Kansas City Steak Company Review: Are These Steaks Worth It?ð¥©

Because Kobe beef exemplifies everything that makes Wagyu better! It is considered the most abundantly marbled beef in the world. To be labelled Kobe, cattle must meet stringent standards upon slaughter. Due to these stringent standards, only 3,000 head of cattle qualify as authentic Kobe cattle each year.

About Kansas City Steak Company

They first started out in 1932 as a family-owned butcher shop called S& S Meat Company.

They ended up growing in popularity and becoming a meat supplier for big retail businesses such as Outback Steaks and Carrabbas.

In 1984 they shifted focus and decided to venture into the mail order steak business, something that Omaha Steaks pioneered years prior. What eventually launched their mail order business was a deal with QVC to promote their products.

Since then, they have partnered with National Beef, who is the meat supplier for their Kansas City Steak Company online business. This means if you purchase from their online store, while the brand name is Kansas City Steak Company, the meat youre getting is actually from National Beef.

Unfortunately prime beef is only available in small quantities to grocers like Wegmans or Whole Foods Market due to low demand due to its premium price. But the best nationwide grocer for steaks is Whole Foods.

Is It Cheaper To Buy Meat From A Butcher Or Supermarket

Cost. Last of all, buying meat from the butcher can be just as affordable as buying from the grocery store. Your butcher might be able to suggest alternative cuts of meat that can save you money without sacrificing flavor. And with higher quality overall, butcher meat lets you get more bang for your buck.

How Long Does Omaha Steaks Foods Stay Good In Their Packaging

Weve held on to frozen Omaha Steaks meat for over 3 months since purchasing it and havent had any issues cooking it after. Its important to note that the meat has to stay frozen through this whole time, since it can spoil thawing and being refrozen. Omaha Steaks says that their meats are vacuum sealed to last for up to three months in a properly working freezer.

Why Are Ribeyes So Expensive

If youve ever wondered why that rib-eye steak or beef tenderloin was so expensive, you probably assumed it was because the most desirable cuts of meat naturally cost more. Its just an accident of bovine evolution and anatomy that the part of a steer that provides those tender cuts is relatively small.

Does One Have Better Customer Support

What is a Bone In Kansas City Strip? – Know Your Steaks with Mr. Steak

From our research, the customer service support for both of these mail order steak product companies may be way above average. They both have received an A+ rating from the BBB.

They both offer a satisfaction guarantee more than anything else, so if anything is not to your liking, you can call them for a refund or exchange. We found it slightly more difficult to get a hold of a customer rep at Omaha Steaks when we sent a message.

Oz Kansas City Strip Steaks

These were the steaks that we made in our review video above. You can see that they look fairly similar to the strip steaks youd find in your local grocery store. When it came to cooking them, we followed the instructions in the booklet they send along with the food but it ended up leading to them coming out pretty overcooked. While they still had some flavor, they were very tough to eat.

What Is The Difference Between New York Steak And Ribeye

The main difference between a ribeye and a NY strip is that the ribeye has more internal marbling or fat. The New York Strip has a thick band of fat running down one side that you cant really eat. The Ribeye is a great choice if you are looking for a tender steak with plenty of flavor and a buttery smooth texture.

The Types Of Food Omaha Steaks Offers

Kansas City Steak Review (2020 Upd) Everything You Must Know

While steaks are in their name, Omaha Steaks offers way more than just steak. In fact, they offer nearly every cut of beef, chicken, turkey, and pork imaginable. But thats just a portion of the foods they offer. They also now offer seafood, pastas, sides, desserts, and even wine.

To give you an idea of the immense variety they offer, here are some of their most popular foods they sell from each category:

Steaks

  • Brussels sprouts with bacon and shallots
  • Roasted mixed vegetables
  • Toffee cake
  • Pumpkin pie

The examples above are really just the tip of the iceberg. In fact, I found one of the hardest parts of ordering to be deciding what to get.

While they offer a lot of meats that you cook, a good portion of the items they offer are premade foods .

This enormous variety, coupled with their premade options makes Omaha Steaks a great option for special occasions where you may need to feed a lot of people a nice dinner but you dont want to have to spend hours cooking everything. Emily and I have considered using Omaha Steaks for when we host future family holidays.

