When having pork, experts suggest you pair it with a glass of Pinot Noir, a popular red wine.

  • Pair grilled turkey burger with Rosé

For an elevated experience, pair your grilled turkey burger with Rosé. This combination works particularly well because this pink winebattles the grilled flavours.

  • Zinfandel and beef burger

If your food palns include Barbeque, then you should consider helping it along with some red wine. We find that a Zinfandel, with its hits of spice tones, serves as the best pairing to the dish.

Different Ways To Prepare Steak

Ribeye, sirloin, filet mignon there are so many different ways to enjoy a meal at a steakhouse in Kansas City. Steak is a dish that almost every culture has some claim to. In one way or another, it has been enjoyed around the world for centuries. Wed like to think, however, that we really perfected the culinary tradition of steak in America, especially in Kansas City steakhouses.

These are some of the most common methods of preparation youll find at KC steakhouses:

  • Grilled: This is the most popular way of cooking steaks in America. Typically the cook will use either a gas or charcoal grill paired with simple seasoning like salt and pepper. Grilled steak doesnt take long, and it brings out the juiciness in a quality cut.
  • Wood-Fired: The grills cousin, wood-fired steaks are becoming more common, especially in steakhouses in Kansas City. Instead of using a gas or charcoal grill, the steak is placed directly over an open flame. The natural smokiness from the wood cooks into the steak, creating a rich, delicious slab.
  • Pan-Fried Butter Steak: This culinary technique uses a cast-iron skillet to cook the steak. The skillet is heated up and filled with a generous helping of butter, garlic and chives. After the mixture is simmering, a slated steak is added to the pan. The meat immediately soaks up the rich flavors of the garlic butter, and the end result is mouthwatering.
