Pat’s King Of Steaks Philadelphia Cheese Steak

How the Original Philly Cheesesteak Is Made at Philadelphia Legend Pat’s King of Steaks

Provided by Food Network

6 tablespoons Soya bean oil
1 large onion, sliced
24 ounces sliced rib eye or eye roll steak
Cheese American or Provolone
4 crusty Italian Rolls
Sweet green and red peppers, sauteed in oil
Mushrooms sauteed in oil
Ketchup

Steps:

  • Heat an iron skillet or a non-stick pan over medium heat and add 3 tablespoons of oil to the pan and saute the onions to desired doneness. Remove the onions and add the remaining oil and saute the slices of meat quickly on both sides. Melt the cheez whiz in a double boiler or in the microwave. Place 8 ounces of the meat into the rolls, add onions, and pour the store-processed cheese over top. Garnish with sweet peppers, mushrooms, ketchup.
  • Put on the theme song to the first Rocky movie and enjoy.

I ate here mainly because it claims to be the originator of the cheesesteak and was featured in “Rocky.” Both points make it a fun spot, but the cheesesteak itself was just average. The bread was good, but the provolone was hardly melted and the steak could have been better seasoned. Alright if you enjoy the nostalgia. Cash only.

24 ounce thin sliced rib eye or eye roll steak – crave brand…if not available use whatever good quality label is available in your area
6 tablespoon soy bean oil
1 jar cheez whiz®
4 – crusty italian rolls
1 large spanish onion cut into large dice
– optional–sweet green and red peppers sautéed in oil
– optional–mushrooms sautéed in oil

Steps:

  • Melt the Cheez Whiz® in a double boiler or in the microwave and keep warm until ready to use
  • Heat an iron skillet or a non stick pan over medium heat
  • Add 3 tablespoons of oil to the pan and sauté the onions to desired doneness
  • Remove the onions
  • Add the remaining oil and sauté the slices of meat quickly on both sides
  • Return onions to pan and heat all ingredients through.
  • spread Whiz on rolls. If you like extra cheese drizzle on top of steak once added to the roll, but you MUST spread the whiz on the roll to ensure you get a bite of cheese with every bite of meat.
  • divide meat mixture between rolls
  • Put on the theme song to the first Rocky movie and enjoy!
  • NOTE–If you decide to use the peppers and mushrooms, add them all back to the meat to heat through prior to plating.