Kansas City Steak Company Review: How Good Is This Meat Delivery Company

Kansas City Steak Company Review

Product Name: Kansas City Steak Company

  • Food Box HQ Rating

Bottom Line

Kansas City Steaks was a bit of a letdown. We paid close to $90 for 4 8oz steaks that were just okay. The funny part was the desserts ended up being our favorite item that we ordered from a steak company.

Pros

They offer a ton of varietyfrom meats to sides to desserts.

Some foods were very delicious .

They have a great money back guarantee. If youre unhappy, you can contact them and they will refund your money or replace the items youre unhappy with.

Cons

It was one of the most expensive meat delivery companies weve ordered from.

The ordering process was a pain and almost led to me overpaying for our food.

The cooking instructions were not that clear.

The packaging could be better.

The flavor of the steaks and some sides could have been better.

These days there are more meat delivery services to choose from than ever before. Having tried dozens of them over the years, I know from experience that not every single one is worth your time or money.

When I stumbled upon Kansas City Steak Company after we reviewed Omaha Steaks, I was intrigued. Not only do they offer a ton of different cuts of meat, they also have a variety of premade meals.

While they have the quantity, do they have the quality to match the high prices theyre charging? We decided to order a box for ourselves to see!

Where Is A Ny Strip Steak Located

Its located in the middle of the cow on the top part of the short loin . The longissimus dorsi is a little used muscle resulting in a very tender cut of meat. The Ribeye cut also comes from this muscle, though that is the part closer to the neck and rib cage. The difference in location means that the ribeye will have marbling throughout the cut while a NY strip will usually instead have a thick rim of fat.

WHICH IS BETTER BONE IN OR BONELESS NY STRIP?

While this cut is usually served boneless, bone in is the better option. The bone helps to insulate and keep the juices inside the steak. And it also allows the meat closer to the bone to cook slower. So there is less of a risk of over-cooking your steak. Though the farther the meat is from the bone the faster it will cook.

WHAT RECIPES WORK WELL WITH THIS CUT?

Make sure to bring your steaks to room temperature before cooking! You can either grill or pan fry and in both cases cover liberally with oil and spices and cook 4 to 5 minutes per side. If you want to have some fun and are pan frying, add some additional ingredients for more flavor. To see how to grill this cut indoors click here, or to pan fry click here!

Where Does Kansas City Steaks Source Their Meats

All of the food that Kansas City Steaks sells comes from National Beef, which has locations throughout Kansas. The beef comes from U.S. Premium Beef, with ranchers across 37 different states. Its not clear whether the cattle the steaks come from are actually from Kansas City or even Kansas.

On the Kansas City Steak Company website, they dont make it clear where any of the other meat comes from. On their All About Steak page, they are pretty vague about the source of their meat, only stating they source from tight cattle supply from producers with known and approved management methods.

Submitted Customer Experiences

We tried the Sirloin and the Porterhouse steaks. The flavor was excellent on both but they we so very thin. It was extremely difficult to barbeque them a true medium rare to rare. We did notify them of this issue. We are extremely pleased with their response. They explained why the steaks were cut that way. Also, they stated the the filets are the only cut of meat that are much thicker. They also suggested that they send us Custom Filets or a 50% discount on our order. We chose the filets. They are truly awesome. Thank you so much for your incredible customer service.Kansas City Steaks was horrible. Even after I complained customer service suggested I should have ordered a more “premium” cut. spent over $300 for gristle porterhouse and 1/2 thick ribeyes. in my opinion it was like ordering “minute steaks” in the 60″s.I purchased a 5 to 5.5 lb prime rib roast. Where Does Omaha Steaks Source Their Meat

Unfortunately, Omaha Steaks does not make it clear exactly where they source their meats from. Even in their blog article here where they talk about why their beef is better, they dont exactly mention where it comes from. They speak very vaguely about how they select the beef and where it comes from. All of this is a bit discerning considering that Omaha Steaks markets themselves as high-quality meat but fail to mention what makes them high-quality.

Comparing Omaha Steak & Butcherbox Selection

At first glance, it would seem that Omaha Steaks is the winner when it comes to meat in a box option and different small or big cuts. Indeed they have plenty more to choose from.

