2 Tbsp flour


  • 1. Brown ground beef and pour off fat. Add the can of french onion soup. Add flour to thicken. If you need to, you can add or subtract the amount of flour to get the consistency you like. It should be thick enough to stay on a bun and not run off. Serve on toasted hamburger buns.

Salisbury steak is one of my childhood favorites. I remember eating it as the entre of a tv dinner. If I liked it then, I know that I will really enjoy the homemade version a lot better. This is comfort food that the entire family will love. When making this, I would use lean ground beef, lite sour cream, and fresh, sliced mushrooms in the gravy.

    Walking out to the car yesterday morning, my son commented that the air smelled like spring. And it did, the sun was starting to make its debut, the weather was balmy, it was one of those rare spring-like November mornings. By the time I was driving him home from school that afternoon, it was sleeting. Welcome to the Midwest

    When the weather throws those types of curveballs, the only things I can think about are warm blankets, steaming cups of tea, and comfort food. And while warm soups are often my go-tos on days like these, some days call for something a little more hearty.

    Crockpot Cube Steak And Gravy Recipe Directions:

    Spray your crockpot with a nonstick spray.

    On a plate layout, your cube steak and pepper and very lightly salt if you want. I went easy on the salt since the french onion soup mix and the gravy would have salt in them.

    *You could salt these and cover them in flour and lightly brown in a frying pan if you want to but I love to put things in my crockpot and just let it cook. I opted not to do that step but it could add some flavor to your steaks*

    Now I make my broth with Better Than Boullion Beef base. I made up two cups in a smaller Pyrex measuring cup. Now, I love my Pyrex measuring cups, I used my 8 cup Pyrex to mix everything together.

    In a large bowl, the large Pyrex measuring bowl combines the beef broth, cream of mushroom soup, Au Ju gravy mix, and french onion soup mix all together.

    Turn your crockpot on low and lay your steaks out on the bottom. I did make this in my new 8 quart Crock-Pot and was the first time I had used it. I do have to say I miss my old trusty but when the lid shattered it was a sad day.

    Pour your mixture over the steaks and cover.

    Cook on low for at least four hours. I did stir mine a couple of times once the steak had cooked to allow the gravy mixture to completely cover the steaks.

    Now I used my Pampered Chef Mix N Chop to break up the meat into the gravy. My kids thought it was ground beef so there were no complaints and they ate all their dinner!

    • Heat oil in a skillet over med/high heat.
    • Put flour, salt and pepper in a zip lock bag and mix well. Add the cube steaks one at a time, close bag, and shake to coat in flour.
    • Add steaks to hot oil and brown on each side. Transfer steaks to the slow cooker.
    • Add sliced onion rings and 2 cups of water to the crockpot as well.
    • Cook on low setting for 8 hours.
    • Mix together gravy mix, onion soup mix and the cream of mushroom soup with the last 1 cup of water. Add this to the slow cooker and mix gently so you do not tear up the steaks.
