In 1979 their eldest son, Dave and his wife Barb, purchased the family restaurant and converted the garage and parking spaces into the third dining room we call the”Tea Room”, paying homage to the Orange Tea Room that was in this location prior to 1957. Geoff and I purchased The Steak House from my parents in 2005 to become the third generation to have the honor to welcome you and your friends and family to “our house”. Why Is It Called Ruths Chris
When a kitchen fire destroyed Chris Steak House in 1976, Ruth was forced to relocate the restaurant to stay in business. But the Chris Steak House name wasn’t allowed to move with it. So, with little time and a mischievous smile, Ruth added her own name to the sign, making it Ruths Chris Steak House. And it workedthat tongue-twister of a name was born.

It All Started In New Orleans
In 1965, Ruth Fertel, a single mom looking for an opportunity, saw a steak house for sale in the classifieds. She didn’t know much about restaurants or steak, but she took a chance and mortgaged her home to buy Chris Steak House. Ruth mastered all the ins and outs herself, from butchering and broiling steak perfectly to serving guests. From the opening day, the special sizzle she created was a huge local success. And 50 years later, that tradition continues.

Great food and atmosphere. Friendly staff and we had a really good time. Seating was spacious we had plenty of room for the nine of us, plus it wasn’t so loud inside that we couldn’t hear each other. Everybody rated the food very well, and while it wasn’t the best steak I’ve ever had, it was definitely up there and worth the money. I’ve had more expensive steaks that were of the same quality, and the only steaks I’ve had that are better were twice the price. Overall I think the steaks were a great price for what you get, and I’d recommend this location for anyone looking for a fine steakhouse that has excellent food at a reasonable price.

Founded By The Kreis Family In 1948
The establishment began as a small roadhouse restaurant in the countryside. Mrs. Kreis home cooking soon became the favorite among those traveling along Highway 67. The Kreis family operated Kreis’ until their retirement in the 1960s.
They offered to lease Kreis’ to Jack Kane, their country club manager, while retaining ownership. He successfully ran and enhanced the business, introducting the enormous portion of Prime Rib of Beef, a signature dish which the restaurant still prides itself on.
Kreis’ served as a comfortable and familiar gathering place. The consistency and quality of Kreis ensured generations of loyal clientele. Helen Kane remained operator until the Kreis family decided to sell the business and property to the Tompras brothers in 1983.
The combination of Byrons expertise and knowledge of the food industry and Tykes managerial skills were the keys to Kreis success. In 1984, a fire burned a large portion of the restaurant. Kreis’ used this opportunity to rebuild, expand, and bring the kitchen up to the restaurant level. This accommodated the booming business Kreis’ was experiencing.
Since 1990, Byrons two children, George Tompras and Renee Tompras Bogdanos have operated Kreis’, expanding the menu to keep pace with modern demands while adhering to the tradition for quality, consistency, service, and innovation that made Kreis famous.

Update: Our Brooklyn location is now open for both indoor and outdoor dining. Please pay close attention to the “indoor” and “outdoor” indicators when making a reservation. In accordance with NYC’s vaccine mandate, as of August 16, all indoor diners must be able to show proof of at least one dose of vaccine along with a valid photo ID. Almost since statehood, Cattlemens Café has opened its doors to hungry cowboys, ranchers and cattle haulers. Cattlemen’s flourished, and as one of the few places that stayed open after sundown became known for its colorful clientele and home-brewed beverages throughout prohibition. In fact, Cattlemens Double Deuce brand beer of today is a throwback to the prohibition days, when handcrafted was the only option. Double Deuce beer is made for us by another Oklahoma pioneer family from Krebs. Today Krebs Brewing, began at Pete’s Place by the Prichard family. It now proudly brews beers for world wide enjoyment under the Praire Artisan Ales brand! In 1945, Cattlemens was owned by Hank Fry, a gambler of sorts. Late one night in a smoke-filled room at the old Biltmore Hotel in downtown Oklahoma City, Fry was running out of luck and money. In an act of desperation, Fry wagered Cattlemens Steakhouse against the life savings of Gene Wade that he could roll a hard Six . With that one roll of the dice, Gene Wade became a restaurateur! The 33 brand still hangs on the west wall of Cattlemens Hereford Room as a symbol of Wades good fortune. Today, Cattlemens continues to improve with age, and has become an Oklahoma City landmark. Cattlemens flavorful steaks and colorful history continue to draw new fans from movie stars to rodeo greats to presidents.