Upon closer inspection, I found that the products of Omaha Steaks weren’t always a good option for the carnivore diet. Many of the meats that Omaha Steaks sells are pre-seasoned and come with non-carnivore diet sides.

The options include chicken, beef, and pork. You may save time in seasoning before cooking, but even small condiments are not recommended for carnivore dieters.

With ButcherBox, you are getting the best grass-fed and grass-finished beef, heritage breed pork, and free-range organic chicken strictly. Every meat they use is no doubt hand-picked and of good quality. It’s no-nonsense, and I also don’t have to worry about their meats messing with my diet.

What To Know About Cooking

One of the big issues Emily and I ran into with Kansas City Steak Company was the cooking process. They give you a booklet that has all of the information needed to make everything from cooking your steaks to heating up the premade dishes.

When we went to cook the steak, we followed the directions outlined in the booklet since we wanted to make sure we were doing everything correctly so they would come out as delicious as possible.

Unfortunately, the was that the booklet lays out the steps, you have to jump between different pages for different steps. For example, on page 10 it tells us the partial instructions for cooking the steak on a skillet. Then you have to jump to page 12 to see how long you need to cook the steak. But on page 12, they have different cooking instructions at the top of the page.

But the most irritating part was that some of the steps dont have spacing between the words. I found it to be pretty tough to actually follow the directions properly because of this.

Cooking with Omaha Steaks: The Strip

During our review, we found that the taste quality of Omaha Steaks was definitely sub-par compared to Kansas City Steaks Company. The steak was slightly less marbled than what we usually had, but it wasnt that bad as we still got the value back for the four-ounce sirloin and ribeye we bought as gifts by delivery.

How Do You Cook Omaha Steaks Foods

Unlike traditional meal kits, Omaha Steaks doesnt give you specific recipes to follow with their uncooked foods. And since the bulk of what they sell are meats, its important to understand how to best cook them or you could mess up the flavor by over or undercooking. Luckily, Omaha Steaks has a decent cooking chart here that explains the meat cooking process for grills , pans, ovens, and even air frying.

Which Is Better Ribeye Or Filet Mignon

A simplified rule to remember is: the ribeye is perfect for those who prefer flavor, and the filet mignon is the better choice for those who prefer texture. Ribeye has long been known to steak lovers as the epitome of steak flavor. This cut of meat comes from the ribs of the animal, between the loin and shoulder.

Key Difference Between Kansas City Steaks & Omaha Steaks

The main difference between the two delivery services is in their sourcing practices. Kansas City Steak Company sources 100% grass-fed beef for steaks, while Omaha Steaks finishes their cattle on grain for years.

The Kansas City Steak Company also appears to have USDA Prime, while Omaha Steaks labels their meat cut deals as agency-inspected. Both serve other items such as pork, ham, seafood, plus free-range chicken, based on reviews of Omaha Steaks.

They sure seem to have more game options, including bison and veal cut.

We had even heard rumors that Kansas City steaks were expensive. Still, when we tried out some popular ribeyes and American-style filet mignons a day ago, Omaha Steaks’ deals ended up being more costly in the cart, and it’s something that we’re not used to.

Omaha Steaks Vs Chicago Steak Company

Omaha Steaks Review

We would not say everybody, but there are certainly a lot of people in the world who love steaks. The tasty, juicy meats are very pleasant to savor. If you prefer things to be simple and straightforward, you certainly value the ready-to-cook steaks products available for order via online, such as the Omaha Steaks and the Chicago Steak Company products. These steaks are very convenient they are already cut and seasoned properly so that you only need to cook them without having to add anything else. Omaha Steaks are preferred by many because of the more affordable price. On the other hand, the Chicago Steak Company products are popular for the great taste and texture. Below, you can read the comparison between Omaha Steaks and Chicago Steak Company.

If we search for the reviews of the products, we can find that the Omaha Steaks receive more mixed reviews whereas the Chicago Steak Company generally has more positive reviews. The thing about the Omaha Steaks is that many people are disappointed by the poor quality. The meats are rather small and thin, and the flavor does not stand out very much. In addition, the meats have some fats. The fats can enhance the flavor, but are not healthy if consumed too much. Some people also dont like the chewy texture. But there are also consumers who praised the Omaha Steaks for the fine taste and good packaging. The delivery is great, too, as it usually arrives on time.
